After rewatching the LotR movies for years and finally reading the books, I began searching KZbin for Tolkien lore. And I have to say you have the very best channel I've come across. I'm constantly spouting Tolkien facts to my husband and kids and thanks to your videos I'm beginning to be able to answer their questions. Thank you for being such a fun part of my family!! I remember back in the good ole days in 2013 when I first read The Silmarillion. There was no KZbin channels, just Gold Seven and Jenny Dolfen and all the art of these beloved characters. Now there are almost too many KZbinrs that do Tolkien Lore. But I do have to say: far and away, Rainbow Dave has the best content and enthusiasm. And most importantly, he gets it. He understands the depths of the significance of all these beautiful and tragic events that unfold in this tapestry. He deserves 500K subs easy. Thank you for all that you do Rainbow Dave!

By far the best Tolkien lore channel. Sure some channels have longer videos but it’s really just a ton of power points like reading from a list of things that happen…. Where as you not only quote the lore and dialogue but you break down everything from character growth to why a character changes, how they feel and the kind of fundamental person they are to begin with. It’s incredible and such a beautiful ability.

Although I am personally of the "Gil-galad was Orodreth's son, not Fingon's" school, as that appears to be the consensus, I am SO EXCITED for this new series!!! Finally!!! (Also looking forward to the video about Gil-galad's parentage, of course. You never disappoint).
@echuidor2 жыл бұрын
I believe that Gil-galad was Fingon's son which is why the High Kingship passes to *him*
@BrianStorm7422 жыл бұрын
@@echuidor I mean, Christopher Tolkien has said it was an editing mistake on his part and that JRR Tolkien intended for Gil-galad to be Orodreth's son. But to answer your question: the kingship of the Noldor seems to have been based on the question: who is the oldest male descendant of Finwë (not counting the ones still in Valinor, of course). Whether Gil-galad was Orodreth's son or Fingon's: he is the only candidate left. Besides him, only Galadriel remains after the destruction of Beleriand, but she's obviously a woman. So Gil-galad's parentage is largely irrelevant for him becoming High King of the Noldor.
@echuidor2 жыл бұрын
@@BrianStorm742 Gandalf, I mean Tolkien, intended for many things to happen Sam, I mean Brian, but not all came to pass because he finished his story before he could finish his story. Therefore, his decisions remain unnanounced. Example: the round world Silmarillion, the creation of the first Orks. Who knows, perhaps the millisecond before he died a neuron fired in his brain with the message that he ultimately decided that Gil-galad's father is Fingon? Question mark? Period.
@BrianStorm7422 жыл бұрын
@@echuidor I mean, that's kind of the beauty of it. I'm not saying it's definitively wrong to believe Gil-galad is Fingon's son. I am saying that him being Orodreth's son doesn't make him any less eligible for the High Kingship.

The first age imo Dave was the stuff of legends. Think about it. The elves at their height. Magic existing with the world. People knew of the powers of the west and for a time there were four centuries of peace. To a elf only a blink of a eye but to a mortal with the average life expectancy of 60, must've seemed like paradise. But all good things must come to a end

All this lore is better than anything Amazon will release. Your channel is on the list of those that I will suspend all other entertainment, and even minor unimportant business to hear. Lotus Eaters, Ben Shapiro/Daily Wire, Church Militant, Geeks and Gamers, RK Ourpost, Nerdrotic, and Andrew Klavan are also on that list. I believe that Tolkien would be thrilled to see his work so well analyzed and described. My youngest sibling I'd only six, but I anticipate the day that I will introduce her to this channel so she may one day be instructed in the great tales constructed by one of the greatest linguistic minds of the 20th century.

Sindar with axes is indeed very cool, and with their long-term friendship with the dwarves, it makers perfect sense. Where else would they get their weapons - the Noldor learned to make swords in Arda from Morgroth himself, not in Middle-Earth. So the first weapons in Middle Earth were likely bows of elvenmake and axes of dwarven make.

While I fully understand the other side of the argument, Gil-galad to me will always be Fingon's son. Perhaps if the amendment had been made in Unfinished Tales, I could have learned to cope with the disappointment. But not until Vol 12 of HoME? Nope, sorry, no can do. By then I was (and still am) far too emotionally invested in fantasy's most epic father/son/grandson trio - Fingolfin, Fingon, Ereinion. Fingon is my favorite character in all of Tolkien, so I'm both anticipating and dreading the next two videos. Perhaps he can also receive the "full character breakdown" treatment at a later date? Please? I dare say he's worthy of it!
