Teddy Bean in the UK the size of a persons television is inversely proportional to their place in the class system. Drive through any council estate after dark (keep your doors locked) and through the dirty living room windows you will see enormous televisions dominating the whole room. Those higher up the social scale prefer their TV's discreet, or better still consigned to a different room.

I watched all 4, really good job. If I may, MDF works better if you are going to paint it, flatter, no bleed and no knots. Also, I see some blotches on the stain. This comes from different density of the fibers. A light coat of shellac, then sanded, then stained will give you an even finish. Of course, you may like the light/dark look. Again, great job.

Great job. Fit and finish look fantastic. But why does everyone insist on putting TVs over the fireplace? It's WAY too high for normal viewing... I think HGTV designers started doing this and everyone continued the trend.
@bobnewman18105 жыл бұрын
IMHO, because it's so space efficient that it's worth the compromise. Another factor is the many web sites that advocate mounting the TV at a height based on eye level fail to take into account that people often recline when watching, rather than sitting bolt upright.
@Jessa88915 жыл бұрын
I disagree. We prefer to have our tv up higher.
@ZackPyle5 жыл бұрын
It's also bad for the tv to have heat rising up to it 🤷🏼♂️

Ben - I'm making a very similar thing and want to do exactly what you did regarding the hinges (being flush on the bottom). Do you remember what specific hinges you used? I narrowed it down to "frameless cabinet hinges" but there are still several variations from there.

I’m remodeling my fireplace too and that could be something I will make. so I really appreciate if you give some update about the heat coming out from so many things connected in so small space.
@BenTardif5 жыл бұрын
There’s very little heat being produced regularly. If I’m playing a video game I’ll have the door open anyway. No heat issues so far and it’s been a few months now
@franckbosch18085 жыл бұрын
Very nice indeed. Thumb up from me ;-)
@firepilot175 жыл бұрын
Great idea but you are going to have problems with heat with all those electronics, especially if you use the fireplace. I’m going to guess the mantle door will be open a lot. You’ll have to mount an exhaust fan to one end and put some ventilation holes on the other. Looks great though! Agree with other posters on TV size. You’ll be altering that soon too!
@clarkstone-bear77423 жыл бұрын
I think its a little to much white for my taste. But that's just my opinion. With that being said, it looks really nice man. Great job. And the Mantle came out top teir bad ass!!!

Exactly what I'm thinking of building but I'm wondering about air flow to units inside, do you have any over heating problems or do you leave the front open when playing?

I leave it open while playing mainly so there’s no interference between controller and console. Wifi router is in there with it closed and haven’t had an overheating issue

I'm doing basically the same thing in our family room and was wondering which particular hinges you used. I'm using 1x red oak and want the 'flush' look as well. It looks like the Everbuilt soft close full overlay hinges, but I wanted to be sure.

Amazing job! My husband and I just bought our first home and our fireplace needs much needed makeover. Your video has been by far the best as how we can do this ourselves. Question, if you were to use the fire place and having the TV mounted over it, would the mantle protect it from the heat?
@BenTardif4 жыл бұрын
We did this project knowing we’d never use the fireplace because of the electronics right above it
@xingoo44355 жыл бұрын
