Being Human is a university preparation programme for Year 12s at state schools in Greater Manchester and Bradford and West Yorkshire, asking big questions about humanities subjects by looking back to the ancient world. The programme involves a residential, which has had to be rescheduled due to the outbreak of COVID-19. In response, the student ambassadors have made a short video for each day of the original three day residential period, asking the big questions they had when they started studying Classics, and having a go at answering them.
For the next two days, Worcester College's Outreach team will post a different big question video each day. Each of the videos will be accompanied by a suggestion of two sources - freely available online - that students could read if they would like to think more about the topics discussed. The students who made these videos would love to know what you think, so please comment below with any thoughts or follow-up questions you have!
For our second video, Jenna and Leo discuss 'Does it matter whether we read a text in an ancient language or in translation?' (Please note that this video contains discussion of the violent deaths at the end of the Odyssey).

Why does this video contain a trigger warning when recent research has shown that trigger warnings increase anxiety?
