-How many squares do I need for a baby blanket?
This can vary, it really can be however big or small you like, but i generally do 4x4 or 5x5.

-How many chains shall I do for a *single/double/etc' blanket?
Again, this can vary. I would suggest that you do your chain and lay it down agains the bed you are wanting it for. It should be the same width. You should then ad a few more to make it a little wider.

This was an amazing tutorial. I had just started crochet around 2-3 days ago and this was easy to follow. For any beginners watching this video as their first project I would recommend starting small like doing a mini heart or flower and practice crocheting on them and then starting with bigger projects just so it doesn't feel overwhelming at the start.

So apparently there are several different ways to make a granny square, and this was the first tutorial I tried (after trying three or four others) that didn't have *anything* confusing in it, which means I was actually able to complete the square! Thank you for being awesome!

Quite literally the best and easiest pattern I’ve ever followed. I’ve tried to follow several written patterns for granny squares today alone, even ones that specifically say “easy for beginners” but every time it ended up looking wrong or it was super confusing. I’ve just finished my very first square and it looks perfect!!

I just wanted to say a massive thank you. I learned to crochet watching your channel and my first project was your starburst blanket. Fast forward two years, and many projects later, thanks to a minor stroke, I'm medically retired from work. Due to balance issues, I spend most of my time on my ever widening derriere! I'm relearning to crochet watching your channel, as well as following your journey as a mum on your other channel. You really are an inspiration. maybe when you put your slip stitch into something to complete the row it turns out like that? for example, you put the stitch into the 4th ‘V’ instead of the 3rd ‘V’. Maybe your tension for the yarn and hook is too tight and you’re maybe using the wrong hook? just trying to help :)

I was going to say your tension! you have to keep a consistent tension throughout the project (depending on what you’re doing), i learned the hard way and had many many “lumpy” projects for a while 😂

Hello, I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to you and let you know what an impact you have made on someone. You are such an awesome teacher. You made this tutorial so easy for an absolute beginner like me. Till today I never even picked up a ball of yarn or crochet needle so I can't believe i have actually made a granny square and have been able to do this! I have to admit, it's taken me a good couple of hours to get used to the feel of what I'm doing but you explained it so thoroughly and simply I was able to figure out what I am looking for and I have nailed it! Shabna Shahid I know this is an old comment but I totally agree with you. My mom sat and helped me crochet a granny square for 3 hours, and now I'm trying to do one on my own... not as easy to start! She definitely made one of the best tutorials around! My Mom was getting frustrated because I didn't get what she was explaining so now that I can make my own I just let her think that she taught me that! 😂 all in all when my Mom's happy, the family is happy... this video was a life saver!!

I have seen this video before and thought I could not do this but if i'm being honest it was so easy to do. I have made four squares so far, and they came out so well. I'm using my laptop to do these. I have to use my phone when I have a moment and show my work. I am remaking a blanket that I made 20 years ago for my daughter and decided to try granny squares she loves them, and i'm so happy. Thank goodness for you. I was taught by my Grandmother about 60 years ago and used to make blankets, hats and hot water bottle covers. I then was taught knitting and kept up with that, until now. I had forgotten everything then you reminded me and I thank you for that and your very easy to follow instructions. Take care.

For anyone struggling with getting the shape, I found when doing the corners I needed to sort of pinch and shuffle along/into place the clusters of triple-crochets as Ive not managed to get them naturally to be in the right place, yet - I imagine that will come with practice as this is my very first piece, ever! (Took me a few goes of trying, unravelling, trying, unravelling but I got there!)😊 Thank you for the really helpful, slow and informative video. This has helped me make my very first granny square!🎉
