If you had told me 4 years ago that I would NOT be alone in France but rather the two of you would be LIVING here, I would have eaten my shoe. Fortunately nobody told me that 4 years ago, so my shoe will remain uneaten. (The house is even more beautiful in person let me tell you!!)

@@Booboonancy ; - D Your comment cracked me up! I had a similar reaction when I saw the "before" of her son Nathaniel Drew's apartment that she helped him change because to me it looked like it had already been redone recently (I do prefer the "after" though!). But actually I really admire people who are willing to spend the time and money to make their home truly their own. I've felt low-key tortured by certain things in my apartment for over TWENTY YEARS because it felt "wasteful" to change them, and in retrospect it would have been so worth the money! I'm sure there are people who are truly indifferent to aesthetics, but for me, being in surroundings I personally find beautiful feels soothing and inspiring. And the opposite is like a low-grade itch I can never fully scratch!

The house is beautiful and I think if you have the money, creativity, dream and energy for these projects, then go for it. As a minimalist, keeping it small and simple is where my husband and I are at. I am sure your sons are thrilled.
@justhere3794
@justhere3794 8 ай бұрын
For sure agree with minimalism. I downsized and donated many items in order to go with the minimalist culture. It was a relief. Now I have a lovely home that sparkles and is mostly white decor. No ornate antiques anymore. Although their house is nice and reminds me of how I used to have one similar to theirs I am so glad I chose the path of small and minimalist. If I get together with family it is fine and we usually aren't into big family meals. We go to venues and drink coffee or tea after at our homes. New era and glad that I am progressive that way as I do not like clutter or collecting momentos either. My son sold his large home and downsized to a luxury high-rise apartment overlooking the gulf. My family does not care about large homes as we did all that back in the early 2000s and 1990s. We have money so it's not because we can't afford it but mostly we like the minimalist culture and the ease of moving around to other homes if we feel like it. To each their own.

@@jasminealixandranorthWhat exhausts me is needlessly judgmental comments that rain on other people's joy. Tacking the French equivalent "but to each their own" at the end of it doesn't make it any less icky. < : - (

@@bellaluce7088 She was not being judgemental but stating an opinion. When a person decides to put their personal life on KZbin people are going to comment. None of this really matters. We are all just passing through for a short while. Everything is borrowed. You had a perfect home in Oregon in the most stunning setting. I have the feeling that once this is all done, in a couple of years you will grow bored again and start the whole process over again, somewhere else. Love your dog though, and hope you spend more time in nature - instead of obsessing over the mundane. As you say in your introduction about yourself - it's about the 'internal' not the 'external'. All this materialism and need/desire for so much stuff is really not what it's about. It's a weight. More to clean, insure, dust and on and on. Could be lost in the blink of an eye by fire or theft or a multitude of other life occurrences. Sometimes that wisdom comes with age. “We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like.” Favorite part of the video - the garden and your most precious little dog who I hope is getting the love and affection he/she needs amidst all of the chaos. I recently lost mine - and despite being a minimalist for decades, it really reminded me that inanimate things mean absolutely nothing - and are just that - 'things'.
@cw6778
@cw6778 Ай бұрын
Agree, happiness doesn't come from external objects, even though it appears to. For a couple so in to personal growth I cannot believe they can't see they are just repeating what they did in the United States ie. buy a big house and make it look beautiful and then a few years later wonder why it hasn't made them happy. Then think the solution is to move somewhere different and do the same again.......How long until they move to Spain?
@gailalbers1430
@gailalbers1430 Ай бұрын
well, from that perspective really nothing material matters and should they now move to a cave in the Himalayas ? Interior design is literally an art and she is an artist, a designer a creative. That is the point of this video . If they in the future want to move on and do it again, after getting top euros for this one - that is fine. It’s 😅bivous that a lot of fun and excitement is had by everyone involved in this creative process. Okay isn’t it materialistic to expect to stay in the same house for ever, if the process of designing it , is what really floats your boats ? just saying …🎉❤😂

If you are watching it for ideas, art and design then it’s great, I have no problem with it (or buying and selling houses for profit, or living in one!). I was watching with the content and feel of what I’d seen on the rest of channel in mind. With its themes of self growth, change and the internal world. Just read the channel description, It’s everything this wasn’t. So the difference between the two seemed jarring to me. Perhaps she should have her own channel and keep the design separate?

I love how you discuss the difference in your energy levels. Very interesting! Have a look at a concept of “Human Design” - there are 5 main types of energy levels and you two fit perfectly into the so called “generator” or maybe even “manifesting generator” for Cecilia- those non stop type of ppl who like the generator bunny have amazing stamina to get stuff done. “Projectors” types on the other hand, like Josh possibly, are the more managerial, supportive types who need more rest and down time. It’s not surprising then that Josh cannot keep up with Cecilia’s energy, nor should he try! I recognise this pattern very well because I am a projector and my husband is a workaholic generator! I also have my moon in Cancer so can totally relate to Cecilia’s nesting instinct and having to live in beautiful surroundings. ❤

To be honest I find all this "I must have this design of taps and I must have that exact design of rug in that particular place and this item by this one unique designer very,well it goes against the ideas deeply inculcated in me in childhood which as I've been rejecting and throwing them off for decades shows how deeply embedded they are. Maybe it also shows the difference between the USA 'you can have it all" life credo and the older Brit credo of " you'll get what you're given and be grateful".

I'm happy you've figured each other out - Cecelia with her passion/drive to get things done and you, with you supporting her, but admitting you like breaks. I'm like you! It's maddening to me to see such a nice kitchen and her wanting to change it - and pretty much everything else! I'm in love with your home, as is. But I'm sure after all of the madness, it'll end up being another masterpiece. And so it goes.... enjoy the process. And each other through it all!

The frugal part of me saw dollar signs when she talked about things like replacing the kitchen counter and fridge, but I actually wish I had her comfort spending the money to really personalize my home! Being surrounded every day by things that are beautiful to *you* adds so much subliminal and conscious joy to life, especially if you're an artist. And the opposite is also true, as I've learned to my regret after being low-key tortured by the "good-enough" drapes in my house for 20+ years! I wish I'd had Cecelia's boldness when I moved in, and I can't wait to see her vision come to life. I agree with you that it's sure to be a masterpiece. : - )

If you plan to create more skylights (fenêtre de toit in French) : before doing so, you must ask for the authorisation at the Mairie (the townhall), service urbanisme. Otherwise they put a very big fine on you. In France, whenever you need something uneasy to get, il is much better to speak directly with the people in charge. It is very nice to follow your adventures which have brought you in France. but I have not understood where you have settled in the Yvelines. Local people must be quite different from those in Paris. So I hope you have found the right words to introduce yourselves to socialize as newcomers from the USA in your local area (people from Canada wouldn't have to think about it as they are considered as our "cousins"). Cheers and welcome . Bon courage pour apprendre notre belle langue

Absolutely love the house, thank you for the tour. Amount of upgrade that you plan scares the shit out of me though. Hope you two get some chill and rest time actually doing nothing and staring at the trees from your patio. You absolutely deserved if after these long months of search ❤

Goodness, I love the tiles on the wall in the kitchen, and the hardware. I could even live with the countertop, but it will be interesting to see how yours comes out!,

Congratulations on your beautiful home. If you're still trying to round out the baskets, may I suggest filling them with sheets or towels. Stuff them as much as you can, super full, until you get the shape you want and let them sit like that until they stay firmly in the round position you want. Hugs, Carolena

Love the house. It's great to see it coming along. Cecilia is a creative whiz. I too need a break when I'm doing a project. I find during those times when I'm resting or walking the ideas I need to move forward just pop into my head. When I slow down I seem to make better decisions. I know you'll find what works for you. Can't wait to see more 🥰

Cecilia, use all the paper you had lying around and wet it with alcohol. Remember the days when we needed to reshape or stretch our shoes? Good luck with the hampers.

The kitchen is gorgeous why change? The dark blue is beautiful! 🤔 but I guess if you have the budget to put marble, why not! if you bought an ancient rug only to put it in kitchen to step on? Wow the $$$$ you guys must have to buy all these pieces of furniture and Italian chandeliers 🤯.

Fill the laundry bags with gravel and leave for a few days after a gentle spray of warm water from the shower spray . Don’t soak it just dampen them . The gravel is heavy and will push the laundry bags back into their shape.

Maybe the laundry basket can be "blocked" somewhat like a wool knit piece. Use a gentle laundry soap, place the basket upside down over a form and let it dry,I am sure she has been successful at forming the basket already, but just in case!

"ask me in six months" YES I think you may be right, especially with your (Cecelia`s) exacting standards. You may be both in for a very rocky road with many disappointments and huge frustrations with French builders, plumbers electricians etc..Advice-keep cool, keep smiling and make friends with ALL the people around you working on your beautiful home.BONNE CHANCE!!!!!!!

Cecilia, use spray starch along with your steamer or iron as you try to shape your baskets. The fabric needs more body in order to hold. Good Luck & Best Wishes in your new home! 😊👍

We see that Cecila is American. We know that American houses are generally very large and putting wood inside makes them more cozy and intimate, but our French houses are generally smaller, with smaller rooms, and putting wood in them quickly makes them stifling and dark.
