Purchased a 24 B/E Ridgeline, local diving 23mpg, Test drove all Midsize Trucks, Ridgeline has the most interior room and a smooth ride. Downsized from a 2010 F150 with 173k miles, The Ridgeline is a better ride than my F150 and fits better in the Garage I will never go back to a full size Also at 45k it is less expensive than an equally equipped full size Truck. I WANTED the Tacoma. I BOUGHT the Ridgeline. The test drive made it an EASY choice. The Honda has: 1) Way more space in the front seats. It's super wide, so shoulder room is fantastic. I'm 6'-4" and I have good legroom, and massive headroom. 2) WAY WAY more space / MORE USABLE space in the back seats. Both for when using with the back seats down for people, and for when the back seats are folded up storing things. I can fit TWO full size bike back there (with the front wheels taken off). 3) In bed trunk. Man, it's perfect for groceries. They don't slide around like when you put them in a bed. And it's secure/locking/out of site. Perfect for valuables. 4) The WIDER FULL FLAT BED. Man, hauling 4x8 sheets of anything just got simple. They lay flat in the bed. 5) The ride, it's great. Quiet. Smooth. Great for trips, or around town. 6) Outward visibility. You can actually see out in all directions. (In the Tacoma, you sit so low in the cab/the hood is so high, you can't really see what's in front of the taco). 7) Seating position. The Tacoma seats sit you "on the floor". It's very uncomfortable. The Honda seats are very very good. And are high enough to provide thigh support. 8) The swing out tailgate is fantastic for getting access to the bed. Either loading, or using the bumper as a step. Magic. Dumbest thing I've done in my Ridgeline. I put 1,900lbs of landscape paver in the bed, and hauled them home. (The bed capacity is supposed to be 1,000lbs). Don't recommend...

I’m in my ‘60s, I want comfort and interior room but I also need a bed to haul (don’t tow, so don’t care about the 5k tow capacity). Ridgeline is perfect for what I need. Even with price increases, the Ridgeline RTL is a higher trim level than the SR5 Tacoma and the Honda still comes in lower. Give me NA V6 over a turbo 4 any day. I've been driving a 2003 Tacoma Extra-Cab with the 2.4 liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder which has served me faithfully for YEARS. My choice will be the Honda Ridgeline...probably the Black Edition. I live in the South and the humid summers here call for ventilated seats which the Black Edition offers. I'm the Home Depot sort of guy you describe...I like a pickup for the convenience of having a bed when I need it. I rarely tow...so the 5,000 pound towing limit on the Ridgeline is no big deal for me. I'll gladly take the unibody "car-like" ride offered by the Honda Ridgeline!

Ben, LOL, great video! I need a “truck” that will perform the function of towing a small 2,900 lb camper (any truck rated 5,000 lbs or more will comfortably do that) and I need payload to manage tongue weight, topper/shell, camping gear, passengers, and pet. I want around 1500 lbs of payload. In this comparison, easy, I choose the Ridgeline. Sure Tacomas are great trucks and solid off-roaders. I need function not a life-style vehicle! ;) I am disappointed in the Tacomas and Frontiers in terms of payload despite liking both. By the way, the Ridgeline will actually handle 600 lbs of tongue weight despite only towing 5,000 lbs. Most trucks will run out of payload before running out of tow capacity. Lots to like with the Tacoma, but my truck needs would require that I choose the Ridgeline over the Tacoma; ummm, the Ridgeline is more “trucky” for what I need in terms of hauling.

I'm driving my third Ridgeline Gen 2. It is perfect for us. My wife does not like to climb up into a traditional truck. We are in our 60s. I think the engine issues with VCM only pertain to the earlier generations. The oil burn issues etc look to have been resolved, aside from the occasional mild stuttering when VCM kicks in that some notice. You can buy a vcm disabler if you really don't like it.
@jn96042 ай бұрын
@@hapaboy0808 From all my readin on VCM all HOnda did was reprogram the system to cut 3 cylinders our less often so the problems take longer to surface. ANd I know there are disablers, but I am not interted in doing that. I will just buy something else that doesn't have VCM.

Up in freeze thaw area, those roads look very smooth. Very nice ! Would like comparo on some beat up roads. How about a decibel meter for interior noise levels ? I just can’t seem to get used to ANY vehicle with a vertical computer looking screen just sticking straight up, almost not attached to the dash. I realize is for less light reflection, but it looks cheap, like a last minute thought. A couple of screws and some wires connected, voila, instant computer stuck on the dash. Looks flimsy too around active kids. I considered a new Nissan Frontier for several months, but part time 4x4 is old tech same as my long ago 1989 little Blazer. Slippery roads, rear end slides around and have to decide 4x4 in or out? Then out or in ? Back and forth. All time AWD and a more comfortable car like ride, I’ll go with a loaded Ridgeline and look forward to some coddling on the roads of life. Especially the broken up horrible condition freeze thaw roads. Been spoiled by Subaru awesome full time AWD, but they’ve totally missed out on the last 20 years truck craze in ‘Murica.

Drove both vehicles several times before buying. When I started the process I had my mind set on the Tacoma, but ended up buying the Ridgeline. The Ridgeline: Rides far better because of the unibody and IRS. Gets 24 mpg daily driving. Quieter on the road than the Tacoma. Has the utility of the swing open tail gate and under bed lockable storage. Is far roomier inside- I’m 6-2 and the Tacoma felt small. Whether people think the Ridgeline qualifies as a “truck” or not is irrelevant to me. After driving the Tacoma and owning several F-150’s, the Ridgeline is a far superior vehicle to both unless you’re doing some serious off-roading, or need towing capacity that a bigger truck offers. Ridgeline 100%.

@bradbaraniuk4085 I hope Honda will leave the Ridgeline alone the way it's always been. It's the reason why owners like it because it's not trying to make it like any other truck.

Not a real truck stupidest thing I've ever heard when the Tacoma has a 4-cylinder with a turbo s*** that's a motor for a car do you have this little mortar working really hard to pull a truck and if you tow anything and put anything in the payload the mortar is going to work really hard come on absolutely ridiculous 4 cylinder in a truck it should not be called the truck maybe a truck for a Smurf plus the Tacoma looks really ugly all square boxy look on the inside and the outside it looks so cheap the older Tacomas looked a lot better and had Real Motors so definitely Toyota is skimping on looks quality durability so it is very clear which one is the real truck and which one is the Smurfs truck Toyota needs to go back to the roots that is when they make quality the trucks were better built no competition to the Honda Ridgeline absolutely none at all
@sammyjammy66477 ай бұрын
I don’t know why for 2024 Honda couldn’t put a surround view camera system on the Ridgeline. It would really clinch it for me. You mentioned that you liked the turbo push on the Tacoma. I can only imagine how much of a push the hybridized Tacoma will have. Yeah, the Tacoma can be equipped with the panoramic view monitor so the 465ft lbs of torque that Tacoma will have with the camera system that I like I’ll probably go for that one. 😅

I traded in my Tacoma Sport 2017 for my 2022RL. No regrets and when I’m towing my 4k lb trailer I’m not over payload. Tacoma 950lbs Ridgeline 1450lbs FTW. NY to Fla I would be exhausted after 17 hours with the nice ride of the RL much less fatigue.

Tacoma has a 4 cylinder? How cute. Lets see how its running with 250,000+ miles on it and after extended towing of a modest 4000 pound trailer. The fact is the Ridgeline humiliates the Taco in every way.

Turbos have been around forever. The had issues on 80s Saabs. The idea that a modern turbo is any worse than a modern NA engine is stupid. The advantage in low end torque, MPGS, and performance at elevation are worth it to me. I live in the north wind river range in Wyoming and drive at altitude all the time. Turbo performance is worth it to me. 60k miles on mine. Not a single issue. Personally I will never go back to NA engine.

Good video! Toyota lost me as a new truck customer when they went to the turbos. I ain't no mekanikal geeneeus but it don't take much to figger out that the more movin' parts you got the more chances of brakin' down. OK, enough of the bad grammar and spelling! Seriously, I have driven the new Taco and Ridgeline. Yes the Tacoma had more oomph on takeoff maybe, but in the end it IS a 4 cylinder and the sound reminded me too much of a 2015 Rav4 I owned. For the record, I have been a Toyota truck driver since 1999, 1 Tacoma and currently on my 3rd Tundra, but it's time to downsize. The main thing I DO NOT like about the Ridgeline is that stupid shifter! I DO like the built in trunk however, and it does ride better. My other option is that I'm looking at low mileage 2023 Tacomas, but when I can get a new Ridgeline for practically the same money?? I don't know yet. May be time to turn in my "Man Card" and get the Ridgeline, but hey, at age 72 that man card doesn't mean as much now! LOL.

90% of truck owners should be driving the Ridgeline. Many truck drives don't haul everyday or go off roading. They just want a vehicle that is capable. Ridgeline for sure. Tho that said tacoma are fantastic trucks. But the price......
@tomhockman62672 ай бұрын
I love my 23 Ridgeline RTL. It's a real enough truck for me. I don't want a rough ride from a "real truck", and Toyota's latest truck refreshes have not gone well. The Tundra and Tacoma are rife with engine and transmission problems. Plus, they cost too much. Ridgeline is also overpriced, but all trucks are overpriced.
