Dear Sandra…thank you for your insights about cloisonne-enamelling; we are trying to work on watch-dials with silver-wires. I wonder how you treat them during first firing regarding their oxidation…

Great video. For the dragon, would the bezel for the stone be embedded in the enamel? If so, is it taller to allow you to set the stone?
@sandramcewen2 жыл бұрын
The enamel wouldn't be strong enough to hold the bezel- you'll want to either solder the bezel to the base or use a cold connection (rivet) after all the enameling has been done... :)

Hi Sandra! First, id like to say that your work is absolutely incredible, and I love your voice, and overall teaching style. I am a boro worker for many years, and an instructor a few times a year at the Corning Museum of Glass, and enameling has always been a love of mine, which, after seeing your work, has been completely rekindled in me, and I wish to know more. I was wondering if you have a video explaining the "everything you must have" tools to get started. I know that when I started doing glass work, there were a ton of tools that they tell you you "need", that you really don't to get started, and some stuff that would be really convenient, that is kinda forgotten about. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

can you talk about the sticky paper you are attaching your wires to before attaching to metel?

It's just regular double-stick tape... :)

Hi Sandra, I am sure it's right in front of me, but I have watched most of your videos (and learned so much) But I can't seem to find anything about how you go about creating/forming the silver bases for your pieces. Can you point me toward the relevant video? Thanks

Hi Kate! I don't have that at the moment, but it's on the schedule for next month- I'll have a full tutorial about making a small champleve pendant from start to finish. It will be on my Vimeo On Demand page: vimeo.com/ondemand/sandramcewen/

Could you please make a video about how you make your metals ready? I have problems with getting the silver or copper really ready so the water dosen't bead up on the surface.

Hi. There are some Ricky Frank videos which address how to prep the base metal.

How do you place straight lines? Can you explain that to me?
@sandramcewen6 жыл бұрын
The trick to making straight lines is to incorporate them with some other shape, so they will not tip over. Two parallel lines could be one U shape, for example. Or add a bendy bit at one end... Good luck!

I would really love to learn how to enamel. Could you make a video on how to come up with designs? Demonstrate how much detail is too much? Explain what the limitations are?
@sandramcewen5 жыл бұрын
Hi Matthew! I don't have that specific video yet, but I do have a lot of tutorials on my Vimeo page: vimeo.com/ondemand/sandramcewen/ Also, if you find yourself near Raleigh, NC, you should come do a workshop! www.sandramcewen.com/learn There's nothing better than just having someone show you in person how to do something... Good luck! :)

@@sandramcewen Ok. Good to know. I repair clocks professionally and am working my way up to clockmaker. I would love to incorporate enamel work into my clocks. I am restoring an antique, mechanical singing bird box for myself and it original had a piece of enamel in the lid. I would love to recreate a replacement for that. If I am able to come take a class, I would like to use that time to attempt a piece to use on my bird box. I will, for sure, keep your workshops in mind. It may be another year before I am able to make it work.
