Alright so, being a Thai person I could shed some light on some of the stuff that happened in this film. First, the sword guys were doing a kind of sword dance, it’s mostly a spiritual thing, executioners used to do a version of that before they chopped a guys head off back when sword executions were still a thing. The “voodoo merlin” is a Thai sort of dark wizard, they practice the occult arts while monks have the “good” magic that purifies and protects people from harm, these guys cast magic to harm others and stuff. A general rule when it comes to Thai occult is that when your dark magic curse doesn’t land on someone for any reason it will come right back to you with full force which will probably kill you. And the bad English is probably from Seagal hiring cheap Thai actors with terrible English lol. They still somehow manage to sound better than Seagal’s English though xD
@RedEyeReviews2 жыл бұрын
Oh thank you so much for the added detail! That is so interesting about failing a curse and it coming back on you. So being a dark magic user is a very dangerous thing to yourself even. Thanks for the clarity :)
@twoevileyes2 жыл бұрын
I was hoping for someone with Thai culture roots or who studies it to clarify things because this was looking borderline offensive and mixing Asian cultures to make it more cinematic. Edit: I forgot to mention I was also worried about the "dark magician" because in Eastern films they always portrait non-catholic religions with African or Amerindian roots as evil, when this is not true and most rituals are to cast protection, prosperity (think of good crops and harvest) and other good things.
@francisnopantses11082 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. I'm guessing the Thai government or military cooperated to make this movie and those were actual soldiers that weren't paid. The US military works with Hollywood on some movies as well. Sort of a product placement/propaganda deal. As for the rebound on curses, thank you for that insight. That's a thing in Chinese magic systems as well. I don't know what it's called in Chinese but it can be translated as rebound (my preference) or backlash.

Here's a piece of trivia I've heard that seems to generally hold truth: Steven Seagal has a contract so that movies starring him(in a lead role) need to have titles that carry on a description of him. Example: Steven Seagal is Above the Law Steven Seagal is Attrition Steven Seagal is Out for Blood And this movie would fit that naming convention PERFECTLY(even better than Seagal likely realizes) Steven Seagal is The Belly of the Beast. I know there's at least 1 or two movies that break this rule, but if you look through his leading roles, it holds true like %99 of the tike

One of the things I love/think is hilarious about Segal is that when he's doing an action scene, he doesn't have a "badass hero" face on. He just sort of bites his lower lip in concentration, and it just looks kinda dorky and weird. A good example is when he disarms that taxi driver guy.To be absolutely 100% fair to ol' Steven, that IS probably more realistic. You wouldn't really care what your face is doing in a life-or-death situation, you would just be trying to rectify that situation as fast as possible. On the other hand, it does then clash weirdly with his, ahem, "acting" scenes, where he does the squinty low-voice badass thing anyway!

In that scene with the guys hopping around with swords, I think they're meant to be practitioners of Krabi Krabong, a martial art of Thai origin that trains the use of the sword (usually used in pairs) and what is typically called a sword-staff (basically a polearm that is essentially comprised of a large blade on a short shaft, shorter than a standard spear at least) but is most often portrayed in movies and other media as a sword-based art despite the said polearm usage also being part of the style. I don't know if those guys actually were trained in Krabi Krabong, but I assume they are at least emulating it to some degree. In other styles of Thai martial arts (you often see it in Muay Thai) the fighter sometimes picks their font leg up and I assume they could use it to block any potential attacks to that leg (I imagine it could also be used to maintain distance or to keep balance, but I could be wrong given my kicking experience comes from Taekwondo, not Muay Thai) so I think they are imitating that type of motion. To me they look like they might be overcompensating with that one, but again I'm no authority on that front. Sorry my spiel turned into a bit of a ramble, but believe me when I say I took effort to shorten this as much as I could. I also wanted to quickly note that although I don't recall having seen that aforementioned leg movement in the parent art of Muay Thai (called Muay Baorong) I imagine they must've had a similar technique of some kind present in that style as well. Anyway, I figured you might find the context interesting unless you were already fully aware, which I'm guessing you likely are. Anyway, thanks again for the content you create. :D

OOHH THIS MOVIE, I think I've seen this one partly. Oh GAWWD. The secret message part at the 8 minute mark is just straight up Seagal. Invisible ink naked lady telegram service is quite an...idea. How do you even pitch this in a script? I mean like, I know its a Direct to Shlock movie but did they do that to just pad out the time? It could have been a small bit of dialogue but noo she had to get naked and drip water on herself. Someone had to spend time detailing that message too. I think I remember the ending alot more than the middle sections in Seagal movies. The bow and Arrow and 3 bullet shooting section and the weird ass Voodoo Merlin and Buddhist monks helping out is certainly something I remember. His movies are just so entertainingly baffeling although I wonder what the production specifics and trivia are like on this one. Its a shame there's no documentary about how it was like to deal with Steven seagal on a daily basis and what kind odd ass wack shit he might say. The short introduction is nice although you could save the longer one for more longer material videos. Either way the intro and outro are great! Your Karate Kroner videos on Steven Seagal really distill the cream of the cream of his Shlock without having to sit around watching standard broadcast tv that it usually gets shoved onto.
@RedEyeReviews3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the view and comment my friend! Dude every single movie he has control over, he finds a way to look at a naked lady. It doesn't matter the plot. But yeah.. suuuuper awkward as always. Agreed. You can cut out like 3/4 of his movies and still totally understand what's going on. Thank you for the feedback. I think the shorter intro works better. But that's a great idea to use the longer one on a longer video. Thank you friend!

I know that I'm late to the party, but the invisible tattoo is probably inspired by the samurai exploitation flick 'Hanzo the Razor' from 1972. The characters of the tattoo raise up from the surrounding skin when exposed to heat or hot water, which is why she 'washed' herself to expose the message. It could be total bullshit, but that's how it worked in 'Hanzo the Razor.'

One of his weirdest movies after his career took a nosedive haha. I love how stupidly overpowered his fighting moves are in this and the Hong Kong movie influence that just doesn't suit Seagal in the slightest (also amusing that he's constantly slating other action movies as "unrealistic". I watched a clip of "Driven to kill" after this video last night and I wonder if this as the last time he tried to run on film? Keep 'em coming I find these videos hilarious. I'd love to see some Van Dammage or Chuck Norris reviews myself (his mullet and double denim in Hard Target are beautiful) but I enjoy your channel regardless cheers.

Well in the end nothing suits Seagal. He's not good at acting but he's too lazy to be good at fighting, be it real fighting or stunt fighting. Jackie Chan isn't the best actor (but so much more charismatic than Seagal, so it's insulting to compare them) but he's one of the hardest working actors combatants out there. The word "lazy" sums up Steven Seagal.

Pistol Wipped and Driven to kill were actually slightly better movies that he was in around 2006-2010 ish but I'm glad to see with his newer output he's gone back to making complete stinkers. He's got much better at fighting while sitting down in recent years though and I've noticed that he's now so powerful that he can fight Mike Tyson even though you can clearly tell that during most of the sequence neither of them are in the same room. I forget the title of that classic but it probably has either the word "hard" "kill" or "justice" in it. 8:16 "So can we all just agree that that was horrible and awkward and out of place, and just move on together as a group?" You forgot objectifying and degrading to women in general and to Asian women in particular. Moving on now. 12:48 "Dude, even in the widescreen, your face takes up, like, half the frame." - Epic quote by Redeye, circa 2022 Love your videos, by the way. I found your channel just yesterday and I'm now watching your content in no particular order (or in the order you put the videos in your playlists).

Love the channel! 2 suggestions. 1: More criticism about the gun handling, etc... Being a firearms instructor and sport shooter, I see a lot of rubbish gun stuff with regard to grip techniques, magazines capacity, terminal ballistics, etc... ! I am available for consultation anytime! 2: More gay stuff!

The shortened open theme is more effective, if you want me to see it. The longer one, I jst skipped, TBH. I can always see yr thumbnail., so, title sequences do no real good for me. Jsyk. Love the reviews, yr, killing it

So he has done a movie about his belly? What? I'm sure I've never seen it or don't remember it but below is the gist within my mind. "Hey, check out my belly, it's BEASTLY! Don't MAKE me UNLEASH the BEAST!" Some guy taunts Seagal "THAT'S IT! NOW you have done it!" Then Seagal undoes his belt, his belly bursts out flopping all about like jello with a jaguar fiercely roaring sound effect.

@@RedEyeReviews Into the Sun, Code of Honor, Attrition and Pistol Whipped are all watchable. But if you think Ticker was bad, just wait til you get to Attack Force, Flight of Fury, Today You Die and End of a Gun. Belly of the Beast will suddenly morph into a masterpiece.
