Back in my day, a "restock" was buying a couple of 8-packs of soap bars when they went on special at Coles so they'd last for MONTHS on end WHILST saving money because you'd only stock them when there was a DISCOUNT.

People in southern India use banana leaves for serving food on special occasions …but only because it is considered good to do so..not for showing off. Edit :- Y’all are correct . Even in northern parts of India dried leaves are used to make plates by sewing them together. Serving on leaves is also a tradition in many countries because it generates a lot less waste compared to plastic plates and cups when you’re serving a large number of people. (They decompose or can be used to make compost). Plus it is really healthy to eat from a banana leaf. But again , we do it because it’s a tradition and is done only on special occasions, not because we don’t have plates and definitely not because we’re ’too lazy to do the dishes’ . The woman in the first video was probably just looking for views because a whole meal is served on a banana leaf, not snacks that can be handheld.

I left my phone at home because I was taken to hospital via ambo and omfg it was such an issue. Had to get a phone for my room, then get my numbers from my medical file for next of kin, then had to have people call me back through reception. Then when I was discharged I couldn’t order an Uber so I had to take a taxi which cost me $30 more than an Uber would have. Then I couldn’t pay because I didn’t have my wallet or phone so had to run in and get my wallet to pay the taxi. Didn’t have any of my lists for when I go to hospital like my meds and such, because they were on my phone!! Just a real PITA.

I completely agree! The problem is not the phone itself but that too many people misuse the phone and spend too much time on it. I completely agree with you. And it irritates me so much when I hear: "phones are what is wrong with today's society", to which I always answer "next time you are in an emergency don't call 911 on your smartphone, go to the police station yourself. Also, in case you need evidence for court use an actual camera. And if you need to scan some documents afterwards go to a xerox". It really is illogical and mostly an argument brought up by people who have no real world experience. I’ve worked with organizations that help the unhoused and one of the most important things you can give someone with no money and nowhere to live is a phone. I’ve seen people literally pull themselves out of poverty because they had a phone number to give future employers and a way to check things like the weather forecast, programs to get help, and a way staying of touch with people. Phones are essential now regardless of how poor you are. Not like you can just go to pay phone.

Hey an Indian here! Firstly, banana leaves are natural, biodegradable, and abundantly available, making them an eco-friendly choice. Secondly, the leaves are large enough to accommodate multiple dishes, allowing for a complete meal to be served without using multiple plates Additionally, banana leaves contain strange anti-bacterial characteristics that help digestion and can destroy bacteria in food. Banana leaves have a wax covering that gives them a glossy appearance and imparts a mild flavour to the steaming food served Banana leaves play two roles here: During baking, they're a vehicle for creating the moist crumb and fruity aroma, and they also serve as a loaf-pan liner that ensures easy removal after baking Banana leaves are widely used for cooking and serving food in Asia, Africa and South America. Before the joys of modern refrigeration were discovered, people in tropical countries used to cook and wrap food in banana leaves to prevent them from spoiling. But have you wondered why people eat on a banana leaf? As per Indian culture, the banana leaf has religious importance and when we eat on a banana leaf, the food is considered 'prasad' (Offering To God During Pooja,Devotional Offering,Purity) In addition, serving hot food on banana leaves gives food a specific smell enhancing the taste and making it healthier and nutritious. 12:00 , I remember in high school grade 9ish , I got my first iPod touch ( never had a phone before ) so it was the greatest gift ever to me and it was through a program that people with more income can help buy gifts for children/ teens from LOW INCOME families who couldn’t afford Christmas gifts for their kids. And I was also in the lunch subsidy program to and I went to the office to get a new form for my parent and the secretary just says” if you can afford a phone you can afford a lunch … 😒” Soon as I got the form, the bell rang and everyone saw me crying hard down the hallway, it really hurt to be poor shamed like that for a stranger who doesn’t know my finical situations at home.

Hello, Native Hawaiian here! We have a dish called Lau Lau that uses leaves as the plate, in the past. However, we would use the leaf to cook the Lau Lau as well, so it would be multi functional since Hawaiians believed in using our resources as much as we could.

In my country (in the Philippines), my family would use banana leaves whenever we have a family reunion in Bulacan, in my grandparents (mom-side's relatives) house. But sometimes, mostly when its independence day, and we only do it SOMETIMES in family reunion, just to celebrate the traditions because it is the traditional plating for "Kamayan" in the Philippines. But that doesn't mean you should do it everyday. In culture or not. Using dishes are more better, because its reusable with the help of motivation of doing chores 🧽🫧. Just please, do chores. PS (EDIT): THE FACT THAT IT WAS JUST PIZZA OR WHATEVER SERVED, JUST EAT IT BY HAND. OH, ITS GONNA GET GREASY?? WASH YO HANDS, DUH. I know that it isn't culture related showing in the video, but, still. As someone who partakes in this, we don't do this everyday in the Philippines.

The bag for me was usually the best part. I still use the bags to hold stuff like pins, sewing material, cloth napkins, little stim toys, and my coveted marble bag for my award ribbons. I even use the drawstring bags i got from glam bag plus (before they merged with boxycharm) to hold other ipsy bags or gifts i mail out to my friends. I would pay that woman to give me them so they dont have to be wasted.

Banana leaves are used in my country, Indonesia, often as plate especially in a more traditional setting like traditional weddings, just not so much on a daily basis. Also, we usually put them ON TOP of a woven rotan plate not just have them on the table. Don't know about other cultures but I'm pretty sure she's just doing it for the look or intentionally rage batting. Also, I hope that isn't the garbage bag and the compost bag instead because she could've easily compost the leaves given she had a large garden to grew banana trees.

There's no need to feel upset about banana leaves as plates! Using banana leaves as plates is a wonderful tradition in South India that has been around for ages. It's quite popular at public events where many people gather. Banana leaves are not only eco-friendly, but they also enhance the flavor of the food, are biodegradable, and serve as a cultural touchstone. Compared to styrofoam or single-use plates, banana leaves are definitely a more sustainable option. Plus, they add a special charm to the dining experience!

I would LITERALLY BEG people for food, seeing videos like “yall know that 1 person who be ALWAYS asking for food? Like yall don’t eat?? 💀” I’m not eating, I’m sorry.
