I pocket carried a Keltec P32 for many years. I spend most of my hours at work strapped in a fall protection harness with a tool belt around my waist, so keeping any of my larger polymer pistols strapped to me and accessable under all my gear becomes a bit of a challenge. I did end up replacing the P32 with a Ruger LCP, which was then replaced by a LCP II, which was replaced by an LCP Max. People say .32 and .380 are too weak to do the job, but I still haven't met anyone willing to stand infront of one and have it unloaded into their center mass... With that said the LCP Max is definitely more "hefty" then the P32, but it isn't that much larger when laid side by side. I've gotten so use to having a small pistol in my front right pocket that it now just feels odd to not have something there, even if I'm away from work and carrying one of my larger pistols at my 4 o'clock I still have the LCP in my pocket.

The tilt up barrel is what makes it desirable for a lot of people who, for one reason or another, have difficulty racking a slide. My wife and daughter carry Tomcats. Me too, sometimes. I find them fascinating.

Yep, makes sense for folks who don't wanna rack the slide. Though unless you're willing to carry one in the chamber, seems like a big tradeoff to first have to fish around for a loose cartridge, and then pop open the barrel to insert it... before you're even _'ready'._

@@klowen7778 When we carry, there's one in the chamber with safety on. The double action is a little stiff so sometimes I carry with safety off. It's pickey about ammo so I use nothing but Fiocchi FMJ. No problem yet.

You should know there are people who have ate up more than 8 rounds of 9, and even multiple rounds of 5.56 and were still capable of posing a threat. If you're a great shot then yes .22 or .32 might be a viable option, but most people aren't and that's where a larger framed pistol with a modern caliber is beneficial. Additionally if you live in an area with bear then you definitely want 9mm, 40, 45, or 10mm (ideally 10mm in Grizzly territory). Of course the last important part is the fact that heavy clothing that you see in areas which get cold can really frustrate smaller rounds like .22 and .32 unlike a properly designed 9mm defensive round.

I've got my Dad's old 21A in the camera case he used to LEGALLY carry it in. Still laugh because he never had a phone with a camera, so he travelled with the 21A in one case and an actual camera in another. Former Marine, he also qualified (before online idiocy) for his CCW with a rare PPK .380 that I've yet to master. My Dad TAUGHT me how to shoot and took me to classes 40 years ago, miss him every day and thanks to those today that TEACH their kids about guns, safety and responsibility!

I have 2 Tomcats and a Bobcat. I love them both but usually carry one of the Tomcats because of the more powerful round. I really like the tip up barrel because they are very hard to rack back due to the small size. They both fit perfectly in my back pocket. I also have a 9mm Beretta. I just like Berettas, especially the visible hammer.

Berettas are grand pistols. They and Walthers (at least my P-38's) have the safety mounted on the slide. I find that this gives you an "ear" to hook your finger over when you rack the slide. This helps. --Old Guy

I have a love hate with the Tomcat. I hate them because I have long skinny hands and will walk away from the range with a few snake bites. Love that they are great for "casual" carry weapons. like shoving into a pocket or an edc bag and going about the day not having to worry about imprinting to everyone. *I should edit, that pocket carrying or not in a holster, its always best to keep chamber empty. yes it adds for a longer ready time, however it is the safest option

I actually finally took my new Tomcat to the range today to try it out (I bought it like 7 weeks ago). I've never fired a 32 ACP, and I was surprised at the lack of recoil. It's like a .22 LR. Very fun to shoot. As a pocket pistol, it's so much smaller than my P365, LCP or S&W Centennial revolvers like the 642 and 351C. I can't believe these aren't bigger sellers. I think most people see them as a novelty gun for some reason.

I would say the power is a major factor. Also will I like these pistols shooting them accurately fast and much harder than doing the same thing with something like an LCP2 or a Taurus 738, sig p238, etc. I'll also add that on most of these I find they manual safety to be kind of awkward and if you add all of the actions required to get it into to action, It's another major deficiency for the older design. Often with these things you're going to fumble it out of your pocket holster use two hands to disengage the safety or break your firing grip and do an awkward contortion, then wobble around a little bit to find your site picture because they don't quite point right, and they have tiny little black sights. For a fair amount of them after you take your first shot you're going to have to fix your grip again. .... Now I know you're going to say you don't have any of those problems and that you've learned to overcome that. Yeah me too but go take one of these to the range and hand it to five or six random people and you will see exactly what I'm talking about. These aren't the guns that are mostly owned by people who shoot a lot they're mostly owned by people who don't shoot a lot. And they're a little bit more difficult to use easily for everything except for the barrel tip of feature.

The issue is they are freaking small, and they don't offer you a caliber that most people are willing to trust. Combine that with the fact that I know some people like myself prefer to stick to very specific commonly found calibers.

Mine too man. 40gr solids and its damn near 100%. The 36gr hollow points also work almost as well, but i noticed even with its short tube, those 40s hit and drive deep. Its def a cool little gun. 200 feathers I paid for mine.

At 79 years old, I now only shoot the 22LR or 22 Magnum guns because of some nerve damage in both my hands. I love my Bob Cat and I also own 5 other 22LR/22Mag guns and I shoot them as good as I did with my more powerful guns in the past! I shoot at my LGR every week and I do carry my Bob Cat at times in my right front pocket, with confidence as a self defense weapon! Yes, I had to make these adjustments but I am having more fun than ever at my LGR and Life is good here in Sunny Florida, the Gun Friendly State!

Look into Federal Punch ammo for self defense. CCI is supposed to be coming out with a self defense round called Uppercut. Both are designed to fire out of short barrels. (Quick burn powder)

Strange for an old guy who has carried a 1911 .45 for that many years, but I must admit a fascination with those tilt barrel mouse guns, especially the .22. Any pocket pistol is likely to need a “shakedown” and maybe some fiddling. There’s a company making better springs, so with a little fiddling and a simple mod or two, you can make even a Phoenix HP22 into a decent gun.

Got a 21A about 30 years ago. It had numerous problems as well as jamming. Sent it back to Beretta. They returned it with a long list of items they fixed. Since then it has been flawless! It is now the one I pickup to walk around the block or a quick errand. Good pocket holster, no fuss. Sights such but I do just fine at 5 yards. Yes, I have bigger fancier guns but this ca go anywhere. Good review especially comments on front sight.

I picked up the 21A Covert recently and combined with a De Santis pocket holster, it has become my minimum daily carry. Shoots accurate and reliably with CCI ammo, looks cool and a great little suppressor host. I've shot the Bobcat at 50 yards on a DPS man silhouette, and surprisingly able to score center chest hit every time. If my attire allows, I also carry my G19. Either way, I'm 100% sure the little Bobcat can handle any typical situation I'm likely to ever encounter.

Both of these guns are hammer fired, DA/SA with a tip up barrel and manual safety. The DA/SA trigger combined with the manual safety provides optimal safety for concealed (pocket) carry, and the tip up barrel makes it easy to load for many who do not have adequate hand strength to rack the slide of the other so called pocket pistols. You have spent considerable time and effort finding the "perfect" DA/SA gun in other videos. I've been around firearms my entire life, but has suffered through an accidental discharge. I will not carry any pistol without a safety nor will I allow my wife to do so. She carries the Tomcat, and is a good shot for a 78 year old lady. I switched from a P365 to a SCCY CPX-1 for the reasons mentioned above. I just don't feel comfortable carrying a striker pistol. Either of these pistols is well suited for self-defense, and to assume these guns are designed for other purposes is misguided.

The point of the tip up barrel is not to assist those with weak hands. The point is not having to lower the hammer on a loaded chamber in order to carry it safely in double action mode. Actually a pretty cool solution to that problem.

@@aguilayserpiente So true! I once developed severe tendonitis in my right wrist at the age of about 35. It was extremely painful and incredibly debilitating. It was physically impossible to hold a washcloth, let alone pull the trigger on any of my firearms with that hand. Lasted about one year and then gradually healed. I was in great shape besides my wrist. I learned the importance of training to shoot one handed with both hands. It's not only older folks battling arthritis.

The tip up barrel is very handy for those with a weak grip, where racking a slide is near impossible. Also the sights, paint white on the rear sights, and orange in the front. Makes it much easier to see.

I’ve carried a Tomcat for ages cocked and locked and dropped it one or twice on the hammer, no problems-though it definitely should be avoided. In a nice pocket holster, I carry it L & L with confidence.

I just bought the Bobcat in March and love it. After a few test rounds of different ammo it has settled on CCI Mini Mags and Stingers. It lives in my pocket as I work from home and always nice to have at the barn in case of snakes in the chicken coop.

The Bobcat is to prevent the random ass-kicking. Point, scream, run. Also, I used an Arkansas stone w/oil on the slide rails, and it became a lot less picky on the ammo. Buttery smooth.

Been thinking of a tomcat. I work a route job and make multiple stops a day in bad areas and carry customer cash payments often. I need something light that can fit in my pants pocket and be quickly drawn and deliver accurate fire center mass from 3 to 5 feet in a rapid manner with minimal recoil. Maybe a tomcat ? It makes sense. I can always have the Glock 19 in my truck.

My Bobcat 21a is fun to shoot and indeed it is finicky regarding the ammo. I tried 14 different types of ammo and the all around, always cycles, doesn't fail to eject, etc. is the much maligned Remington Thunderbolt! Good Memorial Day to all and thanks for the good video.

We use thunderbolts for our range autos...I might be blowing smoke, but I've heard the thunderbolts are maybe .0005 skinnier than other .22 ammo, and thus cycle more reliably...all I know is the stuff works...

I grew up being told the bobcat was best for new shooters. The tilt barrel button and trigger really make it easy and safe. when not pointing down range keep the action open nothing can go wrong if you stress that the action stays open (till they’re confident)

I’ve got the Bobcat in .25 acp. I wish I had purchased the .22LR instead because I’ve barely shot it. It does hold 8+1 so it’s got slightly more capacity and center fire is supposed to be more reliable. Good video.

I have the Bobcat in .25 cap also. It is a older style gun in which the first round is single action only. Either you rack the slide which pulls back the hammer or if you put a round in the pop up barrel, you have to pull the hammer back with your thumb. The trigger does nothing if the hammer isn’t back. The mag release is near the bottom of the handle and the grips, which are wood, only has one screw on either side. The Bobcat, being an all metal gun and the .25 acp being a fairly light round, has very little kick. You can easily shoot it with one hand. My Ruger LCP in .380, being a light gun with a heavier round, kicks a lot more and is very difficult to shoot one handed.

For a range toy, 22 is more fun and wayyy cheaper cause you'll shoot it more. For an actual carry pistol 25acp was designed to always fire, and it does it's job well. Don't feel too bad, they're cool little pistols.

I owned one. I couldn't hit anything with it so I sold it for a .380 Bersa. The gun weighs a few ounces more than the Bobcat but I can get a full grip and can do much better at hitting a target. And, like the Beretta, the Bersa is still small enough to slip into my coat pocket when I go out.

The point of both the Tomcat and the Bobcat is their classic beauty or nostalgia. It's not always about power and capacity. If you were attending a "Black Tie Affair" your obvious choices are these two guns or a Walther PPK but the Walther is heavy and of questionable reliability. An LCP Max and a Tux screams "hillbilly in a rented suit."

I used to have one of the Bobcat models with the stainless finish. Back then I worked in a job that required a uniform that made it effectively impossible to hip carry. For context, I’m 6’4 and pretty chubby; I have larger hands than basically everyone I know, to the point I couldn’t even get a solid 2-finger grip on an LCP. The Bobcat was a perfect size. It was thinner than anything else I had, though the grip was much larger than they actually needed to be. In my case it worked out because it was just chunky enough to feel like you have a good grip, just minus the pinky finger. There is a reason I don’t have it anymore, though. Malfunctions started only after about 50 rounds because of how dirty the feed ramp got. It was wide enough that it widened the top of my pocket for people to see any time I was facing a different direction, and at one point my boss even saw it. For that reason alone I can’t call this a true pocket carry gun. And although it had a sizable grip in the hand, my hands were large enough that I encountered an accidental barrel unlocks while drawing, a potentially disastrous thing if I ever actually needed to use it. Turns out the latch would sometimes work loose from sitting while in my holster and would finally unlatch, or accidentally engage the barrel lock which was already in a weird half-lock position due to the small spacing of the controls. This would happen about once in a hundred draws, definitely worrying enough that I couldn’t trust it. Too bad though - these things scream class to me, almost like the Walther PPK

The slide on the 3032 is very tight when new but after shooting and practice racking it does become much easier to use. It gradually becomes a nice gun to rack. I think this due to very tight manufacturing tolerances.

I have a Bobcat 21A covert, I swapped the very pretty wood grips with Beretta rubberized grips to reduce width and increase grip for pulling from a pocket holster. The grip change works but it's a shame because the walnut is so pretty. But anyway, when I received mine the slide was so stiff that no amount of normal field cleaning was going to help. I was very stubborn because I really wanted it to work and I was hearing other people were having the problem as well, so I simple hand racked it over and over and over while watching movies or whatever. I didn't count but I bet it was near 2K before I thought it might actually cycle with a small 22LR for power. It worked and now cycles, but it's a big disappointment for some people, I'm sure it gets returned or sent back to Beretta for that. As to ammo, Federal has that new light weight 22LR Punch, self defense ammo, I think it's only 29g and a flat nose, nickle plated for weather resistance for EDC week after week. Did you get a chance to test that in your Bobcat? I don't have a suppressor for mine and was curious if it was too light to cycle properly then?

My stepmother’s back up gun when she was on patrol in the early 2000s was a Tomcat. She liked it and it seemed to run fine. My big issue w a gun like this is, as you note, the draw stroke.

I have had a Bobcat 21A in .25 caliber which was stole and now have had a Tomcat .32 wide slide! Both awesome built guns! So small & so dangerous if you have no training. I love these guns, but better be withing 35-50 feet of your attacker or target. The tip barrel is also nice if you want to train someone with a single shot! I've never had any issues with any type of ammo rounds!

That Bobcat 21A jams a lot. A LOT. Plenty of stovepipes and it likes premium ammo due to light strikes on primer. Fun gun to shoot along as you know what to expect.

They should also add an ejector because this gun just uses the pressure of the 22lr to eject the rounds. This makes it ammo picky.

My brother brought down his 1967, Italian-made 950B last weekend. Has only about 100 rounds on it - still has the original box - and not been fired in 50 years. I cleaned and lubed it, and we sent 50 rounds of 25 ACP down range. Never missed a beat! What a cool little gun! When my trigger finger is extended, it sticks out past the barrel!

Another advantage of the tip up barrel is that you never have to decock the hammer on a live round. This is a good safety feature IMO. Nevermind he covered that.

I own a Beretta Jetfire 950 BS 25 ACP I purchased back in the mid-90s.. very reliable in fairly accurate within reasonable distances.. approximately 4 years ago.. I purchased a used in mint condition Beretta21 bobcat..in .22LR .. blued steel wood grips.. manufactured sometime during the 1990s I believe..cci mini mags work but.. the gun really loves Remington yellow jacket and viper conical shape bullets.. absolutely not one jam with those

I have several. I literally think they are about perfect for what their purpose is. They can absolutely change someone’s attitude if forced into that role. But more importantly to me, they are just one of the handiest, most utilitarian, pistols currently manufactured, whether for hiking, knocking around in the woods, working around the farm, handling pest, poisonous snakes, and predators attempting to break into my daughters chicken house at night, and does so without waking up the neighbors or scaring the horses. It would not be good at fighting off a band a heavily armed ninjas, or some of the other outliers, like grizzly bear attacks, that seem to dominate the web. Thanks for the video

I love the 3032 tomcat it looks awesome With these new upgrades baretta could have gone all out and changed the magazine to a stack and a half mag, especially considering how wide the grip is on this gun, Infact you could probably fit a full double stack mag a have the exact same grip dimensions, And if it had a Milled grip directly onto the frame they could get rid of the grips and it would be thinner still, People will say it's not necessary but I think that with a grip that wide it made for it and probably 12 rounds in a flush mag would be a big upgrade.

I have owned a 21A since the early 1990s. It is everything you say it is, plus it is a well-made bit of kit. Yes, if I carry something smaller than my J-frame, it is likely to be my KT P-32, but I still keep the 21A around for range fun and to let recoil-sensitive shooters who may be intimidated by a larger gun have something fun to shot. Have not hoped on the .380ACP pocket pistol bandwagon, though I still have .45ACP and .40S&W pocket pistols.

Yeah, those are neat. The Minx is the .22 Short version of the Model 950. The .25 ACP version is the Jetfire. They're actually a bit smaller than the 21A and the 3032 and they're single action only instead of DA/SA.

My first gun was a 950BS M4 Minx with the slightly longer 3.75” barrel instead of the 2.5”. Great little gun. Very accurate (soda cans at 20 yards were toast!), beautiful finish and style. I had a leather speed scabbard holster and carried it when I got my concealed carry in the eighties. It cycled any standard or high velocity cartridge but the CB Caps were manually cycled - but with no extractor it was easier just to pop the barrel open, the empty would fly out and then single load the next round. They wouldn’t let me shoot it at the local range as it could be concealed entirely by my hand and the range officer could not monitor it. Lovely pistol.

Tried shooting a steel plate from a 100 meters away with the bobcat stock sights and I surprised myself because 5 out of 8 rounds actually hit the target which I did not thought was possible. Might have shitty sights but with enough practice and figuring out the angle you will get used to it. I did not think it was possible with a 2.4 inch barrel but turns out the trajectory was straight asf

I carry a Ruger LCR in 327 magnum. The revolver carries 6 rounds, the first 4 are wad cutters and the last 2 are Federal magnum rounds, which kick pretty good. When I feel the recoil of round #5, I know I only have one round left.

I’ve had a couple of .22 Bobcats for over. 30 years. I’d like to have a new one, but the sights are horrible for vision that is aging, even with orange paint on the hair- width front sight. Other then that, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed mine.

I bought a Tomcat a few months ago. I won't be carrying it often, but dang, it's a sweet little gun. Sure, the numbers favor a plastic .380 or sub-compact 9mm, but they are nowhere near as cool as an all-metal, walnut-grip Beretta .32 ACP. In my opinion, almost nothing else is that cool. That said, you still have to be choosy about ammo and reload on the low end of the power scale. I did paint my front sight bright orange, but sights are a moot point on these guns.

I like my Tomcat. A good summer carry and/or a backup. As far as ammo, be sure the Muzzle Energy is not greater than 130 ft lbs, per Beretta.

I really wished this could have come out a week ago. I just received a .32 Bobcat I bought for my mother in law. Because I had thought the tip up would be a work around weak hands. But that 12lb plus trigger weight and the difficulty of hitting the release make it unsuitable for weak hand shooters. Should have gotten the EZ in .380. Thanks Chris and Lucky Gunner

@8:24 the Bobcat manual recommends using CCI ammo. I've had some success with Aguila ammo matching CCI specs. Seems like slower speeds does it.

There are OTB covert holsters made to look like a cel phone case or similar. For most any gun, they are so oversized that it’s obvious they aren’t a cel phone case. However, for this little noisey cricket the holster is still small enough to pass for a cellphone case that it’s not noticeable.

I had a Beretta Mod 71, a no nonsense .22 single action, semi auto. I put well over 10,000 rounds through it. Worked perfectly. External hammer and I always use and practice one handed shooting. Cocking and de-cocking is simple as is cleaning. Being in Australia this was confiscated in a "buy back". Such a shame. Generally speaking, this was all the gun that was needed, however, my "other gun" was a .357 Mag. Which I also used single handed.

Great Video! I have both the Bobcat and the Tomcat in Inox. Two of the most enjoyable pocket pistols around to shoot. I have very large hands and those big Beretta grips made the Tomcat my go to for pocket carry until very recently when I discovered the Ruger LCP Max with the 12 round mag. There's a pistol I would love to see you review!
