@@MrCaissed There’s a ton of confusion about the proper heat treat in the community. Mostly due to the good Doctor himself who not only publicly disagrees with the data sheet on the Crucible website, but also skids over the fact that the steel is only balanced in a very narrow region bounded by a very specific Austenatising temperature/duration and a very specific tempering process followed by a very constrained cryogenic treatment. I’m convinced Benchmade is still not getting their heat treat on Magnacut right. I have seen reports of the steel rusting, which it shouldn’t do if heat treated correctly. It’s no wonder so many of their new blades in Magnacut come with coating, something that *should* be totally unnecessary. I am just speculating wildly but I think they know they’re not getting it right, but they keep rolling ahead with it because they intend to ride the hype train and make as much money as possible. I mean, I’ve seen commercials for them during major sporting events on network TV. They’re trying to go mega big time, and I think some aspects of performance and quality that knife guys like us care about are being left in the garbage bin. Personally I think they should stick to steels that they already do well, but I’m just some asshole commenting on KZbin so what do I know? But, man, that rattling molded plastic sheath on a $270 knife??? With no thumb push, and the clip doesn’t even retain the sheath in your pocket when you draw the knife??? Shameful.

You know, love him or hate him but JoeX has opened a lot of people's eyes with regards to steels. He's shown that most of the so called super steels aren't very super when stressed. It's actually the "budget" steels that perform the best there. The Cold Steel SR-1 light for instance, that 8cr13mov version easily outlasted the high end s35vn one. After testing all of these low end to high end knives he said AUS8 is actually his favorite most durable steel. Now of course the dude abuses his tools but I can't deny it's radically changed my views on "high end" knives.

Thanks for another informative and interesting review. Please measure the HRC soon! My Dacian with blue handle, fortunately, came with a sheath that locks my knife in like your blue cerakote version. I cannot shake it to get any rattle whatsoever. I feel bad you lost the end of your $270 blade. That had to hurt. I appreciate all the jimping but agree they could have stopped it a little earlier. I will be cleaning my next whitetail deer with my Dacian and that jimping will help significantly with all the fine work I will be doing. Inside your boot is okay but the best EDC carry position is the standard IWB (inside the waistband) concealed carry position used when carrying a handgun. The sheath is narrow and flat against your skin and will sit comfortably inside your pants with the very sturdy clip over your belt. Your shirt covers the handle.

As you’re an avid hunter, I have a question: did you feel that Steep Country model was not up to the task? The blade and handle are the same length as the Dacian and it has extended jimping and a full flat grind. Same HRC, lighter weight, and its MSRP is $180. I seriously wish you could look at them side by side and comment regarding what you think. I intend to use your thoughts in the next video about the Dacian. I mean, it almost fits in Dacian’s sheath. And, off course, thanks for subscribing!
@bradleyp144 ай бұрын
@@CuttingBoardRx I did not consider the Steep Country as I was looking for Magnacut steel. My selection came down to either the Dacian or MKC's new Speedgoat Ultra. I decided on the Dacian due to finding it for $63 less, and the fact the blade is stonewashed versus shiny silver which makes the Speedgoat Ultra look like one of my kitchen steak knives. I also prefer a thinner grip which the Dacian has over the Steep Country. For self-defense, the Dacian knife and sheath lend themselves to comfortable concealed carry more so than the Steep Country. I see the Steep Country with rounded grip and large orange sheath more of something to be tied to my backpack.

first thing I saw when I looked at it today was I knew that jimping was a super weak point and it runs the whole length of the blade, plus the sheath is horrible. If you have handled knives a while you can feel the index cut out is way to high compared to the belly (although for some knife geeks it will look cool) but I found that you had to exert way more than normal force to really lock that indexx finger in tight and thats a problem. Its a great looking knife and the actual blade shape is really conducive to every day tasks but it is over priced especially with that sheath, not even a pocket clip, and I have a bunch of the newest benchmades so I am not a benchmade hater.

I think the knife looks great with that blueish tone and brown micarta handles. But that sheet is terrible and not worthy a knife that costs 400 dollars (EU) . Also the jimping that goes all the way down the spine is stupid and makes no sense to me.

Как нож, почти за триста долларов, прямо сказать, не впечатляет, особенно ножны. Тот, что сломался, необходимо переделать в симпатичный варнклифф с кайдексными ножнами под него, будет конфетка)

That's not a design flaw. That's called user not understanding that lateral force, on a thin blade, will snap it. 😂. Anyone knows that will happen. You can't JoeX a small knife and expect it to survive.

@@JohnDoe-zb7dz no it's user expectations vs reality. It's like the guy that uses the wrong tool for the job and gets mad cause it doesn't work. It's so stupid that people expect 1 tool to do everything as good as specific tools for specific tasks. I know that I can absolutely beat the crap out of my WTG ARES. But I also know I can process wood with it. While my PM2 will break. But it will slice cardboard better than my ARES.

Here is the script for a video showing using the Dacian for its intended purpose: Scene: mom’s basement Dickie and Willie are playing Call of Duty. As the new game is loading, Dickie pulls the Dacian out of the sheath attached to his sweat shorts waistband. He says: “bro, check out this sick Benchmade pop gave me for my birthday!” Willie answers: “that’s rad, bro!” The game finishes loading, both go back to wasting their lives… Thanks for watching!
