In this episode, I explain the major categories and types of peptides currently in use for therapeutic purposes. I discuss peptides for improving tissue rejuvenation and repair, promoting longevity, improving muscle growth and fat loss, and boosting mood, vitality, and libido. I explain the biology of how these peptides work and both their potential benefits and risks. I also discuss peptide sourcing, dosages, cycling, routes of administration, and how peptides work in combination.
This episode will help you better understand the rapidly expanding landscape of peptide therapeutics and how to evaluate if specific peptides might be advantageous towards achieving your physical or mental health goals.

I'm 42, have been prescribed benzos for insomnia since 14. my life was falling apart. Your first 3 episodes on sleep allowed me to fix a life long problem in days. No drugs, no benzos, its been 3 years. You saved me from the depths of insanity. I have recommended you to countless friends and will continue to do so. I owe you a debt of gratitude. Thank you.

@@monicasomesan2432 Absolutely! Getting sunlight before 8am and then getting light into my eyes during sunset. This was a game changer and effectively reset my circadian rhythm within days. I've always been on the computer until late at night / early morning. For the first week I didn't use my PC after 7pm and got to bed by 10pm. Since that first week I have never had an issue with sleep again. I can work until late at night / early morning on my PC and so long as get light in my eyes in the morning and evening on most days I never have sleep issues. Its sounds ridiculously simple and it was. The experience left me with complete disdain for the pharmaceutical industry, I can't count the number of drugs I have been prescribed for issues related to the problem both directly and peripherally. I take no need for any drugs anymore. I can see why they want to destroy this man and its disgraceful. He has lifted the vice like grip of big pharma on my life and countless others.

@@monicasomesan2432 I've tried posting a response to this question 4 times. For some reason it keeps getting deleted after a few minutes. I apologise if you see multiple responses. To answer your question; get sunlight in your eyes first thing in the morning, preferably before 8am then do the same at sunset. It sounds so simple. It is. This practice reset my circadian rhythm. I have not had sleep issues since. Good luck.

00:14 🧬 Peptides are gaining attention for therapeutic use, beyond GLP1 analogues, focusing on tissue healing, longevity, and vitality. 02:32 💊 Peptides are categorized into prescription, gray market, and black market, with safety concerns increasing outside prescription use. 07:50 🧪 Peptides are small proteins made of amino acid chains, often exhibiting pleiotropic effects, influencing various cellular processes. 11:07 🧠 Therapeutic peptides rarely have single-target effects, commonly affecting multiple pathways and cell types. 14:34 🚑 It's crucial to obtain therapeutic peptides through a board-certified physician to ensure safety and efficacy, avoiding risks associated with gray and black market sources. 15:02 ⚕ Therapeutic peptides can be utilized for tissue rejuvenation and repair, impacting muscle, connective tissue, and gut health. 21:38 💪 BPC-157, a therapeutic peptide, promotes tissue repair through stimulating angiogenesis, encouraging fibroblast migration and growth, aiding in injury recovery. 22:20 🩺 Gastric juices historically used for tissue preservation and repair, even in gruesome scenarios like preserving severed fingers. 23:44 🧪 BPC-157, a peptide compound found in gastric juices, shows promise in tissue preservation and rejuvenation, but its mechanism of action outside the gut remains somewhat mysterious. 26:17 ⚠ Limited human clinical studies on BPC-157 make its effectiveness and optimal delivery method uncertain, despite anecdotal evidence and animal studies suggesting potential benefits for tissue repair. 28:48 💊 BPC-157 has a high safety profile, but caution is advised due to potential tumor growth risks associated with its mechanism of action involving upregulation of growth hormone receptors. 32:16 🚫 BPC-157 may pose risks for individuals with tumors due to its promotion of angiogenesis and vascular growth, potentially accelerating tumor growth. 36:53 💉 Thymosin beta-4 (TB-500) and thymosin beta-4 (Tβ4) are peptides gaining attention for tissue rejuvenation and repair, particularly in conjunction with BPC-157, but their efficacy in humans remains uncertain without clinical trials. 41:04 💪 Growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) play crucial roles in metabolism, muscle growth, fat loss, and overall vitality, with GH secretion decreasing with age. 44:02 💉 Growth hormone and IGF-1 have various effects related to youthfulness, vitality, and energy, but indiscriminate growth may pose risks like tumor growth. 47:07 🏥 Category one peptides, such as CJC-1295, tesamorelin, and sermorelin, are FDA-approved and more thoroughly tested in humans for stimulating growth hormone release. 49:13 💤 Side effects of peptides like tesamorelin may include altering sleep patterns, potentially reducing REM sleep. 53:54 💊 Type two peptides, like ipamorelin and hexarelin, increase growth hormone release by mimicking or stimulating ghrelin, which can also increase hunger and anxiety. 56:41 ⚠ Hexarelin, while potent at increasing growthhormone, can lead to receptor desensitization and other adverse effects like increased prolactin levels. 01:00:38 🤝 Combining different peptides in cocktails may offer benefits but requires careful dosing and supervision by experienced healthcare providers. 01:03:52 ⚠ Augmenting the growth hormone pathway, whether by synthetic growth hormone or peptides, increases the risk of tumor growth and cancer due to the indiscriminate nature of growth hormone and IGF-1. 01:04:21 💊 Peptides like growth hormone secretagogues have potential benefits like faster injury recovery, but there's a trade-off between benefits and risks. 01:05:02 ⚠ Considerations for taking growth hormone secretagogues include age, potential tumor risks, using minimal effective dose, and assessing clinical need. 01:06:01 🧬 Peptides for longevity like Epitalon mimic naturally occurring peptides and show potential benefits in animal studies for suppressing tumor growth and adjusting circadian rhythm. 01:09:21 🌞 Peptides stimulating the melanocortin system, like Melanotan, can darken skin and potentially improve mood and libido, mimicking the effects of sunlight exposure. 01:20:55 💡 Kisspeptin peptides stimulate hormone pathways related to vitality and libido, potentially impacting mood, energy, and reproductive function, but their effects are still being researched.

Hey Dr. Huberman, Thanks for consistent and high quality content. I am a soon to be father and fitness enthusiast. I think it would be pretty useful if you had an episode about optimizing health and fitness during the first year of parenthood given the erratic sleep schedules and stress associated with early parenthood. It would be great to have strategies/protocols to optimize things like sleep, workouts, cognitive function, and general health. This isn't a topic I've seen explored by anyone in the fitness space or adjacent, and it would be very valuable to many in my age group who are becoming parents and want to avoid the "dad bod", and maintain high quality health and fitness. Thanks!

The best way to prevent cancellation is to not acknowledge you have done anything wrong, especially if you haven't, and especially if it doesnt concern the general public or your public work. Huberman is a champion of lowering the spotlight on himself in order to brighten the light on the information he is providing and compiling.

Dr Huberman, thank you for all you do. I have battled back pain due to musculoskeletal injuries from an accident. I have tried any and all remedies with nothing working but watching this episodes helps me stay motivated that there could be an option for me to heal. I’ve tried yoga, meditation, vitamins and mineral supplements, out patient physical therapy, etc. speaking with physicians is underwhelming as they don’t believe a 30yr male that is otherwise healthy is suffering from this pain but dismiss it as self inflicted anxieties and depressions. Don’t believe you’ll read this but thank you. I’d love to learn more how I can get my hands on this BPC 157.

I always find it funny when people refer to anything they don’t like as “the media” It’s not like CNN, Fox News, the BBC etc are all going after him. It was one expose in a not very widely read magazine based on first person sources. It’s not exactly “the media” it’s “a magazine” Sorry they exposed your hero. That’s why it’s dangerous to idol worship. But attacking the ones who exposed him doesn’t make him shiny and new.

I've just ordered some BPC157 & TB500 in the hope that I can get past some long term arm tendon problems that are preventing me weight training fully and in some cases limiting the ways I can lift during work. I can say with my personal experience. I suffered from chronic back pain where my disc would bulge and I Would not be able to walk for two weeks. When my back would go out I would inject bpc157 directly to where I feel the spasm occur and instantaneously my spasm and pain would subside and instead of being down for two weeks I would take it easy for 4 days. This was a game changer for me and allowed me to decompress and get strong. Now I haven’t had a spasm for about 8 months versus having one every 2 months. This stuff is a miracle for me.

Great summary for the layman… you mentioned CJC-1295 in that study with the 1 death. It’s because they used CJC-1295 with DAC to make it longer acting. Regular CJC without DAC does not have that effect. That difference should have been mentioned because many board certified physicians like myself use CJC-ipemorelin for patients with great success.
