@Jandyg7 ай бұрын
@@anchorbait6662. You didn’t ask me the question. But I’ve had my A400 12ga. For 6-8 years now. And put about 1500 rounds through it a year, so 9000-12000 rounds. She’s still holding her own, and I’m not planning on replacing her. As the new A400’s Don’t have the magazine cutoff feature. I use it all the time and love it. And yes 12,000 rounds could be a single trip to Argentina for doves. I’m a Beretta fan, but would never discourage a friend from buying a Benelli.

I've foud this video pretty informative, being a Benelli Montefeltro 20ga owner. Most of the clients we receive in our lodge (The Wild Bunch, in Uruguay) use Benellis or Berettas, Montefeltro 20 ga is among the most used for perdiz, ducks, pigeons and doves.

Thank you for the video. I've used a Beretta Extrema 3.5" 12ga for years. I like it so much I use it for pheasant, waterfowl and even trap. Today, I passed up a Beretta A400 and purchased a Benelli Montefeltro 3" 12ga. I paid $1100 for the Benelli whereas the Beretta was $1700. The only thing lacking in your video was a price comparison so I thought I'd throw that out there. The Montefeltro was a great buy at $1100 IMO.

I have quite a bit of time and experience shooting Beretta and Browning semi-autos, and my 12 ga Beretta AL390 Silver Mallard is the most reliable shotgun I own. I've had it for over 15 years shooting trap, skeet, sporting clays, pheasants, and lots of doves. In all that time it's never jammed or malfunctioned, from the lightest loads all the way through heavy 3" mags. The most amazing example being once about ten years ago, I was shooting some reloaded shells on a sporting clays range, and one particular reloaded shell didn't have any powder - shot, wad, and primer only. I pulled the trigger on that shell and heard a poof when the primer ignited, literally watched the shot and wad spit out of the barrel about five feet just from the pressure of the primer, but the gun still ejected the shell and locked the bolt back! It's been a fantastic shotgun.

I've had the 20 guage Montefeltro for 2 weeks and have not experienced any issues with function, nor have I had any trouble with loading the gun or getting bit. Unloading is a different story, and you really do need to sort of master the technique of pressing the latch and letting the tension send rounds from the tube. If you push on the latch and leave your finger in the reciever, there really isn't much room for the shells to slide forward. The real problem is with that last round, there doesn't seem to be enough tension on the spring to easily push that last shell out. Considering that I've been hunting the past almost 20 years with a side by side Stoeger- the Benelli looks, feels and shoots like a million bucks.

I love my Beretta 390, It has never made me want to go out and buy a newer Beretta, My experience with Benelli's has been limited to a M2 20 gauge with a rifled slug barrel. The gun wouldn't work with any slugs I tried through it so it's gone. I really wanted to like it because it handled beautifully. But at 1600 I felt it should function with everything I fed it and after spending another 4-450 dollars in sabot slugs none were reliable enough to hunt with. Plus accuracy was sub par.

I agree with everything you said, I would like to add one more issue: that is on my Benelli‘s at least on my Montefeltro you must load the shell correctly. By that I mean the shell has to be loaded so that the primer end is against the bolthead and laying on the feed latch. If the shell is loaded into the loading port and falls into the chamber when you press the bolt release the bolt will not rotate and you will not be able to load additional shells because the shell latch will be froze and closed. When birds start flying they won’t be dying you will be crying.

Good video and great points. Both great guns. I’ve preferred Benelli’s basically because they just pull up for me better and fits me better. One thing I’ve done with my benellis over the years is keeping them clean. This means once a year I clean them with Dawn soap and hot water and a toothbrush and scrub them clean. I’ve resurrected quite of few friends jamomatic benellis because they just weren’t clean. Some even brand new. Also I only use FP10 sparingly for lube. I basically throw away my Benelli oil.

I shot both a Beretta A400 XCEL 30" with a cole trigger + action tune, extended charging handle and paddle release vs. a Benelli Montefeltro Sporting in stock configuration ~150rds in each. For $1200, I bought the sporting vs $2,800 for the cole XCEL. Recoil in my opinion was nearly identical and not bad at all. Triggers were also very similar, I didn't notice much. Both guns cycled rounds fast. Both nearly identical in weight. Preferred the raised rib on the Montefeltro and red sight, significantly cheaper, by a ton.

Arguing which is better is like arguing whose grandma is better. I know your grandma is technically better, but I’ll love my Benelli’s! Lol. I have three SBE’s and a M2 I bought for my son. I set one up for clays loads, two for heavy loads. All have mercury, all have sure cycle springs, and all have kickeeze. But I love them. You can go buy a Beretta out of the box, leave it the same. Operate forever. Benelli’s have tricks you have to learn to make them perfect. Mine never fails. They do need to be cleaned after a 1000 rounds. A Beretta can probably go 2000 or more. I have shot 1000’s of clays, 100’s of waterfowl, and tens of pheasants. Saying all this,”The shotgun that is better, is the one that shoots better for you!” They both work. However, REM 1100, 1187 can fit many people, but they always broke. So there are exceptions.

Benellis still do have difficulty cycling lighter weight shells, usually 1oz or less. Mine certainly did and I only bought it 8 months ago now. With that being said once you break in the recoil spring houses in the stock they start working a lot better for you. At the moment I can shoot 1oz lode with some reliability. Occasionally it won’t eject a spent case so it’s still not perfect. Benelli recommends on their website to shoot 3de and 1 1/8oz sheep’s for my gun so that’s what I do and it’s very reliable. Benelli does make now some semis that will cycle stuff as light as 7/8oz, the Ethos being one of them I believe.

Both great pieces of equipment. I like Beretta for three reasons: Beretta has less felt recoil. Beretta doesn’t have that “mechanical” feel/noise on recoil. And Berettas will generally reliably cycle lighter loads than Benellis.

I currently own two 1980's model, Remington 1100 special fields with the short barrels and english stocks. Yeah a bit on the hvy side. by todays standards. But fine shotguns. Trouble is getting parts to keep them running smoothly. Currently awaiting a feeder latch from outer space lol.
@NOC1TIME3 жыл бұрын
As with you're informative information here. Guess my point is. Quality means Dependable. But much of it comes down to confidence in the shotgun. So much of wing shooting is mental as I have discovered over the years. As with fishing. There is your best fishing outfit for whatever your fishing for. It may or may not be the newest most exciting thing going. Main thing. You feel confident when you swing on a flush. That means it could be any number of good Guns. I have been all over the map with shotguns for bird shooting. What do you want ? That's the last and most significant question.
@NOC1TIME3 жыл бұрын
A quick note on my (non-working 1100.) To say that is near obscenity I know. lol. My ignorance. I well over oiled a gas system. Then ran some hvy pressure prairie storms through it. Feeder latch failed my fault. Yes. I can break the unbreakable lmao

Excelent review and comparison, as always! To me, it is Benelli all days of the week and twice on sundays, you know, I took the Mato rifle vaccine... In the late nineties, I bought the Beretta Mato as a primary boar and deer rifle, the barrel crown was funcked up from the factory and the gun never fired two shots less than 5 centimeters appart... To this day, everything that has Beretta or the logo on it, being T-shits, hats or sunglasses, I avoid like the plague. I do not know these days... But quality control and materiais were so poor back then, that we though the production was managed by drunken monkeys... In contrast, my Raffaello 12 gauge and Argo 9,3x62 are an absolute delght! Both in 20ga of which I completely agree on your argument that 20 ga is just as good as 12 ga and it all depends on how well they are patterned. But, I digress, I found that while the Beretta has softer recoil than the Benmelli (makes sense it being a gas gun) it was rather particular with the ammo I used. Once I "grooved" the Beretta with a particular load it was great as long as I shot the same ammo and kept it cleaned, in fact it was failsafe literally. The Benelli had slightly stiffer recoil (but, not bad at all) it literally shot premium or crap ammo equally well and cycled all of them perfectly as long as the gun was shouldered correctly. In hunting situation thats almost always the case. Missing the fact I could just run by WalMart and grab some cheapassed Winchester XX ammo, regardless of pressure and not be concerned with the type of load I was shooting. I sold the Beretta and bought a Franchi Affinity with a wood stock. As I've grown older. I have noticed asthetics are important to me and lets be honest most Benellis (even the wood stocked ones) are a bit "spacey" looking. I'm not into modern looking shit. The Franchi has the same great inertia system, looks as attractive as a Beretta and is about $500 to $700 less expensive than the other two because you arent buying a name, yet they are made as well as the Beretta and the Benelli.

The Affinity is a solid shotgun for the price.

“Beretta Holdings owns: Beretta USA, Benelli, Franchi, Stoeger (part owned by Benelli), Sako and a little more.”… same company dummy

The difference between the two KO systems is that the new KO up forward. So that the stock doesn’t move against your check. It’s a big deal when shooting big shells or high volume shooting. Edit; The new KO in the middle of the stock, is a huge improvement. Aftermarket recoil systems cost upwards of $2000. And the KO comes factory and works wonderfully.

Sold a Benelli SBEII to buy my Beretta A400 eight seasons ago. After shooting 6 boxes of target loads I was convinced I was shooting a gun with only marginally more kick than a cap gun. So soft a shooter I was disappointed only in the fact I didn't have 6 more boxes to burn up that day. It made me want to throw rocks at every inertia gun I ever shot... especially an SBEII.

That mirrors my reaction the first time I shot an A400 with the Kick-Off system.
