So much happened in 2023 it can hard to recount all its gaming highs and lows. But don't worry, in this video Kurt Indovina is going to walk you through what it was like to be a gamer in 2023 in what may be one of the best and worst years in gaming.
Depending on who you ask, some would say 2023 was the greatest year in games. Others, however, may say it was the worst. This was a year filled with incredible and groundbreaking games, but it was also filled with thousands of layoffs that affected the very people making those great games. It can be a lot to remember. But don't worry, Kurt paints a picture of what it was like to be a gamer in a year of many highs and incredible lows.

I appreciate shining a light on industry layoffs, but I was hoping Kurt would more directly address the layoffs at Gamespot. I’m sure his hands are tied to some extent, but I feel like there could have been some workaround, like maybe talking about the people he knew who lost their jobs and putting a human face on the problem rather than just listing numbers. I think the most important thing about 2023 is that Fromsoft and Capcom showed they can still make a game like Armored Core 6 and Exoprimal in the modern times after doing the usual stuff. While they got room for improvement, they were way better than a lot of mediocrity.

Kurt's videos are always funny and entertaining! So many good games in a single year usually means months of drought. My only gripe is : "When are we going to see brand new hardcore stealth games?" Weird that the MGS3 and Splinter Cell remakes will probably hold the torch high up. Hopefully, it will have a small butterfly effect like the RE2 remake did. Those are sorely lacking. The RE4 remake is rock solid; Alan Wake II is my GOTY. And the Dead Space remake is so good!! We'll probably never get another one, so I'm happy it exists. Nintendo giving us what is probably the best Mario yet is also worthy of praise along Tears of The Kingdom. Excellent year indeed for gamers. Worst year ever for the people who make them. Just like Hollywood, too many large companies take advantage of people's passions and juice them until the last drop. I'm exhausted by the hypocrisy of : "We're so thankful for their work." PR cliché void of integrity and respect.
