First great video description. My whirlpool range oven went out a couple of Sundays ago, thankfully after Sunday dinner was finished. I didn't realize it until the next morning when the clock display was not on. So of course I tried to press buttons and nothing would come on so I did not know what was going on so I started googling different things now I have already replaced the element I want to say I've already replaced the ignite function for both sides of the the burners I like I said replace the element I replace the thermal block I replace the sensor from your video I heard you say something about the control board I'm thinking that's probably what is wrong with my range the control board I see that is also costly in your recommendation would you recommend replacing the control board I mean I guess I pretty much will have a brand new range after that because I replace every part on the back of the stove

You check the heating element with a wire connected. In my experience as an hvac guy you should isolate everything before ohming something out

Thanks for your video. I just want to be sure my control board is the issue. I tested for continuity on the broil element and that works. I tested the voltage to the terminals while they were connected to the broil element and they were reading at 5 volts. I assume there is an issue with the control board. If the element say was defective I should still see 240V correct?

Thanks, this video was helpful. My problem seems to be a bit more involved. My oven will not come up to full temperature unless I use "rapid preheat". So, if I try to bake at 350 the oven gets to 295 and stays there. If I switch to rapid preheat it will go to full temperature. At room temperature the temperature sensor reads 1100 ohms which matches your video. Both the top (broil) and bottom element seem to be working and I am getting about 220 vac to the range. Everything seems to point to the board. Do you agree?

I have replaced the element which was badly cracked and when it continued having the same problem i replaced the temperature sensor but still problem exists. Great video. Oven element was toasted. Got ohm reading of OL, anyway. One of the wires never came out of the insulation. Have to go fishing for it. Any suggestions. The other wire stayed attached, and I put a clip on it. Have good light and needle nose pliers to fish for the wire that disconnected in the insulation.

Hey Ben, appreciate the video but I hope you can give me a few extra pointers!! My whirlpool accubake only heats up to 300F on bake and 400F on broil when set to 500F. The next day I went over there I looked in the oven and the Broiler and Bake Element looked fine. I saw that the clock wasn't lit and this display also turns on the oven. I checked the breaker, and it had tripped, so I turned it back on. The burners on the stove work, but nothing is lit up on the clock and oven display. The light in the oven is working. Burners work fine. 20 vac across oven elements. All plug connectors on control board pulled, elements, fuse, light, door switch, lifted. Something pulling L1 down.

My whirlpool seems to heat up to temp. If i set it to 350 it goes to 350, but then drops temp to about 250 or less. Yet the display still says 350. I realized this by turning the oven off and back on, then the display reads the 200 something temp as it heats back up, then cools down again without changing the display. Hi. The first thing you mentioned was that you would talk about what to look for if nothing happens. My stove is a W10198585A. If I unplug it and plug it back in, it works as expected for a while then reverts back to dead. The clock works. The "hot surface" light works but no heat anywhere. Reboot and it works again for a bit. I checked the connectors, re-seated them all and am trying again. Any ideas?

If it can help anyone, my top element burnt, I replaced it, and the oven would still not work after that, despite both elements having 24 ohm resistance. The stove elements and display panel worked, but there was no light on the oven knob and no heat. I checked the input voltage and only got 120-ish volts. Went to the breaker panel, noticed the oven circuit was wired to a tandem breaker, and lo and behold, only one side had tripped. I reset the breaker and it resolved the issue.

You'd have to look at the burners as well as relays where the knobs are for damage, and see whats bad. Odd that both don't work, but you'd want to unplug it and slowly go through all the wires and check for damage

Whirlpool oven model wee730h0ds0 bottom bake element exploded and sparked pretty good. Replaced with new element but does not seem to heat up. Broiler element gets red hot if set to broil but set on a bake setting the bottom element does not turn on. Stove top burners all work fine. So my question is, if the stove top burners work and the broiler element works is it safe to say the thermal fuse is fine? Would the control board also be fine if the the stove top and broiler element works but not the bake element? And same for the thermostat? From the best I can tell it seems when set to bake setting, the oven normally uses a combination of the baking element at the bottom and the broiler element, is this true? The oven will start to heat up when put on a bake setting but it seems only the broiler element is the one getting hot.

I am not familiar with that model. Some use broil+bake, and others use bake only. You said the bake element exploded (physically damaged), then now it won't heat up at all, correct? The thermal fuse SHOULD be fine. You can test/verify with a multimeter set to continuity "just in case", but the fuse only acts as a safety switch if the cabinet overheats - not if the element explodes. Thermostat should be OK too. The control board SHOULD be fine despite the element issues. The bake relay that supplies voltage to the element can go bad independently of anything else - we see this all the time on Frigidaire's when the element is OK or replaced, but still fails to get voltage to element. A few things I'd investigate and verify: 1) Can you verify with a thermal gun (a cheap one) that bake element isn't getting hot at all? 2) Is the element properly attached w/ the spade terminals in back? I had an oven a week ago that I thought element was bad, but it ended up the spade terminals that go from board to element (at the element) were bad too, not just element. Is all other requisite wiring ok? 3) Another big thing, and I did this @ end of video was check voltage when the oven is on. If you're feeling up to it and wearing gloves, you can use a multimeter on voltage to test between the two metal spades on back of oven when its running to see if the board is triggering 240v signals to the bake element. If its not sending any voltage, there may of been a chain reaction of the element dying that caused an issue w/ the bake relay. Very unlikely, but possible.

@@bensappliancesandjunk Yes that's correct, it made a popping/crackling noise. The bottom element on this stove is under a cover plate, I took the cover plate off and the element was severed in two spots and was all fried looking, I threw that one out and bought a brand new element and installed it. I currently don't have a thermal gun but if I put it on a bake setting I can put my hand directly on the element and feel absolutely no heat at all. I've inspected all of the wires in the back, including the ones leading to the elements and all have no sign of an issue, nothing burnt or corroded. Something I mentioned previously about the broiler element working in combination with the bottom element on a bake setting. It appears this oven has a "rapid preheat" setting you can apply which turns on both top and bottom elements while preheating for a bake setting. That gave a me a false reading previously of the bottom element as it would feel slightly warm to the touch but it was only getting warmed up by the broiler element during a rapid preheat. The bottom element is not heating up at all on any setting. I will get a multi meter tomorrow to test the items you mentioned.

I checked the oven today with a multimeter. The three leads coming from the wire that plugs into the wall is sending 240 volts to the oven. On the terminal testing the outer leads reads 240. The two wires leading to the bake element is not getting 240. It’s reading from 30-50 volts. So is it safe to say the control board is bad or the relay like you mention?

I have a Kenmore 790.9621 that won't come up to the set temperature on the control board. Always 30-35 degrees below. 380 = 350. The stat came in at 1083 ohms and the power supply is good at the block. I can't see anything on the board that would suggest something wrong but I didn't remove it to view the front side. One other thing, the "Oven, Preheat" indicator lights will work off and on at different times. I have performed a reset, and multiple calibrations. Also, one time I was able to set the temp to 380, brought it up to 350, and then I turned it down to 350 and it held. Other times not. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Nice video!!!!

My thermostat resistance is showing 1.39 and also there is a burnt mark on the far right side in the middle of the motherboard right at the edge voltage coming in to the unit is okay for some reason the oven is heating up really good now being that I unhooked a lead from the motherboard to get the screw out there was connections that were loose that I felt like I pushed in to make better contact but still unsure Thanksgiving is coming up and need to resolve this situation do you have any suggestions?

Ugh, I have a newer whirlpool range and recently replaced one of the burner switches but for some reason the display will not reset it still shows that the stove top is on and hot when it is not on or hot. Any ideas????

Does the convection fan have a built-in heating element? Its possible that the convection is using the broil+convection fan heater, and the bake element or relay system has gone bad. You'd have to use a multimeter to check & test the various connections to see if the elements are bad,. or its board-related.

My issue is with an electric lg oven. The convection fan element doesn't seem to heat up at all but the main bake element heats up. Do I need to turn it on to read the relays and/or element? I don't have much experience with HV so I'd rather call someone if I do.

Use any of the parts websites to determine the model# of the BOARD you need. What I typically do then is just do a general Google search for the board and then go hunting to find anyone that could have it... Many times, if its old, the result ends up on EBay.

Hey Ben I have Whirlpool glass top stove /oven My baking element will not get hot temperatures on display will not go higher then 100 degrees. The broiler at top works fine as well as the stove top all work . Any idea what may cause my baking element not to work it also is brand new . Still has the new oven smell when you turn it on we have used it only 3 times .

I'd check for 240v going to the element. That is quite advanced though. I'd unplug the stove, and pull the control board and look for physical damage to the square or rectangular boxes on the control board. Likely, the relay has failed and there may be physical evidence of that such as a burn mark. Is the stove brand new or the element?

Hi Ben, thanks for the very informative video. We have almost the exact looking stove, except mine has the fourth prong. The stove top works and also the broiler. It's the lower heat element that isn't working. I've used a multi meter n the actual element is fine. What could it be?

I also checked the thermostat n it is fine also

Usually its the heating relay on the board if the thermostat is fine as well as the heating element.

I had put everything back together after doing so I plugged in the oven, as soon as that happened the wire connector to the bottom heating element sparked! 😬

Hi Ben, my whirlpool oven heats up but doesn't heat properly. Seems to be when the door is opened to check whatever you baking it will only eat up to about 200 deg after that. I have replaced the temperature sensor and it still acts up. Both elements pass the continuity test. Any suggestions?

I have a whirl pool that comes on gets to about 200 degrees and the element goes cold and the oven never gets up to temp. Temp displayed looks accurate the entire time. Is there a thermal safety switch on some of these? Where is it?

Likely the board relay is shot. It can't deliver the right current to get it upto temperature.

Hi Ben. I have a WP looks just like this model. Largest front main cooking burner switch was hard to turn a couple times then just fell off. I did some research and it seems it could be the infinity switch? Also, right about that time my broil element stopped working. Not good for a real cook. Can you help please? Are those two proems connected? My son has a meter and his electrical cert a d works for a fire alarm co but lives in another state. If you would be so kind as to steer me in the right direction toward repairing these items maybe I could fix it or somehow get him to help me.

Both things are typically not connected, as the infinity switch is totally separate from the broil element in the vast majority of stoves. A scant few are, but most are totally separate. I'd replace the infinite switch first, then look at what's going wrong w/ broil.

When turning on my coils on my electric stove the cooktop on light which is usually solid when a coil is on is now flashing, any idea? Coils do get hot
