In the same circumstances they could and would. This song is amazing, a classic and nothing will change that. But music is a journey; why reinvent the past?
@fishboy91
@fishboy91 Жыл бұрын
I think we do not hear music like this much because society is in a lazy phase musically speaking. There is a constant battle between the virtuoso and the lazy. Centuries ago with the great composers, you needed to know a lot about music theory and then hone your craft for years until you reached some level of virtuosity. This took patience and hard work. That was a huger barrier to entry for some . As time passed there were orchestra's This is where each member of the orchestra, played small, succinct but highly coordinated parts. You had to play as a team with MANY other players. This took a highly talented musician even though each one played a much simpler part of the song. Another huge barrier to entry. In the big band era, you had the same problem...there were a lot of great and talented players playing a relatively simple parts but it all had to be highly coordinated. As you can see music was getting easier to play. Soon, you started having jazz trios and quartets. These were much smaller but still required a high proficiency of music knowledge. Then came the blues which inspired rock and roll. These are much simpler forms of music and soon you could not swing a dead cat without hitting some band practicing in some garage. Everybody was learning to play the guitar. As you can see music is still becoming simpler to play. However, then came the first guitar gods...Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton. They brought back virtuosity and craft to music. But the "lazy" musician did not like that and soon punk was on our door step, like Sex Pistols and the Damned. However, punk soon lost out to virtuosity and we had the second invasion of guitar gods like Eddie Van Halen, Kirk Hammet, Ywingie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert and more. However, yet again the "lazy" rose up and we soon had Hip Hop and Grunge. With Hip Hop you didnt even have to play an instrument or sing well. Today, you can "write" a song and not even play an instrument. There is so much software on the market a person can develop a song and not even know what a guitar is. Remember in the early days. Brad and Lex could not even identify what sound was coming from what instrument, much less name the instrument? People will start writing songs like this when the cycle comes back around.

Ben E. King recorded this shortly after leaving The Drifters in 1960. It gave him a solid reputation as a solo artist. "Stand By Me" was the name of a gospel hymn written by the Philadelphia minister Charles Albert Tindley in 1905. His hymn became popular in churches throughout the American South and was recorded by various gospel acts in the 1950s. The most popular adaptation was by The Staple Singers, who recorded it in 1955. It was this version that Ben E. King heard; he pushed The Drifters to record it, but the group's manager rejected it. After leaving The Drifters, King auditioned for the wildly successful songwriting/production team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, singing a few popular songs before doing what he had of "Stand By Me," which was just a few lines of lyrics with some humming to fill in the words. He agreed to collaborate on the song with Leiber and Stoller, who gave it a more contemporary sound and polished it into a hit. The bassline at the beginning was Stoller's idea. (Songfacts.com)
