You should use those o-rings because they stop the screws from ever vibrating lose because they absorb the vibrations.

I bought an M9 about two months ago, and replaced a LOT of parts. I had a Wilson Combat 12# mainspring that made the DA crazy light, and did ignite primers, but I switched in a Beretta D spring. My Lyman gauge consistently reads 7lb 6oz to 7lbs 10oz, and I have confidence in it. Thanks for sharing!

12# does sound pretty light. They're pretty good shooters, but I bet with the 12# you didn't have to pull or squeeze the trigger - you just had to think it, and the gun would fire.

Bought all the same upgrades to include the USAF (black and blue) Lok Grips and a skeletonized hammer. The only problem I ran into was the magazine release button roll pin. Tried re-using the original roll pin and it bent trying to reinstall it. Ended up drilling button and mag release to 1/16 and installing a 1/16 roll pin. Now I'm just waiting for my Lok grips to get here. But great gun, came with new slide and barrel and frame had very minimal wear.

Excellent video for the most part. Indeed, the lock washers/bushings are necessary to keep tension on the screws so they don’t loosen and back out on their own.

Funny, I'm also an Air Force veteran and I just bought the same LOK grips with the Air Force symbol for my 92S I picked up a while back (except mine are FDE). I also carried the M9 when I was security forces so I have a certain fondness for the 92 series. I appreciate the how to on replacing the hammer spring as I'm waiting on mine to arrive from Brownells and I wasn't sure how much different it would be from the 92FS.

I custom ordered these grips from him and I encouraged him to add grips for each of the branches to his catalogue. I'm glad to see it's a standard offering now. The spring replacement is pretty easy as long as you have the right punches.

I own two of these. I found grips on Amazon of all places. "Cool Hand" makes grips specifically for the 92S and I used new Hogue grip screws also available on Amazon. They fit perfectly. They are great guns to shoot, make sure you not only clean the pistols before using but also the magazines - mine were almost comically filthy, I don't think Luigi the Italian police officer ever cleaned them.

Thanks Nick! I have plenty of those types of stories. One that comes to mind - I did some minor electrical work on a truck I had just bought. I turned the key to check my work, and nothing happened. Thank God I found your video. I just started a new job a couple months ago and I got paid a few days ago. I’ve always wanted a Beretta 92, but I just don’t want to shell out $500-$600 for one. I saw Bud’s gun shop and Classic Firearms having the old 92S for $299. I’m really really tempted to buy one, but the one thing I didn’t like on them was the low sights (can’t really do much about them since the frontsight is machined onto the slide) and that half the grip is checkered. Both of those things can be changed by practice with the gun and changing out the grips. I’m looking for top to bottom checkering and maybe rubberized grip. Thank you for shouting out LOKgrips because I just checked their site and they offer grips for the 92S. May cost extra, but hey! They have grips for the gun!
@LoadsofBacon
@LoadsofBacon 7 жыл бұрын
I've been very happy with mine so far. It was good out of the box, but the new grips are awesome. The sights aren't premium, but they are sufficient. I ended up painting part if the front sight with some bright orange paint. There wasn't much area to paint, but it did seem to help.

I used the Wilson Combat spring set for 24 bucks at most places and it had 5 springs to replace the originals with and after putting the new spring kit the difference was amazing! It shoots so good now that the single action pull is on par with what you get from high end trigger replacement kit. You have to replace all five springs to get the results, just replacing the easy ones won't give you the full effects of using the whole kit. You will need a punch kit to get the springs inside the slide done, but it will be worth it. There are Utube demo videos to show you how to do it. Oh yeah, and I got the kit cheap at Cheaper than Dirt web site. If you want to get amazing trigger pulls for both single and double action pulls this is the single most valuable upgrade to do for your favorite new carry pistol. Good luck

Hi, A couple things. Thanks for the info on LOK Grips. I had Jayson make some for me with my Navy E-5 Crow. They came out great. I also replaced the hammer spring with a Wolff 17 pound spring and the RP TCU. Both worked, but I used Weapon Shield CLP and grease when putting the gun back together. It's working fine. Might be a dry gun issue with the TCU.

The Wolf trigger return spring assembly wouldn't work in my 92A1. It kept popping up and binding the action. That's when I saw the print about not working with newer models. I ended up using the return spring from the LTT Trigger Job In A Bag kit. I really hate installing that spring. I don't get along well with springs in general. But that one really messed with me. I love those grip panels. I'm running some G10 grips on my 92A1 and they are kind of nice. The texturing was a bit too aggressive for me but some sanding fixed that.

is it weird that ive had my 92s for about a week now, shot 1000 rounds and love it so much im actually thinking of buying 3 or 4 more of these and just stashing them. i have a feeling these will be the next HI-Power, cheap for now, stupidly overpriced later. also on another note, i thought i would hate the heel mag release but find that after 1000 rounds im just as quick at a mag change with the added advantage of keeping the spent mag. my new mag change drill consist of,,,, fire last round slide locked back, right handed shooter-left hand thumb hits mag release while catching the mag, my mag pouch is on my left hip so as i go for a new mag i drop the empty into the left pants pocket as i retrieve a full mag and the rest is obvious. sounds like a lot but its actually quite fluid and feels almost natural... this is now my full time carry. there is absolutely no way the mag release can be hit by mistake in or out of the holster. i like mine so much im actually going to upgrade it at well with a stainless slide with night sights. my 92s looks like someone put a very very worn out slide on a brand new pistol.. its almost two tone looking there is such a difference.

They really are great pistols! Mine was the opposite - the "lower" showed a little wear, and the slide (and barrel) looked brand new, minus the import stamp. I am very glad I picked mine up, and it sounds like you've found a winner as well. Good shooting Nathan!

FWIW Wilson sells a 12lb Wulf spring. I've had it in my 92a1 for going on three years, it's excellent. Just a suggestion for anyone that wants a even lighter pull. Also (not sure if it's applicable to the "s" model) the short throw trigger Wilson sells is outstanding. Awesome video, I'm a new subscriber found you when doing powder coating reload research. Keep up the good work and good luck with your future videos.

Thanks for the comment Kyle, and I'm glad you found the channel! I normally shoot revolvers, so I don't mind a bit heavier trigger. I wonder how much you could reduce the spring before it starts to reduce reliability. Sounds like the 12 lb is a winner.

That's awesome. I might be mistaking be I'm pretty sure that return spring is suppose to be on the lower pin that goes through the trigger that might be the problem, if you still have it you may want to try that. Just a thought but it would be cool for you to change out the safety to either a standard Beretta ambi safety or a Wilson combat single side safety. Awesome video and thank you for your service.
@LoadsofBacon
@LoadsofBacon 7 жыл бұрын
The original spring is mounted on the lower pin as a place to pivot and for retention. It has an arm that applies the spring tension to the top pin. I had the new spring installed correctly, it's just a little too weak for this setup. I'm about to send it back in exchange for the regular strength spring. As far as the safety - if I were going to do anything, I would try to convert it to a type G decock only, but this is just a fun at the range gun for me, so I think I'll leave it alone. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment! Good shooting to ya!

Hey Bacon, nice video. I have a 92 in the stainless version and really like it. It's completely stock but have been wanting to make some changes, if only aesthetic. Those blue grips really make that gun pop. I'm always Leary of changing springs, I would like to change the slide Spring for easier racking, but don't want to start having problems with stovepipe or not going into battery ! I have a theory, The Beretta was adopted into military service as a replacement for the 1911A1 in 1985, The Government wanted a Pistol that was manageable to shoot and a proven design, NATO required conformance with the 9MM, which isn't a such a horrible round, Keep in mind, a Handgun is an Evac- Evade Form of a firearm in the military. Qualifications and Handed- ability of the need of the service is about Logistics, a one size fit all along with the M-16. whether you are 4.11' or 6.10' the firearm fits you and you can qualify with it. The Beretta is a quality firearm that is well made, accurate and proven. I personally am not a Huge Fan of the 9MM, However, when outfitting organisation's as big as a military it made sense and I see what they were after. Nice Gun and hard to beat for reliability Bacon. Dave.

It is a great little shooter, but, like you, I'm also not a huge fan of the 9mm. I was recently reading some Elmer Keith (Sixguns), and it was interesting to hear his perspective on revolver vs auto loader for military application, and on the possibility of the military moving to the 9mm. This one should provide years of fun at the range, but I tend to reach for a revolver for any serious work.

Be careful with those old school views - they are contagious. The love of the revolver infected me through Bill Jordan, and I have not been cured since then. I have never carried a semi-auto.

@robertmaybeth3434

they went to 9 mm for a pistol battle round because commonality with NATO was more important then knock down power. Pistols in war have been described as "generally useless" and issued to people (officers, support troops) whose job is everything BUT fighting but still need to be armed. Also a pistol in most armies is usually just a badge of rank not something that will generally be needed in combat. If a troop is down to his pistol in a full out dog fight he is in big big trouble, generally speaking.

With 9 Berettaś in the 92 series, all the work you did was second nature for me, but impressive and easily shown for those that came for the help doing the improvements you showed. Very Well Done Video...I would only ask, which Wolff Trigger Conversion you used as you did not mention... Factory, Reduced Power (What I Use) Or extra Power. Lok Grips Are Not New To Me, But I Have Used VzG10ś on most of my Berettaś. Lok does make a superior product. Thanks for your video..And your Service to America.

I recently replaced the hammer spring in a 92SB with a 16#, which the source I was reading said was stock for a 92D (DAO only). It made the SB trigger pull a lot lighter, but the 92D is lighter still, and I think it is a 14#. I will leave it since I don't plan to shoot the SB much, but when I get a 92 Compact it will definitely get a 14#! {!-{>

Thanks for the video. Answered a couple of my questions about the s model. Was wondering if you may know if the s model gun is compatible with later f and fs models. If u were to get the s would i be able to put an f or fs model barrel in slide frame and slide return spring etc. would be a great help i want one. But id also like to know even though its surplus and possibly used that i can get parts readily. Ive looked into but it all seems to look the same and i dont want to get something that says fits all 92 models except the s model situation to happen. Thanks alot.

Loads of Bacon thank you for the response have asked quite a few people this being the only response. Better then none at all. I appreciate it. Figured as much most of the parts all look relatively the same. Just didnt want to get caught up on a subtle difference. I said to hell with it and got one while the getting was good. Ive learned there is enough out there to keep er a goin. Much obliged.

I have a Italian 92S bought back around 1980. I noticed that the pin going through the hammer sticks out from the frame about 1/8th of an inch and prevents me from changing grips. Can I just hammer it back into the frame or is there another issue?

I am not certain which tool you are referncing, but if you are talking about removing and installing the hex head screws, I was using a hex bit. You can find all sorts of hex bits in this kit: amzn.to/2NhaRnn You could also use a hex key, a.k.a. Allen wrench: amzn.to/2Nf5xkq Let me know if it was something else and I'll be more than happy to help.
