Fernando does the basics of pressure passing and deep half better than anyone, so tight and so much pressure. Love your style, will be watching your DVD for sure.

What a coincidence, because my next DVD will be exactly like this... I filmed myself training, doing only half-guard, and I commented during the rolls. Thanks for the support. OSSSS

Thanks for posting this Bernardo. Not sure if it is also addressed specifically on your DVDs but it would be awesome to hear your thought process on how you counter or resist some of the common counters to your over-under pass. I think most everyone is familiar with basics of the pass but you are able to overcome the stiff arming and pushing that everyone does. Great job!
@FraldinhoBJJ5 жыл бұрын
ericplattaz the angle . Getting an angle and tucking your head is key. If you have no angle and pressure forward it either scoots the opponent away from you , or you away from the opponent. When you tuck the head in the far hip, and don’t bring the pressure straight forward , but circle your hips instead , and get out to the side , the push is less effective . Also the opponent gets so consumed with trying to push you away he enables the pass. People have a notion that the Pass is enabled by pushing your hips away but it’s more that on the side of he hip his head goes to he feeds that same side hand grip further and further . He starts over under grip then grabs the pants with that hand then the waist , then belt . At that point there is a connection with your head tucked and the hand. At this point Bernardo just keeps floating the hips with angled pressure until he can pass your leg with his leg and keep the pressure coming until he can grab your collar and simply hip switch around your push , or he keeps the pressure until you flatten enough he can just step over . At the point when he passes before he secures the three points he is NO LONGER bringing forward pressure . He has you flat on your back essentially pushing down and he’s as close to a 45 degree angle as possible . The biggest mistake people make is overestimating the fact that you WILL get tired here and burn your hips and grips before he gets tired of putting pressure and you need to move to a more suitable means of control . It’s actually fairly easy to threaten a choke here to get a spider guard going or to invert so he’s forced to disengage at least to stop his pressure and start an offense again, which essentially here is not letting him solidify the connection and grip on the over side . Big detail here too his though it makes sense to stop his ability to pressure and to not forcefully pressure back and tire your self , don’t get lazy on the leg he is attempting to pass because he’s simultaneously baiting you to try to re elevate the “under “ side leg which he can easily trap and knee bar since his connection to your hip , belt , gi waist line keeps his chest about level with your knee(perfect fulcrum for the kneebar there ) Here’s where the rubber meets the road ; Bernardo is an expert at knowing your psychology when resisting this pass and this is one of the oldest lessons of Jiu jitsu contained here. Don’t EVER GET COMFORTABLE playing his game . Erberth had a judgement call to make ; and he played right into Bernardo’s game . He thought “well I really have two choices , I can let him pull his deep half and sweep me or deal with his over under pass.” In that , he lost before this match even began because his thinking was “I can play Bernardo’s game or I can play Bernardo’s game.” This is why it’s important for black belts to not only have an effective game but a big toolbox so sometimes you don’t use your flashiest moves and most well practiced but you go to high percentage techniques you aren’t exactly the best known for to get passed the guy .

From what I have seen of Faria's matches, his style either works exceptionally well or it's a complete bust. There is no in between.
@melofrommars52776 жыл бұрын
What would be the inbetween? You either win or you lose. The dude is always up there with the best in the world and I'm sure he would smash 98% of the BJJ black belt world.
@biggideal4 жыл бұрын
Can you explain to me why this match was a bust? I'm new to the sport, and he looks like he defended REALLY well. Am I wrong?,
@KaninTuzi2 жыл бұрын
@@biggideal Defended? He was basically on the offence in most of the match. Not a bust. I think the commentator was counting this match as an example of the style working exceptionally well. But I have no idea what examples he would give of the style going south
