My 2 cents: Behringer's Pro-800 delivers that typical 80s vintage sound to a studio but offers enough to create exciting sounds for contemporary music. In depth sound design is a bit limited but that's something you have to deal with in most of the vintage synths, too. And to be fair, we are talking about a 400 € / $ polysynth with 8 voices. Build quality is ok, although I'm not a big fan of those foil push buttons. Here are some downsides that have been or might be resolved in future updates: - slow envelopes are reeeeeally slow. UPDATE: This issue has been resolved with the latest firmware upgrade 1.26 and the envelopes are way snappier, now. - Patch organization and editing with the Synthtribe App don't work, yet. But there is a free patch editor online that works - Mono Out. Yes, it's the same with many vintage synths and even the super heavy priced Deckard's dream is only mono. But I'd really liked to see a stereo out with variable panorama settings per voice. TLDR: Fantastic poly analogue on a budget and if you don't mind the flaws (or hoping for an update), go for it! ▶ Purchase Link Behringer Pro-800* (EU / Thomann): www.thomann.de/intl/behringer_pro_800.htm?offid=1&affid=397 ▶ Purchase Link Behringer Pro-800* (Sweetwater): sweetwater.sjv.io/anJooM

Behringer was asking if users wanted faster envelopes, they said this could be fixed in a new firmware.
@limbicbits Жыл бұрын
@@Donetur That would be fantastic but as companies are promising a lot without delivering nowadays, I'm generally very sceptical in that regard. But that's fine - if the PRO-800 is behaving like the original, then maybe it's just not for me. I might get it later, once this has been fixed.

you are creatively bankrupt. just give up and save your parents the embarrassment. Lovely video as per usual. How do you find this compared to the Nymphes? I find the sound to hit within the same spot to my ears. Warm and vintage. The UI of the Nymphes looks daunting compared to this. Can you weigh in on these considerations?
@limbicbits Жыл бұрын
It's been a while since I've been using the Nymphes. I'd tend to say that I liked its sound better than the PRO-800's but that's just my taste. I find the PRO-800 to be a bit more on the brassy side (typical for the prophet) which is something I've always been struggling with. But if you're into that sound, perfect! With the UI you've mentioned an important point as there are a lot of functions hidden in the Nymphes. But same here: You have to use combos to get access to a lot of hidden parameters (LFO wave, speed, envelope character etc). That's fine and it's solved a bit better on the PRO-800 than on the Nymphes as the latter lacks a display what makes things a bit complicated, sometimes. On the other hand, with the Nymphes you get BPM-syncable LFOs, two LFOs instead of one and other features that make Nymphes a bit more useful in modern setups.
@Jegkedermigmega Жыл бұрын
@@limbicbits Thank you so, so much for the thorough response. You hit the nail on it's head in terms of considerations. Your work is - as always - stellar :) Again: thanks.

If you don't use it, then let it go. Being surrounded by too many things is just distraction, imo. The only thing is that the PRO-800 wouldn't be a good replacement for the Pro-1 as that one optimised for basses and leads whereas the PRO-800 shines when it comes to pads.

It sounds great, but the Prophet sound is available elsewhere too for not crazy money. So I'll wait on the others to be released. I think I'm still hanging on for the Oberheims; seemingly like everyone else. But sonically, it's a great teaser of what's to come with the other products in the pipeline and the price is impressively affordable. An affordable portable desktop character synth like a SEM, Synthi or Music Easel would be awesome. I think Behringer might be slightly missing the point with some of these clones. In the sense that the aren't much like the original form factor. They're missing some physical magic. Like, the Minimoog, or Prophets or Junos are iconic complete instruments that people love. People use them to write and perform on. A module is nice, but it doesn't scratch that itch for the complete instrument. They could spend some money on form-factor, aesthetics and playability maybe in some higher-end options. I'd like it if they developed their own top quality keybed and offered all of these in keyboard options, that reflect the original too. Like they did get right with the Poly D, except that it deserves a better keybed. Maybe they could pimp them up with a poly-aftertouch+ribbon option on the higher-end Oberheim polys to add a touch of higher quality. At these point, with all the great softsynth emulations, I'd rather one high quality 1k+ synth that I can really dig into, than a room full of modules that leave me feeling somewhat empty. For example, I liked the Model D's sound, but I got rid of it and don't miss it. Whereas my Moog Grandmother, I really love and can centre my modular around it. Lastly, I think the pure analog clone thing is a bit overdone now. Be more interested if they move on to some of the iconic hybrid synths, Prophet VS, PPG Wave. Or continue the interesting Deep Mind and develop their own frankenstein hybrid Prophet VS/Wave like a Groove Synthesis Third Wave that ordinary people can afford.

To use this professionally, add the price of a great feeling, full size midi controller, and an FX unit. You’ll be close to the pice of a Sequential Take 5, which sounds way better!😮
@allkeyspro6606 Жыл бұрын
Akai MPK 249 $469, Strymon Bluesky $379 Pro 800. $399. Total is $1247. Take 5 is $1499 brand new. Find a B stock, and it’s a wash. Take 5: better sound, better build quality, put it in a case, take it to a gig, bam, done! 😮😮
@limbicbits Жыл бұрын
...or use the MIDI controller that's already in your DAW-based setup, add some plugins, and save some studio real estate. Please don't get me wrong, Take 5 is a fantastic synth, but IMO also has a slightly different approach. But I've to say that a Take 5 would also need a decent effect unit as the internal effects aren't very good.
@palaHD Жыл бұрын
I have the take 5 and I am getting this for sure,the 2 pieces don’t feel at all comparable,the FX on the take 5 are rubbish so you will need to spend extra,99% of people buying this already have a keyboard they like,you are comparing $1500 to $400

Yip, I think you're right. There was a good interview on Why We Bleep with Mylar Melodies and seems the (DSI) Prophet (Rev1 and 2) has been the core of his sound. And there's a sprinkling of Odyssey (Korg version). Plus some Moog sounds (Voyager in the past, judging from his track titles, and now Matriarch). Another great producer who made great use of DSI Prophet is Steve Hauschildt. Thinks it's his main synth. Then he uses a gaggle of great fx pedals. And what I find is it does that twinkly detailed synth sound really well, and it's high end sits super nicely above the low end of a Moog. And an Odyssey is glorious in the growly, searing or vocal mids. I miss my Korg Odyssey module. Need to rebuy one to slot between Grandmother and Take 5.

@@justsayingnow You use bad purchases to defend more bad purchases, got it… so as long as people own a cell phone they should buy poorly made products from a companies selling them so cheap it’s got to be impossible to pay a fair wage. And they should buy as many as possible. We do know they all get a poor wage (Apple etc.), so what’s the difference if it’s even worse right? So yeah, I do see what you’re getting at. You realize you actually HAVE to own a phone in the modern world yeah? You’re not even employable without a contact number. Now tell me how you need a budget synth. I own an iPhone since you asked. My synths are from Sequential, Elektron and Nord. I believe in buying less and buying better but I do need a phone and when there is a phone I can buy, made from companies with the same integrity as my synths, I’ll buy that too. Now for people who don’t have the option of affording something from Moog or Sequential etc… I don’t judge them on their purchases. Actually not judging anyone on their purchases. But I don’t buy like that and your argument was bland.
