My local academy just started carrying Benchmade. I've carried Kershaw for years, but when I got my hands on the 580 I had to have it. i don't regret buying kershaws, but I do regret not buying my 580 sooner.

+InsaneBeagle i nearly bought a kershaw today with the special steel the discontinued, but actually went with the 580 barrage. only problem for me is the mini barrage was too small for my hand to be comfortable and the full size barrage is a bit big for my light duty edc. this is my first $50+ knife ive ever bought, so i may be bias

Carried one almost every day for ten years. And I abuse the hell out of it. Pry with it, use it as screwdriver. All the knife no no's. The barrage eats it all up and asks for more. I've taken scales off once and it wasn't as dirty as I imagined she'd be after all I'd put her through. I don't see me carrying much else for edc. I occasionally carry one of my Protechs or other Benchmades. But not often.

this is honestly amazing how well this knife performs.

ahh the wedge cut always makes me cringe. could never imagine doing that to my knife. but I guess glad to know it can do it.

I own a barage 580bk and can only say best EDC I have ever owned. The axis assist is just simply awesome and becomes one with me when opening. You will not be disappointed. The video shows how tuff it is but it's the smoothness that makes it so easy to open.

LOVE the new tests!!! That catra machine is really cool.

You can't argue with the truth. I never believed that a knife can go through a rib cage with such ease until I watched some of his videos. Also just the fact that people see that on a knife like the Recon 1 the blade will break way before the lock fails has sold millions of them world wide. There's a reason that every time you switch on your TV an ad is bound to pop up in the next 3 minutes. Visual advertising really is successful.

That's exactly what I meant bro. I was talking about filming the process. Because when you're testing stuff like that in a lab, it's one thing. But when you're filming it for the internet... that's when it gets interesting. Which is exactly why people who never saw him before think that Lynn is a crazy dude, chopping up pigs with broad swords and stuff.

I woudl imagine the holes in the table measure light or movement and as it passes each hole it gauges how fast its moving

I just picked up the mini version today. Seems really nice(as do all other Benchmades). I do wish it had some jimping though.

Thats BALLS to baton with a freeking hammer a thin pocketknife through a 2X4 !!! it had to chip and roll all over
@7duke7711 жыл бұрын
I have this knife, the 583 model to be exact (black coated, tanto, no serration) and it is awesome! I only wish the pocket clip allowed for deeper carry and that the handle was a bit "grippier" (just a little bit, I'll likely put some small bits of grip tape in the finger indents to help), otherwise this is one sweet blade.
@norcaltke85711 жыл бұрын
Benchmade. Hands down. I have only had one small chip on 3 of the Benchmades I own. Love it.

most knife companeis do testing just like cold steel, the only difference is Lynn has always been a marketing dude, just becasue hes the only person showing it doesnt mean hes the only one doing it
@AntonSemionov11 жыл бұрын
lol Which is exactly why I enjoy watching OTHERS doing it. I once batoned with my cheapo $10 framelock, but only because we were at a picnick and we had literally no other tool to baton with. I know that my folders will never fail with the way I use them and that's enough for me. So with that said, I totally agree with your thought.

Have you guys or anyone done a test like this on the 9101BK? I would love to see it.

In my head this series of videos started by some BM employees seeing some of Cold Steel's videos and thinking: "Damn good idea". And you know what? It really is a damn good idea. Keep it up BM. Oh... and cut up some pig carcases... it looks bad ass...
@AntonSemionov11 жыл бұрын
lol I actually don't remember watching that. A couple of days ago some tactical training organisation put up a video of them trying to destroy the lock by spine whacking it against steel targets etc. In the end they only managed to snap the blade by clamping it to the top of an 80lb steel target and using it as a lever to lift it on the hinge.I'll have to look through your playlist again to find that video where you break it.

Capability and piece of mind. I'd rather carry a knife I know can complete "fixed blade like" chores. We are all so used to our lives, our routine, etc. That said I do not even own a benchmade. I wish other manufactures would post videos like this. Props to benchmade.

I would love for this knife to have jimping, it's what's holding me back from buying. And second i'd really like for you to add a tip strength test.

lol meat man is my favorite, for years and year the rest of the knife community in way of manufactuerers saw his videos as some sort of cheap ploy to sell knives, but they all realize it sells knives...with youtube and other video outlets it makes showing tests to the mass public easier...so they do it, Im all for seeing knives in action its better than a movie, haha

A tip-strength test would be a GREAT video. I have the 581 Barrage and it is a little heavier than I would like for edc and I do wish the handle scales were all black and a bit grippier, without the two-tone styling. The M390 blade is a type of steel that is new to me but I feel confident in its abilities. I would like to know what kind of mallet hammer was used in this video. Was it solid steel or was it a rubber material? I'm too apprehensive about pounding my $200 folding knife with a hammer, but want to just to see how it holds up. :)
@allemander8 жыл бұрын
Would love to know the weight of that hammer!
@clarkliberty11108 жыл бұрын
+allemander it was rubber.

in my opinion, this demo doesn't show the very best that this knife can do. but still a good video

just bought a 580 after watching this video...
@cutlerylover11 жыл бұрын
lol are you saying that because I made a video breaking the blade off a recon 1 ;)
@AntonSemionov11 жыл бұрын
Yup, that's the type of video I like to watch when I'm bored. Someone destroying an overbuilt knife. It helps to be Lynn, unlimited hard-use knives to destroy. Also the fact that the handles didn't break explains why some custom knife makers are making last-ditch knives like push-daggers from G-10. TuffThumbs made a video of G-10 destruction test and that held up very very well.

Jimping on the back of the blade? With a file, sandpaper n stuff no problem DIY. I´ve done this with many of my knives, it takes a little time, some cigarettes and a "selfgratification"beer ;-)

I hate to be "that guy", but your knives are some of the dullest in the industry out of the box. This is first hand knowledge from owning 11 different BM models. Everything else about BM is great, except for their factory edges.
