Just saw this movie tonight, holy cow it was good! Visually it is one of the best and most complex pieces of animations I've ever seen. Emotionally, despite being about a teenage girl, it dealt with a lot of universal themes (death & abuse) that will connect with anybody. These scenes ended up becoming very emotional and will probably impact even the most hardened souls. I greatly recommend it!

It may not be a common language. However, the melodies she creates are wonderful, and I encourage you to listen to them. So many comments about how beautiful Kylie McNeil's voice is, and I completely agree. But, the casting director deserves a raise for finding these two voices for Suzu/Belle that manage to compliment each other so well! I usually can't watch dubs after hearing the original, because the characters just sound so different expressively that it feels wrong, like they aren't the same character anymore. But I didn't get that from this one at all, albeit only from the short trailers I've seen.

I couldn’t agree more. When it comes to the Hosoda films they usually cast the English language counterparts incredibly well and here they’ve done it again I didn’t expect them to translate the songs as they sounded absolutely perfect in the first place and there’s nothing wrong with having subtitles or not there, as you can still feel the heart and soul behind every melody. It’s still wonderful that we have this option though. It would be great if when the physical release come out, that viewers can choose between not only the language of the main characters but also the song language being played, so we can get the desired benefit out of both. Now that would be amazing.

i still think the japanese version is 'the' version (especially after seeing it last night), but i legit thought it was just kaho singing in english the first time i watched the dub trailer. very impressive casting i don't like the idea of dubs still being around in an era of largely dub-free foreign media taking over western entertainment, but until anime gets the artistic respect it deserves in the west, at least we have some casting directors taking it seriously

They also made sure that the lyrics- in both sub and dub- were ones that a girl roughly Suzu’s age would have written (rather than a Disney song where it was clearly written by big names for a character to sing) so it works well to immerse you into the story.

They've put so much effort into this its outstanding and to be honest, I might have a much more bigger preference to the dub than the sub because of how well executed it is! I remember in an interview with Kylie McNeil, the voice of Suzu in english, she said that she made the people in the studio cry when she sang a million miles away, and I don't blame em! that song is so full of emotion I dropped a tear for the first time when watching a movie and that's one of the things I love about this movie, beautiful as heck

@@holdupsomethingaintright7919 my only complaint about A Million Miles Away is how it is more like two songs that just got spliced together in the OST. I would love it if the chorus died off slowly and then the next track began the “Sing!” Portion. I had to separate it myself at home for the sake of my sanity. The actual song is spectacular, though. I read somewhere that they actually used about 3,000 unique voices in the chorus in order to give us the feeling that it was an actual concert, especially after the lockdowns isolated us for so long.

I do hope though on the physical release that, even if you do you select English as the main character language, you can still choose whether or not you want to hear the songs in Japanese or English. That would be absolutely wonderful. I think they did something similar with Your Name when that came out. As I think the language options differ between when it came out in cinemas and when the Blu-ray was released.

I have patiently waited for this movie since it was officially announced ages ago. Hosoda despite my lukewarm feelings about Mirai is one of my favorite directors period. The man deserves more recognition and I hope the effort GKids has clearly put into this dub can bring him closer to that. Wish the dub was available near me in IMAX but I'll take a normal screen.

I feel like he still has received the recognition he deserves for quite a long time. It’s just that more recently internationally he has been overshadowed by some other big-time anime directors. Those directors themselves though have also become also rising stars in recent years thanks to their big blockbuster hits. For me, Mamoru Hosoda will remain my favourite director thanks to his creating Wolf children, my all-time favourite story. My second favourite film from him is probably The Girl who Leapt Time. It’s message definitely speaks deeply to me as I’d imagine it has done for many other people for all these years. I’m glad BELLE Will help though to draw even more attention to his other masterpieces so far.

You will not regret it once you see it. Definitely worth hearing though in both Japanese and English. This translation of the music here is absolutely brilliant but you can still feel the same type of emotion and soul in every melody of the original Japanese language versions, to the point that you don’t even feel like you need subtitles to know what is being spoken to you.😌❤️❤️👌🏼

The music also hit even harder since I could totally focus on it instead of reading lyrics while I was listening. She does remind me a lot of Hana. She is a little bit younger here but we can probably put her appearance down to the distinct style Hosoda uses for his characters. Wolf Children is probably still my all-time favourite film. Not just from Mamoru Hosoda, but from anime as a whole. I can definitely see how her house is similar to theirs from their life in the countryside. Ideally I’d love to live in the same kind of house someday. The city life isn’t for me long-term, and living in the Japanese countryside like this (unlike for a lot of modern Japanese people it seems) would be a dream come true.

Seen last week in preview in France and it is both the best animated film and the best film of this year. It's an impressive slap in terms of visuals and sound but also in terms of history by addressing themes that we are surprised to see. The songs are also wonderful (very different from the Disney songs and IT'S SO MUCH BETTER !) And the last 30 minutes are so powerful that it's hard not to cry. This time, Mamoru Hosoda deserves the Oscar for this wonderful film. See this great movie AT THEATERS !

I was blown away with the beautiful signing of the actress. I usually don’t cry in movies, but this one had me balling like a baby at the end. I loved this movie so much!
