@appalachiangunman95894 жыл бұрын
@@ksimpson2804 I think I like it better than the Benchmades. The thumb hole on the Spyderco isn’t the prettiest thing but it is once you start using it, I also love the compression lock. Another thing I like better is the thin tip. My particular Benchmade that I have has kind of a blunt tip and it’s not the best for piercing tasks. The PM2 with its thin taper and full-flat grind give it a tip that’s great for piercing.

I have owned both and prefer the PM2. Better quality control, nice broad full flat grind, great ergonomics, no springs in the locking mechanism that can fail, nice grippy g10, recessed full length steel liners on all models and a press fit lanyard tube that indexes the liners perfectly for a consistently smooth pivot and centered blade. the S110V PM2 I have at 28° inclusive Is a really wicked slicer and is my main EDC.

These are two of the best knives at their price-point on the market. I own both of them (and many others) but consider the utility from several angles. For overall utility, the Paramiltary 2 can't be beat. it is a very tough knife. I consider it a workhorse for the blade strenth and edge retention. However, it is a little too bulky for my comfort as a pocket too. The Benchmade Griptillian, on the other hand, is a much better EDC, in my opinion. It feels more comfortable in the hand, opens quickly with a flick, and can handle reasonably descent levels of every day chores. Both locks work very well. I like the Spyderco spine lock and feel that it is a bit superior to the Griptillian for really tough tasks that put a lot of stress on the lock mechanism. The Griptillian affords very quick deployment and it hasn't failed me yet. However, I'm not sure I would rely on it for high stress pressures in work situations. I love both knives, but my choicein which knife I would choose on a given day is more based on what I will be doing with it at the time.

Dear friends of KnifeCenter, Congratulations on your challenge! So, in my opinion, both are excellent, undoubtedly are the dream of consumption of all. The Griptilian axis lock is special for ambidextrous, but even so, the paramilitary 2 is unbeatable... my favorite! Unfortunately, here in Brazil, they arrive with prohibitive prices. Thank you for allowing me to participate, a big hug to everyone!

I have more than 1 Griptilian and carry different one depending on the activity. I love the Axis lock and different colors, like orange when I’m hiking, or blue or black at other times. Though others have talked about quality problems, I have not experienced it, the quality is excellent. The 154cm blade material used in base models is a big upgrade from knives I have carried in the past that wouldn’t hold an edge for a day. The 20cv looks like a great upgrade. I have no Spyderco knives but from the many positive comments, I will be checking them out.
@vcarvellas6 жыл бұрын
After collecting for about 6 years I finally added a PM2 to my collection. I own 7 or 8 each of Spyderco and Benchmade, and appreciate the advantages of both locking styles. To tell the truth, I hesitated buying a PM2 because it seemed like it might might be a little big to EDC. Moreover, it didn’t seem as compelling as something like Spyderco’s Vallotton (also a bit chunky for EDC) or as collectible as a Damascus Delica with jigged bone scales, for example. I have to say, however, that I couldn’t put it down. It felt so perfectly sized and mechanically solid, I carried it every day for a couple weeks, and I usually carry a different EDC every day. The Griptilian is certainly fast deploying and arguably more comfortable to hold with it’s more rounded cross-section, but the PM2 feels more like a piece of engineering. That said, I own a Hogue EX01 and it gives the big guys serious competition!

I own both of these knives and they are two of my favorites for EDC. I like the Paramilitary 2 better for outdoor use because I find the blade shape to be more versatile in a variety of different grips and the compression lock to be less prone to breakage than the Griptilian's axis lock (because of the the omega springs). However, I think the Griptilian is better for carry around the office because of its deep-pocket clip (on the G-10/20CV model) and more subdued appearance (i.e., it looks a bit less "tactical" than the Paramilitary). If I could only have just one, I'd probably go with the Paramilitary because it is a better slicer, but it's a very close call. Both are excellent knives.

The tip strength is less on the PM2 but it is a superb slicer. The Griptilian is a great knife for more all around cutting tasks because of the heavy duty blade profile. My daily cutting tasks are usually slicing so I usually carry the PM2 and prefer it for edc. Both are great knives that will last anyone a lifetime if not abused.

I have both knifes in an upgraded version, they are both such great knives. I would have to pick the griptilian (my personal choice would be the upgraded model) because of the deep carry pocket clip and a very very slight edge of the axis lock operating system. This is one very hard choice, that there is no loser here, only two true winners that all knife owners should have each knife.

So I would go with the pm2 upgraded version.

Thanks for everything! Until next order!
@AlfredoRGuillen6 жыл бұрын
I will go for the Paramilitary 2 every day of the week. Compression locks are safer, are ambidextrous, can be unlocked with gloves on and they don't accumulate gunk as the Benchmade axis lock does (they are way much easier to disassemble for cleanup purposes). Spyderco tolerances and quality control are superior to those in Benchmade models and prices are considerably lower. Blade in the Griptillian wobbles (horizontal blade play), grind is not particularly well achieved (inconsistent in both sides) and scales feel cheap. Hogue is out of this league as they produce beautiful kinves (heavy though) but still with quality control issues (blade centering, blade play, etc.). Paramilitary 2 or Para 3 are way much better option than Griptillian and Mini Griptillian.
@patricksmatrick61936 жыл бұрын
Funny, my Spydercos have just as much dirt built up as my Benchmades, so that's not relavent. I don't have a single Benchmade with an issue, grind, centering, lock up, and, I have sent far more broken Spydercos back for repair then Becnhmades. So after your done with your fanboy rant, put both brand's blade steels head to head and you'll notice that Benchmade comes out leagues ahead of Spyderco in terms of sharpenabiilty and edge retention. It's all in the heattreat and sadly Spyderco isn't there, even Buck has them beat.

I'm more of a Benchmade guy, but I do know that Spyderco makes a stellar product. It's hard to say one is better than the other when they are both well built tools. It really comes down to cosmetics because I don't want a hole in my blade and I do like the strength of the Axis lock. I've dealt with Benchmade customer service before and they are on it. I am currently dealing with them and waiting for an upgraded blade change on my full size 551 Griptilian. They actually said they would replace the 154CM straight edge drop point for an S30V straight edge drop point even though that isn't an option. I do like that 4" Hogue EX01 with aluminum scales. One thing that makes the Hogue EX03 the right knife for me is the glass filled polymer, single piece handle construction. This design provides several advantages. Such as strength and no screws, which ensures no issues with screws working loose. Another thing that stands out for sure is the blade edge. Although, similar to the other two knives mentioned in the video, the EX03 offers the one-handed closing feature and is designed to keep your fingers from having to cross the closing path of the blade. A disadvantage is the right-hand bias. Another disadvantage is the fact that the blade lock feature only applies when the blade is opened, not when closed. To some this doesn't matter, but to me, it detracts from the utility standpoint. A cosmetic detractor, to me, is the seam along the spine of the handle. I think if a little more time during the manufacturing process, it could be better cleaned up to the point where it would disappear, otherwise the attention to detail in the build of the EX03 is outstanding. So, it comes down to the handle construction. Otherwise, the other two knives are better in many ways.

I would certainly consider another one in one of the upgraded steels. I EDC a PM2 now. Looking at picking up a Griptilian. That 20CV G10 version is looking pretty sweet.

Spyderco! Been carrying an Enduro since early '90's and irreplaceable. Tried many different knives and always go back to Spyderco.

My first choice would be the Spyderco paramilitary for several reasons: first, because I already own a Hogue ex03 and love it; then there is the slimmer profile of the para and I prefer the flat blade grind. Also, I like lanyard holes and make use of them with tip up clip position.

I love them both but I prefer to buy the benchmade in the 20cv steel. One of my favorite steel.

Excellent comparison as always, DCA! As a user of the Spyderco Persistence, I also tend to like the Hogue EX-03 in this video. I like the ergos and the safety lock as well. Thank you!

I have a Para and I love it! If I'd win I figure two is better but since i have one I think I would buy the Hogue, something about it just speaks to me.

I would go with the Spyderco para military 2 or 3. I have had 2 Spydercos for over 27 years now and they cut just like they did the day out of the box. I also have a benchmade bugout that has axis lock and thumb stud that is on most of the griptilians. The Spyderco hole is much better for one handed opening than the benchmade thumb stud. Also since the axis lock has a visible spring I am always worried about it failing if it gets too dirty. The finger choil on the paras is also a draw for more control.
