I remember passing through Rexburg, going from Yellowstone on my way to L.A., stopping for lunch and to fill my gas tank, in the 80's. Totally fell in love with it. Never occurred to me that is was THE most hardcore Mormon community on the planet. Grew up and raised Catholic in an area of L.A. that had a very sizable Mormon community. Even though I was growing up Catholic, most of the neighborhood kids I played with were Mormons. Wouldn't have worked for me to convert. Loved my coffee and smokes too much!!

I once believed my own religion had the best, most moral people, but I have come to know good people are found everywhere--in and out of all religions--or without any religion. Making friends with a lovely, intelligent LDS woman allowed me a sort of mirror into my own high-control religion. My interest was piqued and I spent years researching the LDS church, history, and doctrines. Finally I had that Aha! Moment: You can be a good, intelligent and kind person and still believe the most convoluted absurd beliefs as the One complete Truth--especially if born in. I am forever grateful for my Mormon friend--we are still friends after 15 years--for waking my from my cult indoctrination.

So last night. My daughter was invited to a "stake dance" and we live in Centerville, Utah. We are non mormon. My daughter was turned away at the door because she didn't have a "ticket" or a pass from the bishop. I had to pick her up, horrified and embarassed infront of her friends. Reason # 1,547 that I am not a Mormon.

Lds Cult invites people to camps,dances,bbq for nafferious reasons! They want everyone Lds and use the kids to convert other kids through peer pressure. Why would they not allow your kid in without a ticket is bizzare. What is one more person. I think it might have something to do with control. Cult use control. At the door I wish your daughter would have said I need no ticket and walked in.

Yeah well like one of Charlie Manson's followers doesn't define the whole Manson family. Or the Branch Davidians, don't define David Koresh. Jim Jones isn't the epitome of the People's Temple, or L Ron Hubbard doesn't encapsulate Scientology. PT Barnum said there's a sucker born every minute and two to take him. PT Barnum was referring to the Mormons it sounds like. Sorry to break the bad news to ya.

When they discovered i was not mormon they tried to proselytize me ! I told them I was a Messianic Jewish believer in the Messiah Yeshua Hamashiac (Jesus Christ) Well you can imagine the conversations we had! My impression of Rexburg is it is an LDS "Bubble" where the Church influences everything from business to politics etc .I think those who live in the Mormon Bubble need to step out of this paradigm and see how the Real World functions!PS i cant fathom why a non mormon , like this Muslim girl, would even entertain the thought of attending a predominantly LDS school? It's ridiculous to expect truly religious people to not think you're wrong when you have a different faith then they do/ no faith. That's pretty much the essence of religion that you think you have to live your live in a certain way to give it a purpose, if this doesn't apply to you but you say you're religious, i can guarantee you, you are not really religious, you wear your "faith" as a token.

I believe they may be looking for a lawsuit or some kind of 'poor me' news coverage and they got it. As far as going to activities where if you don't have a ticket or a pass from the Bishop . I really have a hard time understanding the point of view of someone who is of another faith entirely wanting to attend a university like BYU. I would never for a second consider attending a Muslim university, even if that were the only option available to me. To attend a secular university if you do not have another option in order to obtain a career is understandable as you are not being surrounded by an entire institutional structure of almost everyone believing opposite of what you believe. Muslims consider it completely wrong to think of God having a Son. That is a heretical idea to them, so if you were a Muslim who took your faith even semi-seriously why would you even think of attending there?

Melissa Walker The reason why so many people are moving to Idaho and Utah is because of the job opportunities and the amazing outdoor recreation in both states. These states are both booming right now and becoming less Morman as a result. That isn’t good or bad. I can care less about what religion you are as long as you’re a decent human being.

BYU offers a good education at a low price. If you don't want to be around a party culture that is based around drinking and sex, it also provides that. Do you think only Catholics attend Notre Dame, Emory, or Georgetown? There is no obligation to follow the school's church (and in fact BYU courts diversity and makes accommodations for different faiths). I hope you've grown up and seen more of the world in the last 2 years, Melissa - your comment is small minded and bigoted.

I have had coworkers say that they don't want their children to play with NON MORMON children. One of my coworkers, Betsy, volunteered the information one day, that her husband does background checks on his daughter's friends and also his neighbors. You can pay for that, now, on-line and do background checks on friends and neighbors, and Mormons do. The bishopric, which they used to ask me to attend meeting with, even though I wasn't a member of the church. They still wanted to interview me and I was in the church directory as a member. One bishop asked me if my son was going to be baptized in the LDS church, and I said I am not a member, but his mother is. How is that going to work? Not being worthy to enter the Holy of Holies (the temple) I get to stand outside the door, while my son is being baptized inside, hmmm. I used to listen to the father of a host family berated his children, for very minor infractions, that would have them in tears. While at the same time having an almost incestuous relationship with his stunningly attractive teenage daughter. Sounds kind of like Warren and Rachel Jeffs stuff, don't you think?
@lizzygraham748

Wouldn't you son be baptized in a stake? The temple baptisms are for the dead.
@RobR4455
@RobR4455 6 жыл бұрын
It was not an in-depth conversation, at the time, the bishop just asked and I didn't elaborate or inquire about the rest. I have been to two Mormon baptisms, in the 15 years, I live in Utah. So you're right, it probably would have been at the stake house. Since my son was born into a family where his mother was Mormon and his father was Catholic, I also had him participate in Catholic services and activities too --which in the eyes of a lot of Mormon, WAS TOTALLY WRONG! I was introducing him to Satan's church. Yes I know. With all the news about molesting priests, and stuff, it's an easy conclusion to come to. I myself, was once approached by a member of the Catholic church, who was going to be a priest. But then changed his mind, and he tried to lure me into an UNHOLY activity. I told him to F-OFF I'm not that way! So lots of churches are full of conmen (like Donald Trump, who waved a Bible around and say it's his favorite book) --and women. There are plenty of scoundrels like Ted Haggard, Warren Jeffs, Jim Jones and David Koresh, which the Bible warns us about in it. If you want to meet some REALLY DESCABLY AWFUL people, just go to church. They're everywhere. ...like wife's Uncle Marlin. Who found Jesus Christ at AA, and prayed to receive HIM as his Lord and Savior. But Marlin is STILL a scoundrel at heart.

RC, I would caution you to no be so hard on our President. I get the impression he is a baby Christian who is still learning. I don't think he falls in the same category with Olsteen, Jeffs, Jones, Koresh, or others.

Are you serious? After the Access Hollywood video, Trump University, he could shot somebody and he wouldn't a vote. Now you've just PROVEN that there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING Trump could do. That would cross a line with you. You are SOOO completely loyal (like you are to the Mormon Church, as well) to someone who sees everyone else, EXCEPT HIM, as a loser. Donald Trump inherited a fortune from his father, Fred Trump, and then went on a lavish spending spree. Buying yachts and jets and hotel/casinos, and then bankrupting them! How do you bankrupt 4 casinos, when the House always wins? I know. I know. If Thomas S Monson says it's so, then that's all you need to hear. CASE CLOSED! You'll be blindly loyal to whoever Monson endorses. You'd make an EXCELLENT Warren Jeffs follower. Remember Brian Mitchell's wife, Wanda Barzee, who helped kidnap Elizabeth Smart. You're DEMONSTRATING that kind of unwavering loyalty to a tyrant like Donald Trump. I am making money, up the WAZOO on the Stock Market, with Donald Trump. But I'm no FOOL. I still know that Trump is a narcissistic sociopath. And that's why the Mormon Tabernacle Choir was gaga for Trump, and went yippeeing and yahooing to Washington DC, to be in Trump's inauguration. I suppose you also believe Trump's crowd, during inauguration was bigger than President Obama. Because you still believe in the doctrine of Cain's curse --Praise Brigham Young and Joseph Smith! As well as the Book of Abraham. Check out Flackerman's KZbin video. Sandra Tanner's or Grant Palmer's or Shawn McCraney or Bryce Blacken... something (I forget his last name) but it's called Naked Mormonism, to be enlightened on the truth.

RC, Trump University had only just a couple of complainers who were, incidentally, paid to complain. Bankrupting four casinos is not that hard when the economy tanks and too many hotels were built in perhaps not the best locations. He did it legally. Brought them out of the holes they were in by taking advantage of the legal methodology to do so. Was it Biden whose wife stole from an institution of higher learning they were supporting? Wasn't it HRC, BO, Pelosi, Twinkle toes Rahm, Holder, and on and on who stole the country blind? How about the charities of HRC and BO? Whom do they really profit? (Didn't think a charity should pay for a wedding and buy a penthouse in New York.) Ask the Haitians about how much of that money reached them. How about taxpayers paying off people who have had to endure politicians sexual advances. How about treason and Pizza gate? How about lying about military service and awards? (Kerry and McCain) How about selling off our country to line one's own pockets? How about foreign aid and welfare for those who want to destroy us? How about the war on whites and Christians? How about election fraud? How about dividing our country along color lines once again? President Trump has done a great job in just one year. HRC and BO are still trying the blame game, but no one is listening anymore. If our duly elected President is that repulsive to you, you are not being forced to profit from his genius and agenda. The Access Hollywood video? Is that the one where Billy Bush and Trump were doing some locker room guy talk? Why didn't you complain about a video of BO saying basically the same thing--that wanted p - - - - and ribs? My dad had a great expression for people who complain just to complain. He said people would complain if they were hung with a new ropes. BTW, I am neither a Mormon or a Roman Catholic. Nice try, but no cigar. Need some Prozac or Haldol?

@Hale Hafa By your comments and attitude you are only proving "Professor Jameson" correct. Once you finally stop drinking the Mormon Kool-Aid, and do your exit hopefully some day and join the real world, then you will see how pathetic Mormon thinking is with regard to 1) their lying history, 2) their ever-changing core doctrines and ordinances, 3) the sexual predation of your founder and of many in the church in general to this day, and 4) the horrid way you treat people who disagree with you, or people who have left. So, friend "Hale Hafa," tell my why Utah has the HIGHEST rate in the nation of child sexual abuse. This was reported not by one, but by TWO of the local news channels in Utah a few years ago (but certainly not reported by Mormon-owned KSL.) The Utah head of "Prevent Child Abuse Utah," Mary Lucero, even since that TV report declared that the Utah rate of sexual child abuse was "three times the national average." Tell me why is this the case in Utah? Tell me also why Utah also has the highest rate in the nation of pornography subscriptions. Tell me also why Utah has the fifth largest teen suicide rate in the nation, and why suicide is the number one cause of death among Utah teens. Tell me why Brigham declared that Adam is our God, and those that make light of this fact or "treat it with indifference" will put at risk their salvation. Tell me why the name "Jehovah" was formerly understood in the Mormon Church as one of the appellations of God Almighty, while in the modern church the name "Jehovah" has come to identify uniquely Jesus Christ? If you think Section 110 answers that, then a very careful reading of Section 109 will tell the opposite. Tell me why the early Mormon Church declared that a man had to be a polygamist to enter into the highest degree of the celestial kingdom. Tell me just what day it was when PJ&J came to give Joseph and Oliver the Melchizedek Priesthood? If Joseph declared that 'Ordinances given for the salvation of man before the foundations of the world ARE NOT TO BE ALTERED OR CHANGED' (TPJS p 308), please tell me why the Endowment, the most "sacred" of all LDS ordinances, has been dramatically changed a number of times over the years? Why are LDS people not permitted today to enjoy the ordinance of rebaptism as a renewal, or for repentance, or for healing, as was specifically stated was to be an LDS custom and ordinance in former days? Tell me, why do LDS people not pray on their own in the "True Order of Prayer," either in their own homes around an alter in a room dedicated for that purpose, or in a special room with an alter in ward and stake centers, as was formerly the case? The True Order of Prayer in the Endowment is an instructional setting only, with the ordinance worker doing the actual praying, and not the members. Tell me, why was this lost to current members, although practiced regularly by members of former days? Why should the Endowment Patrons be taught the "True order of Prayer," but then never able to practice it on their own, as they did in former days? Tell me why the Book of Mormon has an identical story as what was reported in the local papers in upstate NY at the time the Smith family lived there, where there was an aging, very venerable preacher named "Benjamin," who was about to retire from preaching. So people came from all over to hear his final farewell address. They came and pitched their tents, as the event was to take more than one day. There were so many people, that they erected a high platform for him to preach from, in order that the people might hear him better. But then the crowd grew so numerous, that people couldn't hear him still, so they distributed written copies of his sermon to all the people. Then, so many of the people were so overwhelmed with his wonderful words, that many of them swooned and fainted on the ground, and many others came forward to make a recommitment to God and Christ. Sound familiar? Tell me how Joseph translated the Book of Abraham from the now extent papyrus that he originally obtained in Kirtland? Modern Egyptologists agree, including LDS Egyptologists, that the translation of this papyrus, which is now possible, has utterly nothing to do with Abraham, nor the PGP "Book of Abraham" text, nor Joseph's interpretations of the Glyphs on the facsimiles published in the PGP. How do you thoroughly and convincingly explain this? How do you explain Wilford Woodruff marrying an additional plural wife seven years after the Manifesto? But if the Manifesto was truly given "by revelation," why does it read that it was given "as advice," and why didn't Woodruff mention anything about it being any revelation until more than a year later in a conference in Logan? Why would a number of the 12 of that era be quoted saying that the Manifesto was no revelation from God, but rather a "trick to beat the Devil at his own game," and pretend to the Government that plural marriage was stopping, all while continuing it in great secrecy for a number of years afterward. Why would all but three of the members of the 12 and first presidency from 1890 to 1904 have participated in either marrying a new plural wife, in performing new plural marriage ceremonies, or in giving specific authorizations for new plural marriages to be performed? I compliment you sincerely if you have read everything here so far. But I'm just getting started. You have a fake church, with a fake history, and fake, ever changing doctrines, that does harm to people in so many ways, not the least of which are its own members, like yourself. And you want to brag about fasting? Mormon "fellowshipping" is disingenuous, as your real motive is either to convert or activate people, rarely to just be a true friend. But against those who seek to bring attention to the errors and harm of the Mormon church, as you do, which is so typical to other Mormons, you defend it by some strawman about fasting, or by meaningless and ignorant one-liners. Grow up. Do your homework, about what your Church actually is. I've been around the block on all these things for many, many years, and very thoroughly. How old are you? It was indeed a heartbreak for me many, many years ago when it became clear there was no other conclusion to draw. But the truth indeed shall set you free.

Hale Hafa You just don't get it. Perhaps some day you will. The Mormon Church uses brainwashing, emotionalism, and group coercion for what you refer to as "Revelation." THE FRUITS OF REVELATION ARE NOT THERE. Did you even read anything that I took the time to express to you? The Mormon Church is as corrupt as any Church out there. Answer the many questions that I put to you. Problem is, you can't. BYU professors can't answer them. They dodge them. FAIR-Mormon certainly can't answer them, they tap dance and skirt around, but ultimately side step and avoid any sound answers. Oaks, Nelson and company certainly can't answer the questions, because they are business men, professionals of the world, and lawyers (Read Matthew 23). It is a complete falsehood that you can override the evidence, logic, and reason simply by what you falsely claim as "testimony." Someone would "exit the faith" as you say because they come to the overwhelming conclusion that it is a FRAUD. It is a fraud the one hand because the LDS Church is in complete apostasy from its roots not concerning merely "policy," but by changing supposedly eternal doctrines, principles, and ordinances; but also on the other hand there was no sure foundation of truth in the first place. As usual, you as a TBM, AVOID ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS, and you AVOID THE ISSUES. An honest, fact and evidence-based. respectful back and forth discussion, would leave any Mormon apologist sorely wanting, which understandably is why Mormons (including you) avoid the questions, and avoid the issues. Didn't Paul say to "prove all things? He did, so ANSWER THE QUESTIONS, and those are only the beginning. Hey, how about one more question: Explain to me how so many of the original revelations were modified and changed from their original wording (as in the Kirtland Revelation Book and the original Book of Commandments) when they were published again in 1835 in the first edition of the D&C? We're not talking about spelling and grammar corrections (for the most part) in the BofM. Why did the Church change so many of the original revelations? These were very significant changes too. If you have such a sure testimony as you say, you needn't fear answering the questions: "The man who cannot listen to an argument which opposes his views either has a weak position or is a weak defender of it. No opinion that cannot stand discussion or criticism is worth holding. And it has been wisely said that the man who knows only half of any question is worse off then the man who knows nothing of it. He is not only one sided, but his partisanship soon turns him into an intolerant and a fanatic. In general it is true that nothing which cannot stand up under discussion and criticism is worth defending." --LDS Apostle James E. Talmage, January 1920 "If we have the truth, it cannot be harmed by investigation. If we have not the truth, it ought to be harmed." --LDS Apostle J. Reuben Clark, quoted in "J. Reuben Clark: The Church Years," Provo, UT: BYU Press, 1983, p. 24.
