I do love joslins marana shoes. They fit my foot shape perfectly. They last for a lot longer than any other shoe I've tried. I suppose they do take a bit of time to break in but they still skate well for me fresh outs the box. Vans and some others creat a weird pressure point in my foot when breaking in that causes real pain and makes it difficult to skate and not get hurt compensating for the weird foot pain. Just my two cents on my experience. Love your informative vids

@@ninmoron3150 I have the Westgate 508s and just got some 440s as well. I haven't skated either yet. They look too rad to ruin yet. I think the 440s would hold up better. The 508s are extremely comfortable. The 440s are stiffer. There is more rubber on the sides of the cup sole on the 440s. It's pretty minimal on the 508s. Someone else mentioned that the heel is lose on the 508s. Compared to the 440s, I think this is true. The 440s seem to lock in your heels more. The 508s seem to have more board feel in the sole. I think they are thinner. The 508s have a single piece of rubber for the sole. The 440s have two. The 440s seem like they are pretty darn durable. It seems like they would take more breaking in. The 508s seem like they wouldn't require much break in at all. Also, the 440s sole seems to stick out more on the sides. I think maybe it's that way to prevent rolling your ankle, or maybe it's just the fact that the rubber on the side is beefier. They seem pretty damn durable to me. The ones I have are the black ones with the gum sole with suede. There are others that have more leather. Same thing for the 508s. I'm thinking the leather ones would probably hold up better. The rubber sole on the 440s seems pretty tough too. This is just my impression. Your mileage may vary. I haven't skated either of them yet. Overall, I think the 440s would hold up better.

Only a couple of shoes have ever done this, but I think the idea is to have the support of a cupsole in the heel, and the flexibility of a vulc in the toe. Seems like a good idea on paper, but whether it's ever been executed properly I couldn't say.
@PHeMoX
@PHeMoX 3 жыл бұрын
@@carlyle6071 I own those Kyle Walker Pro 2s and skated them and wouldn't say they are a cupsole. Or hybrid for that matter. They're mostly just a vulc skate shoe with a heel that doesn't suck. For me it definitely wasn't the perfect hybrid. Mostly because impact protection is very mediocre. And they have overdone the whole boardfeel, as you will get hurt in primos. The other thing that sucks is how durability is just very average to really kind of weak IMHO. And the flick is pretty much like any other Vans skate shoe. Plenty of people will like that, but plenty of people won't. You're better off finding one of the more thin cupsole skate shoes if you want a more genuine best of both worlds experience.
@PHeMoX
@PHeMoX 3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelgrier6365 It's not a good idea in practice. Mostly because the flexibility of the skate shoe is not always a good thing. Extra support in the heel area is nice, sure. But it doesn't help much if underneath the front part of the feet, impact protection is zero. And that's really the biggest flaw of any hybrid. You actually _don't_ want to feel every minute detail of the board under your toes. It's more useful to have a flick feeling that doesn't feel too heavy or too disconnected.

Cupsoles all the way! I like the look and idea of vulcs, but I'd rather go for durability and support, because the boardfeel and flex comes fairly quickly in most modern cupsoles. Marana, Joslin (1 & 2), NB# 1010, Silo SC, Quattro, Evant, and Dunks are my primary cupsole recommendations!

I can't recommend the eS' Accel Slims enough. Cupsole, a little on the thinner side, but with the STI insoles they come with, they really don't hurt on hard lands or primos.

Any plans on releasing a Westgate 308 review video? I enjoyed the feel of the shoe, but maybe due to how I ollie, they would burn through my shoe lace within a weekend so I had to retire them. If you want to try some cupsoles, may I suggest the Nike SB Forces 58, I think it's their new model and they fit me perfectly so I think I've finally found my go to shoe. They have a similar sole as the Nyjahs, but the shape of a dunk.

I'm assuming you mean 508? I think they should put a leather or suede strip along the top side. My ollies wear there, but, maybe it's just because I'm not that good. I've noticed that the 440s look like the laces are further up and presumably will get shredded less. And the rubber on the side of the cup sole looked thicker compared to the 508s. I have some 440s on order. Interested to see how they compare.

Not necessarily a skate shoe but I really love the Adidas sambas. The design works really well for me. I have a heavy preference toward cupsoles and the more "soccer" shoe design.

I've been using those too. A big advantage is you can find them on sale on Amazon for $39 from time to time. Almost half the price of most of the skate shoes I've seen. The upper part of the shoes is pretty durable. It would be nice if there was a bit more rubber on the side, though that hasn't really been an issue for me so far. The weak point is the pattern on the soles (I don't like the circular suction cups, the tread in the back wears out in the heel from walking also). I've been wearing through them near my big toe. Next pair I start, I want to fill in the cracks in the treads with shoe goo. If you look at Adidas skate shoes you can see that a lot of them are just modified soccer shoes that they had previously. Also, the good thing about Sambas is that they have been around for decades and they don't get phased out like other shoes. If the rubber on the soles was filled in a little more, I think those shoes would be virtually indestructible. Certainly, for non-skate use.

For me, I've always leaned toward cupsoles that are fat up top and slim down towards the bottoms. The DVS comanche 2.0s are the closest I've seen to perfection for me plus you can find crazy deals on them

I've started skating a pair of Marana's, I've only ever skated Vans and Nike Blazers before now and I go through them. in no time at all. I guess I skate a lot but as much as I love the board feel of Vans and the look of the shoes (Half Cab and Classics all the way) I just can't be buying shoes as often as I have, it's both expensive and ecologically terrible, I do try to always patch up shoes with shoe goo so I can get some wear out of them even when they have holes in the soles but even so. The feel of the cup sole is indeed very different, at first I hated it, I couldn't feel my board at all, but gradually it's coming back and I'm getting used to it. Durability so far has been good, we'll see how they last longer term.

That switch heel line was perfect. I like cupsoles more than vulcs, vulcs are good for skating the park though. I really feel like its easier to switch to cupsole from vulc than vice versa though, tere's something about the extra support that you get used to. I'm on my eigth pair of Elijah Berle's which is a cupsole with no insole. I switch to the NB Jamie Foy's if I wanna skate a rail or transition with a little extra confidence and boardfeel.

I usually have 2 pairs of skate shoes in rotation. My favourites are the Lakai vulcs and the Etnies Maranas. The vulcs have incredible board feel and flick but little impact protection. The Maranas have better impact protection, super durable but less consistent flick in my opinion. I usually pick a shoe for the type of skating I'm going to be doing that day. If I'm planning to hit stair sets I'll bring out the Maranas and if I want to do more flatground tech or vert I'd go with the Lakais.

Adidas matchbreak super in suede are probably my favorite shoes ever (I've been skating over 20 years now). They look fairly simple but the small details really make them perfect for me. Worst shoes I've ever tried skating, I'd have to go wayyyy back... Gershon Mosley "GMOS 4" globe shoes... it was like wearing bricks on your feet. I think they became my lawn mowing shoes pretty quickly lmao.

I have skated Shane’s and they are too good, so flexible and sticky, they feel great but once they are old, are so tiny and primos hurt a lot. I think cup soles have less board feel and grip, but they last longer. In my personal opinion, I’m down for vulcanized

The older I get the less "feel" the better. I get more tired with less absorbant shoes. I used to think it was the size of the wheels but I was wrong. It's DEFINITELY the sole of the shoe. Lately I've been skating a standard pair of Air Force Ones and I feel like I'm a teenager again. I'm not getting super tech with these but I last WAAAAY longer compared to shoes with less impact.

Best cup sole I’ve ever skated was the Reynolds g3 from emerica. Tragic that they don’t make it anymore, perfect impact protection, great toe durability, not a lot of board feel but the shape was so flat and pointy that it didn’t matter to me. Best toe and heel flick of any shoes I’ve ever had too.

I have New Balance 508 that I won't skate. The heel is too low for me. I don't like vulc shoes. I tried Nike SB Blazed Mid and adidas Busenitz Vulc. I didn't appreciate long sessions with them. I'm more confident with cupsoles. Favorite models: adidas Busenitz Pro, éS Accel (with heel pads), éS Accel Plus.

HELP PLS So first of all i wanna Cruise around like in the city just vibin u know but also wanna do flip tricks and later bowls and park So I got a few Questions appreciate it if someone answer Are those the right Trucks sizes for the deck size? I’m lowkey confused 8.25 Deck= Indy144 and Thunder 148 8.50 Deck= Indy149 and Thunder 149 what wheels are the best? many Skaters told me to buy spitfire F4 or Conical Full 99A but they also said in the beginning I only need to cruise around to get comfortable on the Board but for cruising around wouldn’t it be better to buy softer wheels? Should I buy Indy’s or Thunder? because Indy are made in China and thunder not u know and I heard those 2 are the best If I buy an 8.5 deck let’s say with thunder 149 can I ride 54mm wheels or do I get wheelbite? Sry for so many questions

I gravitate towards vulcanized shoes. Currently skating a pair of Globe Surplus. They're probably one of the best pair of vulc shoes I've ever owned. On the other end of the spectrum is a pair of New Balance 212's. They are a major disappointment. Uncomfortable. My whole body hurts after wearing them . I haven't had a pair of cup soles in quite a while. I'm not a fan of the bulk.

Ben, if you review more cup soles, can you do a review of the New Balance 440s? I have the 508s too. I have some 440s on order. It looked like they had more rubber on the side compared to the 508s. On an unrelated note, I was thinking it would be cool if you did a review of cruiser wheels. I recently got some Mini Logo AWOLs (80A 55, 59, or 63mm) and what a difference it is cruising around on asphalt. Drastically faster and smoother. You do way more flip tricks that me, so, maybe you just wouldn't like cruiser wheels, but like I said, what a difference for cruising around. I'm glad I tried them. It's a blast just carving around on them on hills or anywhere else.
