Yea I was ok with them killing Bond because: 1.) Broccoli and Wilson have been giving the finger to the "Classic Bond Formula" for 15 years, so why would they break tradition now (and "Bond Fans" have supported this BS for some reason) 2.) They have made all his stories linked together so they had to end it in some fashion. And with the bad script writing and lack of creativity we've gotten the past 15 years you could already guess something like "Let's kill Bond" was seriously on the table (As he said Scott had mentioned) and finally 3.) It was Craig's final outing as Bond but I NEVER viewed him as Bond anyway, so him getting blown up was symbolically much needed closure. In this film though Craig FINALLY acted like James Bond and NOT James Bourne, so I liked the film mostly because of that.... I finally felt like I was watching James Bond in a movie so this being the character the era is ending with is fine. Now who or whatever comes next will take this REAL portrayal James Bond the character and go from there.

I'm not here to try and convince anyone of anything or argue with anybody just to share options with the community. That being said I hated this film, just didn't feel like a Bond film to me, Craig's acting felt off, the way people treat Bond was jarring, it was like a middle finger to the character. I could go on but I don't want to sound too negative for those of you who liked it I'm happy for you.

I agree, thought it wasn't a great film really. 5/10 or low 6 at best. Bond is treated in a dismissive manner by almost all the characters involved minus Felix and the fanboi. I don't think women should always throw themselves at him, and it's ok to reject unwanted advances (since I guess that's what we need to highlight in the world now) BUT! He is a commander and has always been a highly respected character among his peers and other agents. He gets the job done after all, he just felt like a lil' bitch in this movie lol. Everyone was against him or had an issue with him, which leads me to believe this was shoehorned in so that the character could be punished for his prior sexist ways. My other main issue is the plot, the script is very, VERY lazy. I don't know how others can't see that. The whole thing of connecting all the characters is classic lazy writing and more inline with the rubbish and dumbed down Marvel universe movies. Newsflash folks - we don't want that in a Bond film. Script just reeks of lazy writing and trying to connect characters that really didn't have to be connected. Sometimes it just doesn't work trying to constantly link everything together, because you simply can't. It comes off contrived and pretty lazy I thought. No chemistry between him and Madeline either. Safin has no real purpose, all he does is talk as well at length. Quite a few problems with this film really. Disappointed.

Atticus & Chris your on point here. Craig's Bond was pushed around by women most of picture. Proper retitle, Just Waiting To Die. Because Adventures In Baby Sitting is taken we're going to have to go with "Family Bonding: The Accidental Dad". The script if you could call it that seemed to be writers picking up plot gimmicks off the table and then trying to write a story around them. Any one know why Bond had to put his Gal on a train to no where? Apparently half a Jason mask doesn't age in this comic book to film version. Small thanks to writers for not making Bonds getaway vehicle a soccer Mom's mini van. Yes the girl is adorable but you know full well she was supposed to be dropped off at Disney Studios and you kept her, at least it was a "G" rated picture.Can any one name the video game they stole the action scene where you get ambushed by 50 motorcycles and 3 dozen cars coming at you out of the woods? Franchise, if you wanted to make the new "00" instantly annoying with the recycled 007 gag you did. Bond submitting to psycho was gross. Thank you Aston Martin awesome. Stunt department some good work as well. Having said that one could have watched the ever expanding trailer and have had a far more pleasant experience. Your own imagination of what you think might happen would far exceed what we paid for on film. No doubt, with ample opportunity in the car or hotel room these writers couldn't write adult dialog between a man and women to save themselves, and so they didn't. Older Bond film goers will remember the films to mirror society during the cold War with Russian U.K./U.S.A. interplay. The reason we get all this sci-fi, comic book trash is it all has to get by or pass the Chinese Communist Party sensors. If they were independent and pro U.K./U.S.A. the next picture would take place with Bond trying to help save Taiwan from invasion and vanquish the Chinese. I seriously doubt they'd be willing to forfeit the box office returns from China. They could go retro to post WW2, safe not unlike what PBS does. Final note, thought it was the woke crowd that killed off Bond with their aversion to toxic masculinity. Apparently it was Craig himself as a condition of his return. Ashame he thought so little of this fan base, many of whom are twice his age and carried real guns in the line of duty to state and country. Where was Bond's Royal Navy fly-by jet with balloon and tether cord, harness that snatched Connery's Bond off the ground from certain death. The franchise has made 6.89 billion, killing Bond sound like a prudent business model? Then again maybe everybody is too old, too rich to care, fans be damned. Some where perhaps Walt Disney and Ian Fleming are standing around having a chat, Walt says to Ian, "What the hell happened to our creations?"

I think for this experiment of Craig’s Bond having a singular connecting story it makes a ton of sense for him to die. It’s gonna get rebooted probably going back to the disconnected one off stories where he can live on at the end. For Daniel Craig’s era this was perfect. A beginning, a middle, and an end.
@EEvtg
@EEvtg 2 жыл бұрын
There was no middle though! Craig's first two films are the very beginning of Bond's career as a 00. Skyfall is the next film, and he's already old and they're talking about retirement/obsolescence of the program. So they skip the entirety of his career. They only decided to make it one connected arc with the garbage fire that is Spectre...and that film cheapens Le Chifre & Silva + made Quantum (the group) redundant. NTTD would've been better as a standalone style film, so it didn't have to tie up the loose ends with Blofeld, which ultimately had no real effect on the plot. Maybe they wouldn't have felt the need to kill Bond off in the most predictable/forced way either.

I loved the movie for its place within the context of the Craig era, and I respect it for all the risks it took. While it has its flaws, NTTD is the most enjoyment I've got from a Bond film since Casino Royale, so as an emotional movie experience I loved it and I'm very excited to watch it again. That said, I do understand why many won't resonate with it, and I do think they need to course correct moving forward. I'd love to see them ditch the overarching story thing they were trying to go for, it didn't really add anything while taking away too much. Having a more human Bond worked really well, but I also want the fun elements of Bond back too. Bond is ultimately a fantasy spy adventure, I want to see more gadgets, more wild stunts, more crazy villains with maniacal schemes. I hope they find that sweet spot for the Bond franchise in the future.

@@JamesLynd I agree with Quantum, but you have to understand that this is still just the 2nd movie for Craig and the Bourne approach needs to be used as Bond was still a rough-around-the-edges kind of agent, also he was still grieving from Vesper's death that's why it is not applicable to insert "fun" elements on that movie. Have to disagree with Spectre, there's a right balance of fun and seriousness on that movie, but the 3rd act is problematic.

I do not buy into the idea that the 5 Daniel Craig Bond films can be seen as a satisfying overarching story or "mini-series". Rather, I sense that the notion that these 5 films form a coherent whole in a narrative sense has arisen to justify some of the story choices that were made in this film - i.e. an exercise in post-hoc justification. If it were the case that the 5 films were intended as a coherent whole, then it was IMO poorly conceived and executed. A few points for why I think this is the case: (1) The first two films form a connected story which featured a Bond who is essentially a rookie. Then suddenly, at the the start of Skyfall, we see Bond as a washed-up hack who is suggested to be too old and bitter for the role of 007. What happened to the the missing years of service that connect QoS with Skyfall? You could suggest that those years were filled with the actions that occurred in such movies as Dr No, From Russia with Love, Thunderball, etc, but then that cuts across the idea that Craig's Bond been seen as its own unique continuity. (2) The end of Spectre clearly suggest an ending where Bond has "got the girl, vanquished the villain (Blofeld), and walks off into the sun" - and this should be no surprise as it was suggested that that film may have been Craig's last. However, the backlash over some of the story choices in this film led (IMO) to the producers second-guessing themselves and seeking a re-do which we now see in NTTD. (3) It seems to me that Spectre set up some really troubling continuity problems in the Craig films by suggesting that Blofeld and Spectre had been orchestrating the previous villains in the preceding 3 movies. Were there any suggestions or hints in those 3 movies of Spectre involvement? Personally, I found it really stretched credulity to think that there had been Spectre involvement all along - rather it seems like this was all cheap plot point (similar to making Bond and Blofeld brothers) to try to quickly give more gravitas and menace to Spectre and Blofeld. If you want an example of a film franchise successfully employing an overarching story over multiple film, look to the MCU films from Iron Man to Avengers: Endgame - this was conceived over years and with the connecting tropes planted in the end credits (and occasionally in the substantive plot) of each film leading to the last. If you want another example of a film franchise poorly conceiving and executing an overarching story, look no further than the recent Disney Star Wars sequel trilogy. Just as in this Bond film, the last in that Trilogy (The Rise of Skywalker) did what it did storywise to fix narrative mistakes in the preceding films. In the Rise of Skywalker, the film makers had to take the frankly ludicrous decision of resurrecting Emperor Palpatine (who had blown to smithereens in Return of the Jedi) to fix the egregious mistake of killing of Snoke, the villain that had been building up in the story until his abrupt death halfway through The Last Jedi.

While I agree with what you said, I will add that this is the prime reason why they did what they did in NTTD to make it a standalone 5 film story arc. They needed to close everything off and show the audience this interpretation of Craig's Bond is set within its own universe. All those bad writing choices and continuity issue they made over the years to connect all the Craig films made it clear that they needed to do it. By wiping the slate clean they can now get back to doing what they did for the first 40 years. Hence the customary James Bond will return in the credits. I would love to see the producers, Craig or the director come out and say something about it but I doubt they will due to the fact that the film is creating so much discussion within the community and that can only be a good thing. I think the risks they took in this entry work brilliantly. People hate change and to do something this bold is refreshing. It's by no means a perfect film and a few aspects could be polished but for what we are getting on the big screen, I'm okay with it. So many fans are overthinking this issue IMO. I just hope we don't have to wait another 6 years for the next one!

It doesn't work for the same reason Spectre didn't work. You have to believe that Bond would give everything up for this woman he has no chemistry with and whom he barely knows. I found the repeated OHMSS references really distasteful, like they were trying to piggyback on that film's success, and it just reminded me that Tracy was a much better character than Madeline.

Didn’t like the gunbarrel and opening snow section. Overlong pre credit sequence. They should have moved the snow sequence to a flashback for Madeline in the Safin / Madeline psychiatrist scene. My favourite section was the Cuba section with Paloma. I really hated the ending. Up to the island section it was going fairly well, then the whole thing collapsed for me. Awful. By the way, I assume since the Mi6 staff have mourned Bond that these incarnations of those characters have to go too. Wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Fiennes, Harris, Whishaw and Kinnear too! By making the Craig films a continuous story with Casino Royale as him getting his 00 and then dying in his last film, this means that they can now kill Bond again. They've set a precedent now, and I'm not happy with it. Neither is my partner who is a massive Bond fan too.

I was interested to hear your opinion on this movie. I've been a Bond fan from the Sean Connery era. I've pretty much enjoyed all of the incarnations, but (and I know you won't agree with me on this) I found the whole Daniel Craig era the least entertaining. I'd much more see the individual adventures than have everything stitched together in sequels. I thought all of the female characters in this film were excellent. I was somewhat apprehensive from the previews about the "new" 007, but I thought it was handled perfectly. Can't say enough good about Paloma, and thought the Madeline Swan character was a huge improvement over her presentation in SPECTRE. I doubt I will be watching this movie repeatedly because of the ending, and actually, it may be a while before I can thoroughly enjoy any Bond movie. Not a fan of killing off an iconic hero.

I enjoyed the review. I don't think this was a horrible movie, but I wasn't particularly over-joyed with it either. I felt like, the goal was met... A good send off for Daniel Craig, and he can be proud on that and I'd rather this movie exist, than not. SPOILERS: But, I do think the sense of danger was far more pronounced in Skyfall (with his injury) or in Casino with Vesper's reaction to death, than we got here with the Superman Bond. Also, I thought there were far too many plot points that were under-developed. The new 007 had a very enjoyable friction with Bond, which felt like it was missing a 3rd act, after she suddenly gave him back his 007 designation after deciding she respected him suddenly. The Felix send off was good, but I really felt like he should have been at the Spectre meeting in Cuba kicking butt with Bond, instead of him being in a club and then getting shot in the next scene... I've met people that only watched the Craig films that were totally unaware who Felix was, or why they had a connection. The villain was setup great, but once again, lacked a compelling 3rd act, which ultimately made the death of Bond kinda weak, because I just didn't buy this was the guy that took Bond down. I totally agree the Blofeld stuff was nonsense, with more Blofeld telling us how evil he is, instead of the film showing us. The virus itself was a massive plothole.... If Bond was infected with the Spectre killing virus at the Spectre party, wasn't that enough to just kill Blofeld outright, or did Safrin remove Blofeld from the list? But... We needed a reason to reintroduce Madaline. Then there is this entire thing going on with Mallory, that he apparently created Hercules... WHAT??? Shouldn't Mallory be in jail? Did Bond die because Mallory is a moron? The film's need to have all these different plot threads resulted in none of them really being developed in a way that was as satisfying as it could have been, and some of them being disappointing, such as Moneypenny or Q having very little to do. Everything was good-to-okay, but very little was great. I mean, Bond died, and I'm not really sure what would have happened if he hadn't sacrificed himself because I have no idea what the villain's real plot was outside of killing random people for very little reason. I also found it very strange that Bond would fall for Blofeld's trap at the beginning... But, I'll buy it because the BEST part of this movie was the Madaline and Bond relationship, which I give them props, I hated that relationship in Spectre and they won me over here. I really was confused however, with the constant references to On Her Majesty's Secret Service, because... that just kept making me remember they retconned one of my favorite Bond films into non-existent. Not only did Tracy Bond die, she now doesn't even exist, and her theme music is now Madaline's? I guess you could make the case that Madaline is effectively Tracy Bond, and therefore, No Time to Die, has Bond sacrifice his life for her to live, but why not just call her Tracy? Given all the tech, and crazy stuff we've seen in prior Bond movies, I just didn't buy that the virus was permanent. All in all, it was a fun film, 7/10 as a Bond film, an 8/10 as an ordinary film, and miles better than Spectre or Quantum.... Mission accomplished!

Everything up until the island was top tier Bond for me, even with the little writing problems with the Blofeld scene which I actually didn’t mind his performance here as he had a bit more Hannibal Lector about him. Even on the island there was some fantastic action and interesting twists for me. The only thing that let it down was Safin’s motivations outside of Spectre and Madeleine and why he was wanting to use the nanobots. I think the third act when Bond and Safin meet and are on their knees talking is where it should have been explained clearly rather than Safin ruining the twist that Mathilde is Bond’s daughter before Madeleine does so. As far as the end goes it doesn’t bother me as I can now watch the Craig films as one continuous arc from a young 00 in Casino to his death here. It will make for an interesting binge watch for sure.

As a huge 007 fan, I've never come out of a cinema so depressed and disappointed, and not just due to that ending, which basically feels disheartening to die hard fans like me. The script was a mess, and felt like a soap opera most of the tilm. Even the action wasn't all that thilling, which doesn't help when bond has hi young daughter in the same vehicle. Oh, what was the writers thinking. But i'm right if you think about it. Because it's daniels last film, they thought, let's kill off all SPECTRE agents, and so they do it in one scene to have it done and dusted. What a cheap way to do it. Oh, then let's kill felix, blofelt and bond seen as it's his last movie. Felt so forced and unnecessary. My worst bond film ever and will never waste another minute on this film. Happy for those who get something out of it, but if you really think about it, aside from all plot holes and issues, the film wasn't worth the wait was it ?

If I wanna see that guy, I’ll look at my neighbor, my colleagues, or look in the mirror! I am the same age as the Bonds, and I want to see the tall, dark , and handsome Connery/Moore types who are invulnerable and provide all the fun elements of a parallel fantasy world - that’s why we go to the movies! Hello and greetings from a Bond fan in Poland! :) I'm very happy that you enjoyed NTTD. For me it was easily the second best Craig's approach towards Bond after Casino Royale. This Craig's 5-part miniseries is probably the first cinematic attend to capture the whole 'life cycle' of Bond from gaining 007 status (and even earlier with Skyfall's journey into the past) to his death and heritage. And btw I really love the last shot of NTTD as Madeline and Mathilde are entering the tunnel which clearly reflects entering the classic gunbarrel. It is a very simple and very effective summary for the whole franchise. Anyway thank you very much for this review and looking forward for the next discussions about NTTD!

Craig is quoted as saying: “When I started as Bond on Casino Royale, one of the early discussions I had with Barbara [Broccolli] and Michael [G. Imho killing off James Bond (assuming he isn't actually dead and it's not a plot gimmick and he doesn't survive/return in Bond 26!) - was a very foolish mistake by Eon Productions. 1- Massively divisive amongst the fanbase. Killing off Bond has resulted in some fans very upset and feeling betrayed. Older fans have followed and supported the franchise for decades and killing Bond feels like Eon saying "screw you" to the fans. The producers don't care if their decision will upset older, long term fans. 2 - Disrespectful to the work and legacy of Ian Fleming and Albert Broccoli. Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson were bequeathed the Bond franchise. In terms of ownership they can do what they like with James Bond, but I would argue they have no moral right to kill off Bond to appease the selfish demands of the lead actor Daniel Craig. 3 - pointlessly ruining any semblance of continuity. Bond is dead in Bond 25 but magically back alive in Bond 26? Ridiculous. 4 - Arrogance. It's an act of arrogance for Daniel Craig to insist his return to the role is conditional on the death of Bond. James Page of MI6 James Bond fan site confirmed that information. Who is Craig to decide a fifty nine year old film character has to die?! Craig kills off Bond then leaves the franchise. He avoids any accountability. 5 - Unnecessary downbeat, depressing end to Craig's Bond era. Many fans have enjoyed Craig's tenure as Bond. Killing off his Bond is a weird way to bring his character/story arc to a conclusion. Hardly going to make fans think "wow, i invested fifteen years in this version of Bond, that was worth it!" Killing off Bond is a nihilistic approach to the franchise. Life is kinda meaningless so let's make Craig's Bond era meaningless too. 🙄

For me it was a fantastic film with an awful ending. SPOILERS!!! The last thing I want to see in a Bond film is Bond dying. This is my favourite franchise. I love it since I have memory. And after this year and a half of pandemic and tough times, I needed to see my hero in a new movie. And I felt it failed me at the end. It gave me the most depressing and cruel ending ever. I left the cinema so down and sad. And it´s a pity because I LOVE almost the whole rest of the movie (yes, Safin needed more). I watched a second time the following day, I enjoyed again a lot... until the end. My hero blown away with missiles. Come on! And now everytime I´ll watch NTTD, I will feel bothered by that. And it´s not only that he dies. It´s also how he dies. Because he surrendered. He could have left that island, avoid contact with Madeline and Mathilde, live alone in Jamaica again, seeing his daughter grow up through skype, and just wait for a possible cure. No, he just thinks "Oh, I can´t be near my love and my daughter... I prefer to die here." That´s not James Bond for me. I didn´t feel this betrayed since The Dark Knight Rises (again, other character I love doing the last thing I thought he would do). Bond, Madeline and Mathilde in the car at the end. Why not? It would have been so great. The first James Bond movie with him retiring with a family. It would have been totally different that way too. But no, we live in a time where the only great sendoff for a character is killing him.

I mean, he’s supposed to be some fully trained, hardened badass who can engage an entire squad solo, apparently spent most of his career looking over his shoulder and trusting no one, then he just suddenly runs into the middle of the garden carelessly in plain sight unarmed just to get ambushed from behind, despite knowing full well that there are still threats around. Joe as a fan of your channel, having watched this review & the wonderful round table discussion on The Bond Experience all I can say is "shocking, positively shocking"! NTTD is a mess. Technically it's a marvelous achievement. Story & plot, a "D" minus. Very disappointing for me to say the least. My overriding question is where do they go from here? Is it possible to just wipe the slate clean & reboot up again? What say you 'head of section'?

God, I hated this movie so much. I completely disagree that this movie was Fleming-esque. I reckon Fleming would be turning in his grave with how ridiculous the plots have gotten. The nanabots stuff was SOO bad. I feel like the Craig era has been on a downward trajectory since Casino (masterpiece) with one other high point (Skyfall). By the end of this film I was honestly quite happy that he died because I was so tired of Daniel Craig as Bond, made me miss Brosnan which is saying something. I thought there were so many cheap plot points in this movie to try to force emotion into it: the daughter, his death, and the references to OHMSS (don’t ride on the coat tails of a brilliant film). They all ended up falling flat for me. Had to watch Living Daylights today as a palate cleanser.

A great 9/10 film until the end, drops to a 6/10 after what the makers pulled. Not happy at all of what they've done with a 60 year franchise.

So “Die Another Day” didn’t mark the start of your unhappiness with the franchise? Because, IMO, No Time to Die was leaps and bounds better of a film and pulled this franchise away from becoming a goof-fest that the franchise was headed towards at the end of Brosnan’s era. I think the franchise is going to be fine….more realistic storylines…unless we want the franchise to turn into Fast n Furious.

"They betrayed the fans." I could not agree more. You said it. How could they do that and not think it would upset every single fan? A happy ending is too much to ask? For Bond after all he's done? For us?!

Joseph, I respect your reviews and I see your take. Hadn’t seen the film but spoilers don’t bother me. Killing Bond? It bothered me. But since Fleming nearly killed him, I think you’re right. He would appreciate this as a final tribute. What are your thoughts on how they handled Q? My issue with watching them all together is Spectre. It made Bond clueless as Blofield was behind the three previous films and Bond had no suspicion. Though, I am done with Bond. This caps it off for me. Thank you.

"This is the last film in Craig's tenure. Does that mean we're allowed to do what ever we please and burn all our bridges?" The answer is no. Bond is a legend of fortitude and this film kills that legend. It was the ONE thing I didn't want to happen in this film. Other than that, my mind was wide open to whatever. It's such a betrayal to the audience b/c the previous Craig films set him up to be the legendary, invincible James Bond we all know and love and NTTD does a complete flip on it. And for what? To give a true sense of finality to Craig's era? A surprising emotional punch? I kept telling myself that they MIGHT kill Bond at the end before it came out, but I was foolishly optimistic in believing that they wouldn't be that meanspirited. I refuse to pay to see this film and will wait for it to be released on DVD so I can check it out at my local library for free. After that, I'll never see a new Bond film again. The legend is dead whether the franchise continues or not.

@@jesseowenvillamor6348 I actually loved the Craig era for everything it did. And of course I'm complaining about the ending like there's no tomorrow. You don't seem to understand that the ending of NTTD is going to dramatically impact how we view future Bond films. The next time we see Bond in danger, we won't care as much because they already killed him once and you can't shock your audience a 2nd time.

@LeonWick526
@LeonWick526 2 жыл бұрын
@@jesseowenvillamor6348 I didn't see Logan or Avengers because I'm not a fan of either franchise. You're also missing the point, I know it's the Daniel Craig version who died. But now we see Bond as someone who can be killed and we never thought of him as someone who would be killed because he's written as an "exemplary of British fortitude." Bond's trademark is that he always finds his way out of tight spots and never gives up. You can reboot Bond as many times as you want, but you can't reboot the legend of the never-say-die secret agent. Don't bother giving me any crap about "this Bond is different b/c he's more human", etc. The character of James Bond is something you borrow and return in one piece. Not keep and destroy at your own leisure.

James Bond is not to be a "humanised" or depressing person. He is not a Jason Bourne alternative. All Bond fans have loved Bond for the "escapism" he offered. For beeing "the man that every other man wants to be and every woman simply wants". Is that the case with today's James Bond? In the BBC interview of Mark Cousins called "scene by scene", SEAN CONNERY had said about the evolution of the Bond franchise: “If there is a criticism about where its gone, or come, is to: too politically correct... not quite dirty enough... That’s what’s kind of missing because it gives a little bit of spice at no cost. And the other thing, it started to drift towards antiseptic assence”! God, how right he was!!!

I'm okay with how the DC era wrapped up. I walked out of the theatre not feeling a strong reaction either positive or negative. It felt more like, well I guess that's how DC wanted to end his run and I'm okay with it. The emotionality that the filmmakers were going for didn't really connect with me 100% because I'm not convinced Madeleine is the love of Bond's life. It was clear that Bond still had not gotten over Vesper and it's been 15 years since her death, that's how much Vesper meant to him. I had thought that he had moved on after he dropped Vesper's necklace in the snow at the end of QoS, but apparently not. I think if it were possible to get Vesper back and Bond had to choose between Vesper vs. Madeleine, he would have picked Vesper, no question, hands down. I think the writers unintentionally sabotaged the Bond-Madeleine relationship by making the Vesper callback too heartfelt. If Bond had simply walked away from Vesper's tomb after briefly paying his respects, that would have showed the audience he had moved on and the relationship with Madeleine would have been more convincing. When he said "I miss you" in the way he did at Vesper's tomb, my gut reaction was OMG he still hasn't move on, this won't be good for Madeleine.

Warning, plot reveal and analysis below... As Bond fans we didn't attend the cinema, we attended a Red wedding. Our favourite spy was killed in front of us and we applaud? No. This film is a fundamental betrayal of everything James Bond stands for. He is an archetype, the hero, a story as old as time, good prevails over evil, from our earliest childhood, we've heard countless variations of this story. A story where both the hero and villian are defeated does not fit this tradition. It's not Bond. It's not cricket. The people responsible for this film are the exact same people Bond would be fighting against. This will not stand. Good will prevail.

Happy to hear your justification on the ending Joe and it makes sence, but for me it's all a bit too coincidental that his death, the child, being replaced by a black woman (who has an odd distaste for him) all happens in the same movie. I understand the whole mini franchise within the franchise thing.... But they absolutely HAVE to go back to original mini adventures with the new actor.

I had so many of the same issues with the film. What was her big secret? Why did the opening scene contradict Madeline’s story in Spectre? What was Saffin’s plan? Why make Bond lose control with Blofeld-he could have grabbed him by the neck to demonstrate menace and his ability to kill him but choose not to (like in Spectre). I thought the daughter was a ridiculous idea. It was supposed to soften the blunt instrument? She was really superfluous to the story. I was so confused by the ending. I also stayed to the end of the credits to see that line. I just wondered, “How?” I felt like the movie was more an effort to pay tribute to Daniel Craig than make a Bond film. My 14 y/o son truly summed it up: “It was pretty good, but it didn’t feel like a Bond film.”
