I was slightly shocked when I heard that people are confused between what it means to be lesbian and what it means to be transgender. You can be a transgender man and be attracted to men which means you are a gay man. Or you can be a transgender woman and be attracted to women, then you're a lesbian. I thought it was obvious that not everyone is straight despite what gender you are.

Baako Jernigan Yeah! When they agreed with him saying that transgender men were attracted to women, I was surprised. Of course, there a lot of straight trans men, but definitely not all of us are!

They don't represent everyone in the LGBT community after all. I felt they were to critical towards people who ask their audience to be understanding. Because I think you need both types of content. Both the ones talking about the difficulties and the ones just being.

i'm glad someone has said that, it seems that a lot of people think that transgender people go through transition because they like the opposite sex. It's important to remember that you gender identity and sexuality are two separate things

It is confusing. I had a cis male friend who is gay and he married a transgender man. We were all very confused because his partner was still transitioning and we were all like, we thought he was gay? You just gotta love people as humans, doesn't mean I'm a bad person, it's just hard to understand what is what, it doesn't come naturally to everyone, someone had to explain it to me.

Just a quick correction: for women we can and do get a female voice, but it's not through hormones. Surgery can work, but it's often... not great. Instead it just comes from voice training and practice. It took me about 6-8 months to train my voice to be female, and now it's difficult to be read as male even if I tried haha

for ref im transfem non binary (for the uninitiated that means i was born male but i dont see myself as a man, but i do see myself in androgyny and womanhood) its funny in my case id just been actively pitching down my voice as a kid bc i took for granted that im a guy and thats what a guys voice sounds like but when i realized i wasnt a guy i started speaking more naturally and tho the actual tone didnt change much the hatmonics did since i speak less diaphramically and now im always id'ed as a woman over the phone and irl its mostly an eye of the beholder thing but im seen as a girl like 80-95% of the time

I don’t have statistics on hand, but trans sexuality percentages seem to mostly be a three-way split between bisexuality, homosexuality, and heterosexuality, with asexuality being the smallest percentage like it is in the general population.

It is not well known outside the "trans scene" but putting the 2 words together is somewhat seen as disrepectful, because it turns the woman/man into something specific, transman/transwoman. With the 2-parted writing style, it is just a addendum, but makes clear it is woman/man.

My aunt is transgender. (From malw to female) Im so proud of her and our family for being openminded, because I cant imagine not meeting up with her every so often, she is my support system. I have only know her as a woman, that is who she is. So please (for those who have never met and will possibly meet a transgender one day), take them for who they are. and dont say "its weird" (i had a few friends who said that about my aunt and I couldnt understand what they are saying), cuz believe me, they rock! Thanks to my teenage like auntie (we joke that she is more of a youngster than I am), aka bestfriend auntie for being such an inspiration!

Vietnam just had a first international transgender beauty queen and people of all ages are really opening up and accepting transgender. Am very glad my country is more open now, we should understand they are just normal people who also wish happiness like any of us, they just have some conflict wth who they are and wht society requires of them, pls let them be. I'll be frank, it's really great for me -- as a transgender man -- to see fellow transgender men. In the world today -- at least with celebrities -- there really aren't many transgender men who are "mainstream" compared to transgender women (This isn't to say that trans women are bad, but I feel that transgender men are often underrepresented, especially in Western media.). Whether it's due to me living under a rock or not, the only transgender celebrities I have seen have been women, and as much as having transgender representation is beautiful, I personally feel more represented when I see a transgender man, if that makes sense. So, seeing this interview of Eito and Kanata really lifted my spirits.

I'm a ftm too. When I told my mom that im a trans, she wasnt accept me, even until now. I thought she's open minded since she knew that I dated a girl back in middle school and never said anything. But when i come out as a trans, she said "i can accept the fact that my daughter is a lesbian, love is love after all. But i cant accept the fact that I have two sons now, its too hard for me"

There are good books on the subject for parents! Also, she may like to meet other parents and Transgender children! She will need to grieve and adjust! It's a process! It is not easy on either parents nor children! Also, there are some good movies, documentary and fiction on how parents dealt with this issue! Ask her what are her concerns and questions.. I think it's hard for parents to adjust to your identity change in their mind. Even though it's not the case, they feel like they're losing you. I wasn't so sympathetic when I was younger, but now that I'm older I can understand how parents may need time to adjust and process their emotions. That being said, you will always be you, and I hope your mother can see that who you are is only getting stronger and more vibrant. She should be happy that you are clear about your path in life, and that you are fulfilled. You were called to be who you are, and you should go full force towards that calling☺

Yes. Japanese are not threatened by what others do, like in the West. Abrahamic religions are a big part of that in the West. They were corrupted long ago, made into a "fearful god" type thing, with shame, etc.. that just aren't a part of Eastern religions. I have been to Japan many times and I absolutely love the chill vibe compared to the West. They do have their hangups, but agressive negativity isn't one of them. That's what i love about Japan ❤

At the school I work at in Japan, every year the kids have an assembly about fair treatment and not bullying LGBT people. I don't really know what the kids think about it because they don't usually share their opinions with the teachers openly, but one of my older co-workers was annoyed and told me speaking of fairness, shouldn't both sides get an equal chance to argue their part? I know he's my elder, but I gaijin-smashed and told him no, not when one side's position is don't bully these people and the other side is yes, do bully them. It's not a debate, there is not equal validity to these sides and they should not be given equal attention. This guy is pretty racist, sexist, homophobic, everything-ist you can imagine, so he's kind of a lost cause. I just hope as he is a teacher, the kids know better than to take what he says to heart.

Years ago back in the mid 70s our school district brought in an older male speaker to give a sex talk for the whole 9th grade class. He was pretty detailed in his information. At one point one of the guys decided he'd try to rattle the speaker by asking how do gay people do it. The man who was probably in his 60s didn't miss a beat and explained in detail how gay men and women had sex. It was more than I could wrap my head around at the time but I didn't even date until I was out of high school. Looking back there must have been someone in that crowd that needed that information.

jujia7 Well, consider it this way, some people are aware of the two different terms but still haven't learned the difference. Whatever the reason may be, say fear or just having no reason to do so, some don't look for this information themselves. So, although it is obvisious to us, it is not obvisious to others resulting in the question needing to be asked. Just as well, keep in mind we are reading subtitles that someone else wrote. They may not have used that word specifically while speaking. It could be a mistake on the translator's part, but let's not get too salty just yet. It is also possible they don't know the implications or negative attachments to the word.

No, they didn't say shemales. It's the guy who did the sub used the word shemales. New-half in Japan means transwomen, without any hostility. The word has been around for a long time now but it's by no means degrading to transwomen.

The question about lesbians and transgenders actually was great because a lot of people have those misconceptions. I'm a lesbian and my mom is always confused thinking I want to be a boy, or saying that I still being a girl, so clarifying the difference is a really good thing to do.

People should be free to choose how they live their lives and the decisions they make; especially involving their physical and mental being. There shouldn’t be any socially derived negativity since it really doesn’t concern others except for the person. If you think you’re homosexual, heterosexual, transgenders, lesbian, pansexual, bisexual, etc. ... It doesn’t matter. It’s each individual’s choice and people need to learn to accept it and not judge. The issue comes from closed minded, judgmental, and or ignorant people that can’t accept these things about society today as they view it as being abnormal and therefore assume that it’s wrong. It’s not wrong. It’s personal choices. People need to accept that as time changes, things change like what’s acceptable. In this day and age, the sense of “traditional” or “normal” is not really a thing. They’re ultimately antiquated ways of thinking, and in a sense ignorant and very closed minded.

I think that when I lived in Japan, I saw "New Half" (their term for male-to-female transgenders) in pop culture sometimes, but I never saw female-to-male transgender people being talked about. So it's very eye opening to hear about their experience through this interview.

I'm non-binary in the USA, and right now it is getting really bad in some areas of the country. Being trans is illegal in some states, and one person in government said they want to eradicate transginderism. Trans people are scared, some are fleeing their states for states that are safe. I am researching countries that are trans friendly, for people who want to leave, which is why I am watching our video. Thank you for posting it.

Hey, I don't know if this is either a cultural thing or a translation issue, but in western anglophone countries "transgenders" is grammatically incorrect (it's"transgender people/persons") and "shemales" is considered an incredibly harmful term (it has to do with oversexualisation/fetishization and the idea of trans women are"cross dressing men"). I can't believe you interviewed two of my favourite youtubers! Great video and thank you so much for doing this in the first place! A few things I'd like to add: 1. There's not ONE procedure or one surgery. There are several surgeries you can get done, depending on what you personally want for yourself. 2. It is not "the transgenders", but rather "the transgender men/women" 3. "Shemales" is not an appropriate term to use. Transgender woman is better

There are plenty of transwomen with undetectable feminine voices. It just doesn't happen through hormones, but rigorous vocal training. Look up "violet voice feminization" on KZbin.

I think Japan makes the changing gender process longer is to avoid mistakes. Sometimes, some people think that changing gender will help them psychologically but it is not. I have often seen people on KZbin or in interviews say that they regret their sex change or have taken hormones etc. That's why, in my opinion, Japan takes the maximum possible precautions, for the good of people.

The main reason why people regret their sex change is because they didn't suffer through gender dysphoria. This comes from either a misdiagnosis by the therapist, or the patient wasn't completely honest with their psychological professional. Hope this was insightful and helpful @TheGreenDee

I think hormone replacement therapy is best explained with "going through male puberty". The lowering of the voice, hair growth, face getting more masculine, etc. are all changes coming from the testosterone which cis males are getting naturally in puberty. That's why many people call it the second puberty

I just wanted to point out that just because you don’t fit the gender roles doesn’t mean you are transgender. I had similar problems but I am not trans. So being transgender is far more than just not fitting gender roles. So you can still like feminin clothing but feel like you’re in the wrong body. There are boys out there who like wearing feminine clothing. I really dislike gender roles because it puts you into a box for something you can’t change. They used it as an example. Be aware of that because some people make fun of exactly that. But there’s nothing wrong with it. I am shocked that people don’t know the difference between transgender and sexuality. Transgender means how you identify yourself and sexuality means whom you like. Completely different things!
