Anna Huxley because it has a super dry sponge glued to the bottom side rim. You can tilt the cup slightly to show nothing is inside. Just don't show them the inside. Get your royal cards and the aces. Lay them out in 4 diagonal lines like an x with nothing in the middle. That's for satan. Lay them out k,g,j,a. Collect the cards facing up. Cut the deck 3 times. And lay the cards out back in line in a clockwise fashion. Someone has fixed the order.

The bottle is filled with water to the very lid, leaving no air inside. At the start he opens the lid slightly to allow a bubble to get in, so you can see the bottle is full. When he slowly slides the bottom off his hand, the water doesn't get out because there's almost no air inside, so there is a vacuum the the water remains sucked into. To release the water, he squeezes it so it gets pushed out, and immediately stops so it doesn't get given away. As for the cup, there's a sponge in the bottom, so it appears empty.

That's not how water works! I mean it is how water works, but only in smaller spaces the hydrogen-bondning cling to the surface so strong that the water stays in place. Like how a drop of water can stay on the window without falling. BUT no way all that amount of water is not going to fall through with the radius that big! The trick is probably in the design of the opening of the bottle. They've probable constrained/ blocked the opening with a different cap which could open one way, when he applied a little pressure.

Cavers A drop of water doesnt fall because of surface tension. What is happening here is the same phenomenon as when you dip an entire straw inside a soda bottle, block the top end with your finger and then take the straw out. All the liquid in the straw stays where it is. But when you lift your finger, air can come into the top and the liquid falls back out from under

Surface tension is made by hydrogen-bonding which is a very strong molecular bond. So the molecules are able to hold on to eachother without letting go like a water drop. The bottle trick wouldn't not work with an open bottle though. Water in a straw would work because of it's small radius and small amount of water. The molecular bond is not that strong that it can resist the force and weight of the entire volume of a bottle pushing down. The opening of the bottle must have some kind of constraint. That is why Cumberbatch had to stand behind the desk. Because the bottle opening with the constraint must not be shown to the viewer. It is only shown from the side and not any other angle. Try doing the same trick with a normal bottle yourself. It will not work.

How I think the trick was done :) ~bottle~I think he was simply using the surface tension of the water to keep it in the bottle, and when he squeezed it it was only a temporary disturbance in that surface tension, but it came out a little too quickly so he had to flip the water bottle right side up. It's like how you sometimes have to hit the side of those big water coolers when they aren't cooperating. ~cup~For the red cup, my science teacher did the same thing using sodium polyacrylate (it's used in diapers to soak up water. fairly easy to buy), which absorbs the water and becomes a sort of thick, gelatin-like substance. You can see him squeezing the cup a bit to ensure it doesn't fall out. It's also white so when you quickly show a small bit of the inside of the cup, it isn't really noticeable.

It's physical chemistry. Just a simple phenomenon called "surface tension". As soon as the bleecker "magician" puts the palm of his hand on the beak of the bottle FULL of water for a few seconds, the force between the water molecules gets stronger. So, he slides the hand very slowly to not break the bond between them at the surface (top of the peak) and finally, the water doesn't fall down. When he throws the water into the cup, notice that he does it very quickly and he throws a SMALL amount. Then he squeezes the cup; all those 3 things due to reinforce that bond of the molecules (that was created before) and again, not letting the water fall down. Strange seems more nervous at the beginning (when he turns down the bottle) because it's at that point when he creates (by covering the peak with his palm) the tension that still, will remain after throwing the water in the cup. First baloon animals and then, bottles of water. What exactly is Houdini's job description?? So I guess I'll have to explain Science in this one. When he removed the cap/seal the air in the atmosphere entered in the bottle. Now, when he quickly put his hands up on the bottle and flipped it, the air got trapped in the bottle between two surfaces 1. Benedict's Palm & 2. Water. The air being of lower density than the water cannot possibly stay below the surface. Due to convective currents. So when he flipped that bottle, air exerted pressure on the water in order to reach to the top which held it upto some time. And then when the air syccessfully travelled back to the top of the flipped bottle, the water finally released into the cup.

Brodie Kinsela there is a thin mesh screen in the mouth of the bottle, which caused air pressure to hold the water in, until he squeezed and tilted it. As for the cup, there was a small amount of super absorbent polymer which gelled the water almost instantly and allowed it to stick to the bottom of the cup.
