Adrienne talking about how in the black community they discourage you from stepping outside of the box is soo refreshing. I want to do vanlife and my family is soo against it because "thats not what black people do" and its soo limiting. So thank you for acknowledging that
@thebouncingoreo3 жыл бұрын
It's so hard because our community can sometimes discourage us, tell us that that's white, or weird etc. But you only have one life, do the van life! Make it black!!
@DieAlteistwiederda3 жыл бұрын
Tell them that this might not be what black people are doing right now but someone has to start and you want to follow your dreams without restricting yourself because of your skin color. Other people already do that enough for you.
@neonglobe13823 жыл бұрын
Yes we should not limit ourselves to traditionally “black” things. I remember when I was in middle school I used to love to listen to punk and indie bands and my cousins would poke fun at me because it’s “white people music”. It kind of sucks that our community likes to tie us down and unless you check all the boxes of being a “real” black person they will distance themselves from you and not be as accepting. Sometimes I was more accepted by my white peers than my black ones because of how I acted, how I dressed, and my hobbies. We should allow our people to branch out and accept them no matter how different they are from the “traditional black person”. The only thing that makes you black are your genes and history everything else such as music or food taste or hobbies should not be defined by your race but by your own choice.

8:38 omg so relatable. I was terrified to go anywhere by myself in Japan. Luckily my boyfriend helped me once I got out of quarantine. I’ve been here SIX (6) WHOLE months and I just went to Shibuya by myself for the first time this week. (I usually only go to school and to meet up with my boyfriend by myself and that’s it😅). Still haven’t gone to a restaurant by myself (only fast food recently). I’m terrified still lol. 35:39 I don’t sleep until the sun rises too, we should be friends. Girl bars are such a wonderful little sanctuary in Japan! In Fukuoka there was one that I visited and I ended up making friends with this adorable couple. I was too nervous and not confident in my speaking ability because my "friend" at the time kept laughing whenever I tried speaking Japanese and calling it "cute" and I was like... okay then... But it's definitely a very safe space and I really appreciated having a spot like that to go to and actually feel like I belonged and fit in somewhere.

Kids will even stare at me here in Germany when I'm German myself just because of the way I dress and my hair color. Unless they are rude them looking is really just what kids do and how they learn things. I wouldn't take it too personal especially not if you are in a foreign country that is very homogenous and you look very different than every citizen there. If the kids are rude you can try to tell them off or educate them of course, not sure how accepted it is to interact with kids in that way in Japan but here in Germany it's mostly fine to "parent" strangers kids if you see them doing something they shouldn't.

The only time I spoke to a Japanese person was when i met some older women in the bathroom of the hostel I was staying at and they really wanted to talk to me but I didn't speak Japanese and they didn't speak English, ive never wanted to be able to speak it as badly as that time cause they were so nice even tho there was a language barrier. I did braids before I left the UK but they started looking straggly by the 5th day so I had to take them out, that made me self conscious cause everyone always looked so put together in tokyo.
