You' done right by this gem! I'm so glad that there was no half-arsing it. The peace of mind you'll get from doing the full rebuild will be well worth it. Not constantly listening for grinding noises leads directly to more enjoyment, in my opinion.

While I was in High School in the late 70's, my elderly next door neighbor had a Lancia Beta Coupe. I loved it. At one point I asked if he would sell it to me. He indicated he would never sell it to anyone who wasn't an Italian Mechanic or married to one. Not sure if I dodged a bullet or a wonderful adventure.

Great to see some of the restoration work, really impressed with your thinking on gauging the compliance of the springs and dampers to get something that is a true representation of the original set up. Ive driven a few of these and nearly bought an Evo 20 years ago and definitely agree that the factory set up is far better for every day driving than a many of the bone shaking hard lowered set ups.

Interesting on the springs and shocks. I had an '86 190E 2.3-16 - it was surprisingly softly sprung, but once you got your head round the idea it was arguably faster on most roads as it was so pliant and wasn't upset by lumps and bumps compared with a lowered and stiffened car.

While you were discussing your front struts/dampers at around 15:00 I noticed that the springs are completely different - one side has five coils and the other only three. Were these one front and one back? if both front that is a bit odd!

Nice! Re: CarPlay - you could throw a used Audi virtual cockpit in the dash and MIB-2, have someone like Alex at vag car coding remove component protection and code it up not have to worry about the heater/vent area. Kinda like the TTS/TTRS dash which doesn’t have a screen. Might need some extra modules for the mph and rpm to display though 😂 Just an idea.

What suspension did you put on it? Is it 4 way adjustable? And i noticed the standard air filter, are you going to change the throttle bodies? Also the fuel tank, to stop the fuel sloshing around and running lean on high boost corners? just remember the issues i had with mine, when driven hard through tight corners, unless the tank was full , it caused it to loose pressure, and run lean, i was running 350bhp without too much fettering, and that was when the car was at its best. Reduced the lag by 50 percent, if I had the car now, I would add a life racing ECU, with drive by wire, so it can be mapped throughout the rev range

You should contact Davide Cironi and see if he doesnt have contacts to help with the shocks and springs. I think the companys name is Scalenghe Ammortizzatore.

it might help the camshaft wear if they had a more softer peak approach. Probably give it more torque.
@felipe96150Ай бұрын
For the dampers, why not just get new Bilsteins? they will do the same job or better while the springs specs are in the workshop manual if I remember correctly. Edit: Evo 2 factory setup: - Front springs diameter 13.3mm+-0.05, 5,39 turns clockwise, 387mm height no load, 180mm height with 412dAN load. For springs with a yellow mark, that would be >180mm with 412daN load and with a green mark, that would be 156,5mm heigh with the 263daN load and green mark
