Nice! I got my associates (ADN) and about to get my BSN in less than 2 months. We are definitely one of few 21st century trail blazers in the U.S. My life consists of all women at Home, work and social life😅. The only consistent males in my life are my father and dog. Being one of the few males in Nursing school is definitely a good feeling. In many ways. 😏 Its not any easier though. Nursing is not sexist. It is a testament to any genders will power and intelligence. There are stigmas, but you always come across that one prof, classmate or colleague that reminds you why nursing is awesome! I even amaze myself with my progress. 😂 I am glad you make youtube videos to support young males in nursing. I am also 23. I never got into vlogging, but you are doing exactly what I would do, maybe better. lol. Keep up the informative and motivational posts! I am a proud Latino NYC based male RN.

As a new grad male nurse I feel I got a lot of positive prejudice through my bachelor's and training. I also feel being a man helped me secure my job in the ER straight out of school (understandably in resuscitation and code whites having some guys on the team is helpful). There are some studies that show that despite being in a mostly female profession, male nurses advance faster in rank and gain access to more ''power'' positions than female nurses. Is this something other guys in nursing have felt?

Good for you Kaynen. Unfortunately, most male RN's & LPN's are viewed as being homosexuals. However, when women attend medical school, no one assume they're lesbians. When I graduated from high school in 1973, I wanted to become a Registered Nurse. At that time, you rarely saw male nurses. Several of my female high school friends attended North Carolina Central University, North Carolina A & T, and Winston Salem State Universities School of Nursing. I didn't do well in Chemistry and Biology in high school and I knew this would prevent me from getting accepted into nursing school. I decided to major in Business Administration at Howard University later receiving a M.B.A. from Georgetown University. I spoke with a high school classmate today and she retired from the Navy as a Registered Nurse. She currently is working part-time at a hospital with newborn babies. In our conversation today, she discussed having to take her Nursing State Board exam in a few weeks good for another 2 years. We both are currently 65 years old. She stated, when she finally retire in 2 years, her military pension, social security, & retirement, her monthly salary will be over $9,000. In 2002 she earned $72,000 yearly as an RN officer in the Navy. That was a deceit salary back in 2002. Nursing is a good field for a male or female to enter into today because there is a shortage of Registered Nurses. My friend has a BSN and a MSN in nursing. You will always be able to find a job, particularly in any major metropolitan city. It is good to see Black, Puerto Rican, and Latino men enter into the field of nursing. When I had a heart attack in 2017, I was in the ICU for 3 days. One of the RN's assigned to me was a Black male. Good luck in your endeavors, Kaynen Brown.

Psychology degree and opted for the surgical technology route as I wasn't entirely sure how I would fair being out of school for so long and having had sleep apnea at the end of my B.S. studies that caused some memory issues (it has since been treated), I deemed it wise to start with a course of study that lets me get into medical academia without the financial commitments (I'm on scholarship from work so it was a minimal risk venture). I am still musing on whether to progress farther into medicine or not, I feel comfortable academically, but it is a huge time pull from other interests/commitments! Regardless, best of luck in your chosen career path!

@@sbrianrowe congrats! I'm actually planning on applying for the RN associates 2 yr program next year. Do you remember the minimum GPA they required for you to get into the program? and btw, are you planning on doing the bridge thing and get your bachelors in one more year, or are you gonna settle w/ RN?

@@JR-90 my program was based on a points system. Which included hesi score and a couple other things. You will have to look at the program you are planning to attend go on the program site and call the nursing department.

Great decision, we need more men in nursing.

It's weird because my experience as a male nurse has been extremely negative and I very much regret my decision to be a nurse. I have been driven out of one workplace after another by the hostile female establishment and now after 10 years I am unable to work in the field any longer. It's worth noting that I have never been accused of any sort of misconduct by my coworkers or patients but despite that fact I am constantly treated like some sort of potential predator. I wonder if the fact that you are physically attractive has anything to do with how well you've been received by the women in nursing.

I an currently going and received so many comments both negative and positive. I find younger people have more things negative to say and all adults are impressed. Keep grindin kings. haha
