Problem: I'm a college sophomore and my brother is a senior in high school who wants my college advice. He's down to two options in the same major as I am: one school that guarantees him some unique benefits(research) and would cost much less, and the one I currently go to that's slightly better at our major. He wants my advice, but I don't really trust myself to help him partially given that I've been depressed for most of college and I also don't want to influence him one way, but I do want to be helpful. Thank you John for all of this though and I know you don't like talking about your mental health because it's personal but it does really matter so thank you for that. In formation line-ups, you don't include the goalkeeper because his position never changes whatever the tactics (e.g. 4-4-2, 3-5-2, 5-4-1, or whatever - they all add up to ten) so in fact it should be "0-10-0".

Dear Americans, Although Mr Green's self-deprecating humour about your men's national team is undoubtedly amusing, for the sake of football (soccer) accuracy, and to increase your future enjoyment and understanding of the sport, I feel it is necessary to point out that a team formation of 0-11-0 , whilst obviously intended here merely as a joke, is in fact completely nonsensical anyway. This is because you never include the goalkeeper in a tactical formation description. The keeper's basic position and role on the pitch (field) never changes , regardless of his team's formation . It is unnecessary to indicate where he is expected to be. Hence, you will notice that every tactical formation (e.g. 4-4-2 , 4-3-3, 5-4-1, etc) totals ten rather than eleven. I don't know about you, but I certainly feel better now. Yours faithfully, An English pedant.
