“We wanted to disappear.” That gave me chills. That is so insanely true. As a formerly agnostic occultist anorexic pro-polyamory goth with gender dysphoria turned Catholic mom of two, I can totally confirm this. Oh this is so so true. I am also on the spectrum and have ADHD and I’m not sure how all these things play into each other exactly but this is such a true statement. Jen Fulwiler is my spirit animal is basically what I’m saying

As a middle school teacher… (and new mama)! I completely agree with your parenting philosophy (authoritative as opposed to authoritarian) and your thoughts connecting the the trends of young girls thru the decades. Connect before you correct is the best case.

I am always thrilled and amazed when our sons, now 20 and 22, want to "hang out" with us! Even when they were in High School, they would sit around the campfire with us and just "chat". Some of the things they were open about surprised me and I wanted to to say "you get that I'm your Mom right!", but I never did. I was just happy that they felt they could share that with me! Thank the Lord!

I have been pleasantly shocked to realize that I am considered the cool mom to my two good friends’ homeschooling kids. I am so honored.

You don't want to be your kids friend, they need a "parent". I did it wrong and have paid the price. Beware of this type of thinking.

I think Jen is simply emphasizing the idea that rules without relationship does not lead to openness in communication.
