I've watched these videos a few times and the penny just dropped- the shaft is aiming swing path, with the face opening and closing to set the start line. I am genuinely excited to go and try this out. Thank you.

Hi Mark - thank-you for your kind feedback. Remember that when you “go round the circle” the shaft AND face go with you and then you use the path across that face to create the shape of the shot. Kind regards, Luther

I know filming technology has challenges but it has changed recently to allow ball tracing. I wonder if it is worth refilming these few videos to show the ball shape in flight. These videos clarify the fundamentals of golf so well. I like knowing why I am doing something as well as how to do it.

This sounds simple, but seems like it could be complex on a golf course without caring around a big U-shaped diagram on uneven ground. All position off by even an inch or more is an issue.

Wait, I don't get it. If I move around that circle, I'm just gonna hit the ball to the right or left of my target line. ?

Hi mrpush2532 - I understand your question. In practice the “radial ball position” might seem you are simply aiming right or left but it is also allowing the path to live across the face - it’s very subtle, as little as one dimple different! In doing this do we adjust the face of the club to slightly closed for draw or slightly open for fade

@@lutherblacklockgolfcom Hi Luther, although I haven't been able to practice as much as I like I am having some success with this method, one point is that I have to slightly close or open the face a bit to ensure I get the correct shape shot. Strangely my ball striking is better as there are less swing thoughts, cheers 👍

According to his famous book, his right leg was pulled back from the target line, a 6 iron was even, shorter clubs the left foot was pulled back . He never pulled his right foot back for the driver and hit a perfect fade every time.

Hi Ag - thanks for your feedback and comment. Please take a look at Mr. Hogan’s book - in the summary there is a small drawing with 13 balls opposite the left heel. It clearly shows that his toe line is closed with the Driver, square/parallel with the 6-iron and “open” with his wedge. It appeared that Mr.Hogan played all shots with a constant ball position, but due to his varying toe lines of open, closed and parallel, in practical terms Mr. Hogan used a “progressive” ball position.
