Being a bodyguard is widely regarded as a job for men, especially in Korean society. So how is it like to be a female bodyguard in Korea? We talked with Choi Seung-hui, one of the first generation female bodyguards since 1998.
Our vision is to build a lasting grassroots movement of young people from every country to report on real social and cultural issues. We believe having meaningful discussions with people with different opinions is extremely important.

@uwotm8

The reason she doesn't get paid that much is due to the abundance of bodyguards in Korea. With males being conscripted they gain military experience and so becoming a bodyguard is more common than countries where there is no conscription. South Korea is considered one of the safest countries in the world so the need for bodyguards is not very high. So, using basic economics we can see that there is high supply and low demand. Best place to be a bodyguard for high pay is a private security contractor in a hostile area, such as Iraq. High demand due to every foreign official needing security. Low supply due to the high risk of death causing people not to apply. Also, personnel will be required to have extensive military experience.

Not extinct. It was a joke and an exaggeration. But there is a real evidence to this theory. If you look at Japan's population you can see its decreasing drastically. Every man and woman who are looking to be "independent" and "successful" goes to the city and leaving the rural area. This mindset also makes these men and women marry later in their years or dont marry at all. You can actually see the difference in the population data chart between the ages in Japan. That means there will be huge set back to Japan because there just wont be enough children to grow up to make up for the economy and work force.

@@cattcatt6795 It might not be in the top 10, but Korea certainly is one of the safest countries in the world. The only things you really have to worry about here are drunks and speeding taxi drivers. Violent crime is virtually nonexistent, though of course, there are always a few cases in any country. But I see kids as young as 8~10 years old taking public transportation by themselves. People often leave their bikes next to bus stops or their phones/laptops on a table in a restaurant and it will still be there the next day.

Traditionally, males are viewed as bodyguards. But I don't see why females cannot be a bodyguard. Something that I think/wondered about... I think they would be more effective if they didn't dress so obviously like a body guard. People who might be out to do harm/potential harm would be caught off guard if there was a body guard but the body guard was not dressed like one.

@@Hzec ... which is exactly my point. My point is to make it less obvious that the person has a body guard. So if someone tries to attack or harass that person, they can quickly swoop in and do do their body guard job without the attacker/harasser realizing there was a body guard right there. If it is obvious there's a body guard, the would-be attacker/harasser might act different or try to be more sneaky about it.
