23:48 One scripture for me is when Alma tells his son “Bridle your passions that ye may be filled with love.” I can’t think of a more counter cultural statement than that in our society. But as I’ve tested it, disciplining your thoughts and passions an living the commandments of God, does fill your heart with love.

My nephew Brandon was in England , and I don't remember exactly where in England. But long story short. Him and his companion were in their room to read some scriptures and pray then lay down for sleep when they both felt a presence in the room, and looked toward the door where they felt the whole room shake. And in the doors window was a face with red glowing eyes. And the evil that was coming off the entity ,left them both shaken and frozen in place. And I don't remember who said what to do, and maybe both said it at the same time. Let us pray. And as they were praying, they both heard a voice talk to them. Be of no fear, you are both protected. Lay ye both to sleep right now, and in the morning all will be well. So they both dressed for bed and laid down. Neither thought they would be able to sleep. And yet my nephew said they both went instantly to sleep. And on the marrow,. All was well , and peaceful. And neither was ever bothered again. Their prayers and faith in our father in heaven and our Lord Jesus Christ, and listening to the holy Ghost saved them. I love our father in heaven and Jesus Christ.

HOMERUN!!! This episode is so amazing that I have it in my queue to watch tomorrow. I am so passionate about the times when my wife, my daughter and I sit on the "Mom and Dad" bed that I have a difficult time falling asleep if we miss that time to be together. Speaking of depression, I'm 57 years old and have just been reborn. I have struggled with depression my entire life except for the last 6 weeks! What changed? I SURRENDERED.

I had a similar experience after my divorce and fighting for the rights to see my kids as my ex was trying to keep them from seeing them. I prayed hard or I cried mightily unto the Lord for help as this was a very hard divorce. after years of struggling with this and other related issues. I woke up early one morning filled with a deep feeling of gratitude and of joy for my afflictions and sufferings, this was a gift from God, and I praised the Lord for the sweet feeling that I felt the spirit left me after a few hours, but the feeling of gratitude has never left me. I still have many of struggles but I feel gratitude for my afflictions

Our prophets and church leaders share a strong testimony that they “know …”, and I am guessing they have seen Jesus and/or have had such a deep relationship with him that they can honestly say they “know”. It comes across so powerfully!

50:36 Our examination must not be to think of trials and difficulty as disfavor, but rather that our Eternal Loving Father has a lesson that He knows will help us grow into the individual He knows we can become. Instead please ask: O Father, what am I to learn from this affliction, infirmity, trial, that will bring me closer to thee?

Alma 32 is not just "the faith chapter" but it's also the knowledge chapter. It's not just teaching us how to have faith; it's teaching us how to KNOW. The witness of the Spirit is the greatest way to truly know anything. What greater witness can ye have than from God? Greater than our eyes, than touch, than any of our senses. People think they need to know by seeing or feeling, but those witnesses are not as sure nor as convincing as witnesses from the Spirit.

14:00 Amazing catch! I'm 47 and one of those men you discussed who had to struggle through an identity crisis and purpose crisis, and thanks to the best therapist and mentor in the world, the holy ghost, I got through it, and I did it by arriving at the same conclusion, that our identity is solid if we base it on something eternal: being a child of God. I'm so excited there's a scripture to back that up. But even if I had that verse during my crisis, it's really the holy ghost that enlightens our mind to the full understanding, so even if our best efforts don't land on the right scripture every time, the lord will give us the personal revelation we need, when we need it if we just exercise the faith and put in the effort. Still great reference! You guys are truly blessed with the spirit! Keep up the good work. We need your contribution right now more than ever!

Second podcast idea: The endtime servant spoken about by Isaiah, Christ, Joseph of Egypt, Lehi, Nephi, Joseph Smith, Orson Pratt, an old newspaper article from 1830 talking about the Mormon missionaries that showed up in their town and others. I can get source material over to you guys if you’d like it. Keep up the awesome job you’re doing. People I talk to really love your podcast. Hmm 24:33 You made me think of the meaning behind the menorah and how the different sacrifices people were to offer (a dove, a lamb, an ox) would be cleaved in two and separated (6 branches of the candle stick) and the priest would walk down the middle of the two halves to take the sacrifices upon himself, in a sense. The center branch, the seventh, is to represent THIS sacrifice, the High Priest, the Savior.

Thank you very much for this episode, I really needed to hear this. I have paused and replayed parts of the video dozens of times to read through the scriptures mentioned and to incorporate your comments into my study. You guys are wise beyond your years. In regards to your comment about Christ answering questions about suffering (~35:40). We are told several times in the scriptures to "endure to the end" (from Christ himself in Matthew 24:13). The definition of "endure" is to: suffer (something painful or difficult) patiently. The word "patiently" implies that we will eventually overcome (James 5:7-8). That fits right along with Ben's call out that through Christ we see that suffering is temporary (or impermanent if you want to use fancy English, ha). Great episode!

Awesome comments all around. I really liked this episode alot. One thought on Nephi shocking Laman and Lemuel--I never took it as L&L believing it was from God. I could be wrong but but I see it as their egocentrism being such that they won't allow themselves to believe it was from Nephi so they step it up to save face.

Love this. I think it’s interesting that no where does Jesus ever say “ you have to know…” all he says is “believe” Mark 5:36. He repeats this over and over again. I think we put too much emphasis on “know” and less on believe. Knowledge does not save us, only belief in Him. And once we believe, then our good works demonstrate that believe in Him.

@gwengold8154

I thought that the conversation about "knowing" was really interesting. However, I just completely disagree with your assertions. Imagine if the Prophet and first presidency and quorum of twelve members got up and testified that they believed but couldn't be sure that they KNEW!! Look at Nephi. He believed the dream/prophetic vision that his father had. But he wanted to KNOW for himself. And God gave him the same vision and even more understanding about it than his father had been given. Nephi tells his brothers that they could've asked and received just as he had. We are to liken the scriptures to ourselves. This tells me that it is not limited to ancient prophets and people who can have experiences that let them KNOW of God and of the things of God. We can seek and gain that surety also. And Jackson, it wasn't the surety that caused Laman and Lemuel to lose faith and regress their testimonies. Think of some early stalwarts of the church. Martin Harris. The Whitmers. Oliver Cowdry. Etc. They were SURE of the divine nature of the Book of Mormon. It was pride that brought them down. Not surety. If they kept a humble heart like Nephi and our prophet and many others, then surety can be a superb blessing and a help, and the surety and knowledge grow greater and greater until you are filled with light and intelligence.

Gotta say, I agree with this comment. I loved the entire discussion very much. I get why it can be a turn off to hear "I know" sometimes. So I thought maybe what we mean when we say "I know" is "I know in my heart". Spiritual knowledge is not intellectual knowledge. To know in your heart that the Savior loves you is essential going forward. If you don't know pray for it! Ask for and receive all the spiritual knowledge you can possibly get. When you start 13:20 it, you'll "know" why it is so important to know.

Great question, how do you know? I recently came across a list of my favorite scriptures. As I read them I reflected on the life experiences connected to them. Each one has had a profound effect on who I am , the blessings I have, the talents I have and the hand of God in my life. I know God answers prayer. I know he loves me. I know Jesus lives and suffered for my sins and my trials. I know life continues beyond this one, I know Joseph Smith is the Prophet of this dispensation, I know the Book of Mormon is a second witness of Jesus Christ, I know by magnifying our priesthood our bodies are renewed, I know that keeping our covenants and enduring well our trials we develop the traits of Jesus Christ, I know President Nelson is the Lords current Prophet, I know these truths and I know God knows I know then and I will not deny them

So do you believe God exists or do you know it? Do you believe Joseph Smith was a Prophet or do you know it? This was a very thought provoking episode. You guys are awesome! But I wanted to say that you shouldn't hide your testimony of what you know to be true. I will shout out from the roof tops that I KNOW this is the True Church of Jesus Christ! I KNOW that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God, chosen to restore the True Church on Earth for this last dispensation! I KNOW The Book of Mormon is True! And that abiding by its principles will bring any man or woman closer to God than any other book. To believe, has room for doubt. Knowing is without doubt. Keep up the good work! Love you guys!

We are not all children of God. We were created spirit children of God, but because of the fall, we are God's offspring but are no longer child heirs of god. The natural man is not a child and heir of god but is an enemy of god, foreigner, and stranger to the family of God until he puts off the natural man, yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and becomes a saint thru Christ and thereby becomes born again l, a child of Christ.

Depression is a precept of men who wish to explain spiritual matters without reference to God. To explain scriptural doctrine by reference to the precepts of men is to mingle them and thereby corrupt the doctrine. Don't do it.

Dude, hang on to that thought and come back to it when you have some more life experience. Depression isn't just a philosophical construct of the world. It's a real thing. When you seek answers from the Book of Mormon instead of the Bible, God can't help you because you have turned your back on Him. Therefore this leaves the door open for Satan (II Corinthians 11:14-15) to step into your life with a false christ or prophet showing you signs and wonders to lead you away from the real Jesus of the Bible who is God the Son 2nd person of the Trinity. God Himself warns us about this in: MATTHEW 24:23-24 "Then if anyone says to you, Look, here is the Christ! or There! do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect..." Mormons teach and believe that their jesus is the brother of Satan, which contradicts what God says in His Bible that Jesus is God the Son 2nd person of the Trinity. So Mormons, which Jesus do you believe in? A. Your jesus of the Book of Mormon, who is the brother of Satan. OR B. The Jesus of the Bible, who is God the Son 2nd person of the Trinity.

We read the Bible too. In fact, we dedicate two whole years every three years to studying just the Bible in church. In fact, pew research did a study on how well biblical religions understand the Bible and latter-day Saints came out on top among all Christians in comprehension of the Bible. Thanks for commenting.

How are we turning from Christ when the Book of Mormon does nothing but praise Christ and proclaim him the Savior and king of the world it doesn't give that title to another but Jesus. How can it be against God when it solely praises the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob and Israel. It even tells us to pray to God alone and ask him if it be true no one else. It ask for no other means or tells any other means to talk to God other then through pray which God made clear in the Bible. And most importantly the Bible canon was made by men years after Christ and his apostles died. And if you know Catholic history the one who claims descent from Christ himself has committed far worse heresy and crimes against God then even the LDS even in the modern day with the modern Pope lower the value of marriage while the prophet of the LDS proclaims it the most important command of God and it's sacredness second only to the devotion and loyalty to God and Christ.

@solisprime2669 How? Well if you took the time to read my post more carefully, you would have seen the main reason is that Mormons teach and believe that your jesus is the brother of Satan, which contradicts what God says in His Bible that Jesus is God the Son 2nd person of the Trinity. Next, the Triune Nature of God was already written in the Bible 500 years before the council of Nicaea. The early ancient Hebrew and Greek manuscripts show that. But there no linguistic evidence for the Book of Mormon.
