I'm in a great gym with many dedicated, talented and supportive members. 64 y/o PB. Based on age, size and ability, all I can do is maintain excellent health. Roll with everyone. I loose to more than I win; but I will keep training. Inertia. My Striking/JJ informs everything else in my life. I hope to be rolling in ten years. While I don't expect to beat larger people half my age, I will be there, and I will be better tomorrow than I am today. Oss!

I guess my take on this comes from the complete opposite side as non competitor. I’ve trained about 10 years as a hobbyist who never competes and simply do bjj as an activity I enjoy. To me the learning process is the part I enjoy and getting better in competitive rolls is just natural byproduct of that learning. I definitely have hit plateaus in terms of performance over the year but imo it’s virtually impossible to hit plateau in learning. Therefore, when performance lags or plateaus I make conscious effort to focus on/recognize the new things I’ve learned as a way to reinforce I’m progressing even when it’s not necessarily evident live.
