Very helpful. Judging speed into bends & assessing how tight a bend is, is still something I am trying to master.......

Glad is was helpful to you. Go back to the over-riding rule of the 5 rules of good cornering. Being able to stop safely in the distance you can see to be clear, on your side of the road. Do this and the clues of reading the road are refinement. I'm sure we are all guilty of bending that a little at times, but it is excellent advice.

Thanks Matt. The 360 is very good, but have to use it sparingly as editing takes a long time.

Brilliant upload, Mike, really glad to see you're getting more comfortable with the 360 cam and your editing software. Just wanted to ask, I'm getting a bit stuck at the moment with Masters and use of the gearbox/timing of it. My Mentor picked up on an overusage of brakes and we put it down to using too high of a gear, however he is equally wanting me to use all the gearbox and use an appropriate gear to decel with, especially for corners. Obviously, don't want to mess up the system or use the gears to slow but I'm getting a bit muddled. Any suggestions you have?

Dan, thanks for the positive feedback. Regarding gears, I don't want to step on anyone's toes. 😉 Obviously, I don't know exactly what has been said. You can use all the box, where appropriate, and still be in too high a gear on the twisties. What bikes do you both ride?

If I might be so bold I'll offer you the advice I give to my students. BTW this works on any bike from a low revving HD to a screaming in-line four sports bike. Find out where the red line is e.g. 9000rpm. Divide it by three, the responsive gear is the one that keeps the engine in the middle third, in this example 3000 to 6000 rpm. In the bends this will allow you to use 'acceleration sense' by rolling on and off the throttle. However if you are on a road where you are maintaining a steady speed then you can select a higher gear (and lower revs) to relax to engine and ride in a more economical manner. Hope that helps?

@@mikeroberts He's on a big BMW K1600 and I'm on a Triumph Sprint ST1050. He has a significant amount more negative torque than I do in say third, where my third starts to become a rolling gear, so I need to use second for negative torque and positive acceleration

@@ItsBeenDanBefore Chat it over with them some more. Without seeing the situation it is hard for me to say, but maybe you are a bit late in shutting off? So in the right gear, but not allowing enough time distance for the bike to slow. Or it could be you are a gear too high in the twisties. It could also be you are just not changing gear often enough (just using the middle of the box). Getting the balance right needs to be for your bike (or the bike you are riding at the time). Good luck going forward.

Nice one mate. Good use of the 360 camera. I have two of them, a One R and a One X 2 that I occasionally post clips from them on my "RoadSmartBiker" channel (not up to your standard 😏). What are you recording sound on? I've not yet done any VLOG stuff but have considered it. I've got a Drift Ghost XL Pro on my helmet that I use for my CBT work but I could plug a mic into that.
@mikeroberts
@mikeroberts Жыл бұрын
Thanks. OK Chris, you asked! 😀 The footage is first shot using my Insta360 One X (the original, which is not waterproof, hence why all the footage is sunny!). The audio, bike/engine/gears is recorded with a mic in my helmet connected to a Drift Ghost HD. Then the work begins. First I stitch the Insta360 footage together using Insta360 Studio to produce a 360 format MP4 video file. Then I sync that with the Drift audio and trim the audio to exactly the length of the 360 video file. I then inject the audio back into the 360 file, replacing the original audio. I do this so I can then use the 360 footage in Insta360 Studio to produce flat video clips without having to try and sync the audio of each small clip individually. The flat clips are then assembled in PowerDirector and voice over added using audio recorded with my phone. The graphics are a whole other thread! 😲 I have noticed a few audio squeaks/whistles appearing on KZbin that I didn't notice on the originals, so will have to investigate. Live recorded commentary videos are so much easier to edit with just the Drift!
