I am the great grandson of Walter R. Benjamin. his son George my mothers father taught me marksmanship with a 310. The same rifle but a smooth bore.

A childhood friend of mine had the Sheridan Blue Streak 20 caliber and I'm the one who pumped it for him . I always wanted one but they were more money than my parents would part with . Now I have two Silver Steaks and loving it .

Man i wish they made pellet guns and air rifles out of brass and wood again like back then for all the base models gou get at walmart and academy. I can only imagine a kid back in the 40s runnjng around with his brand new air rifle ahokting tin cans and anything he can find oit int he yard and woods. When i was a kid me and my friends all had red ryders as our plinkjng guns and a pumpmaster 760 for taking out small birds that are considered nusance and invasive and squirells and rats

I had one from around 1958 or so which was very similar. The black paint wore of so I removed it all & it shined brilliant gold. Sorry I sold it to another kid for a few bucks for gas money.

Hi, I have a model 317 Benjamin Franklin 177 Cal. air riffle my parents gave to me and my brother in the 1960's. I need to find a source for a complete seal overhaul kit because it will not pump up and hold air. Do you know of a source that can supply overhaul parts for my air gun? It holds a tremendous amount of sentimental value for me because my late brother and I shared it on thousands of adventures when we were boys. Thanks so much. Marc. 🙂

Hey, I also got a Benjamin Franklin .177 cal model 317. Did you ever find a seal kit? Mine doesn’t hold air either. I would love to restore it.
@19Cub6 ай бұрын
Contact Baker air rifles in Ohio. I sent my 317 that had not held air since 1970, They restored the seals, replaced a missing safety and various screws etc and sent it back with a test report on shooting velocities they recorded at various numbers of pumps' So far I have sent 1000 pellets down range and could not be happier, Google and call them. They have a website.

Mine looks just like this 317, not the 312... but mine says 312... there must have been a period when 312s looked like 317s? Oh and mine is .22. So I guess mine is a 312 with the same bolt as the 317.

@inrangerimfire20two20 күн бұрын
Hey there, thanks for the comment. It means it’s a .17 cal lead bb model. You can still find them although they are not super popular. Last bunch I bought were made by Gamo. Do not use steel bbs as they will destroy the brass barrel

I have a 317 with the one piece bolt which is definitely beefier. The serial number starts with an “F”, but haven’t been able to find mfg data. Missing the rear site and was wondering who makes the peep site?

Baker Airguns still lists it on their website. www.bakerairguns.com/product/benjamin-273-peep-sight/

The seals in Benjamin's of that era are made of Lead, so they don't dry out and they there was not rubber for the pump cup it was leather so motor oil was used to keep them moist.
@inrangerimfire20two2 жыл бұрын
Hey there thanks for your interest. Benjamin used a leather pump cup on only the earliest (like mine) before they switched to a (more common) rubber pump cup. Some of the internal valve seals are indeed lead, but also rubber in places within the valve. Motor oil will work as a lubricant, but will destroy a leather seal over the long term and it’s prolonged use should be with caution-and a neats foot oil would be correct for the long term, but I am sure most were oiled with whatever the person had on hand
