Just bought one of the little torches just like yours at Home Depot. They still use a cork gasket in that model.

I have the same, old UI2317 torch. For what it’s worth, the terminology is: Nozzle (instead of “head” or “tip”), and Igniter (instead of “striker” or “electrode”). 🤷🏻‍♂️ Your mother gave you a torch at 10 years old. That’s about like my father giving me my first rifle at 10. I still have that rifle too! 👍🏻 The difference in flame shape is due to the difference in nozzle designs. You can get several different nozzles for the old, brass UI2317.

Hi nice to be here, you actually have a tool we use here in the shop. We just upgraded after only 5 years not your 40 years, in late 2018 to a bigger, better to us trigger and value control for us. , we have moved to the TS7000 all metal knobs are all the difference we are seeing physically anyways but wow does this tool work so much easier for us now then with the standard nozzle the kit started out with, we actually us this tool, usage per month, we would say a time or 2 per month in the shop. The two of us are not experts we are in the heating of steel parts for hardening and we solider our own plumbing additions and repairs to our place of home and work that is all. Thank you for the experienced share to allow us a better understanding of our tools ability, Lance & Patrick.

May i ask what would a young kid use the torch for? You were probably a responsible kid for your mom to buy it for you. But just curious as to what you used it on.

I melted and bent glass and taught myself to solder copper pipe with it. I am glad I didn't burn down the house.

the one i got is similar to yours all brass with a corck seal but the tip is different it has a nut with the air holes just a couple inches under the tip tube i think it creates a different flame and def the nozzle on your's is not like mine which is more like a disc with a center hole in it but very finicky adjustment knob you start turning it high and the flame goes down at first sometimes before going up when its going from small to high that is and sometimes can not work inverted and blows out i tried cleaning the bits on the inside but probably was a bad idea it is very unstable flame but works ok once you get it going and does work inverted but like i said finkcy i just removed it from the tank cause i heard the seals go bad if stored that way and i was surprised to see it was corck but maybe those are better still i do not want it compressed when not in use

Will these traditional torch heads burn just as hot as the ts8000?
@mattwarrensocal
@mattwarrensocal Жыл бұрын
The flame might be hot but the ability of the larger vortex flame to wrap around pipes you're heating is what makes it better. Plus you can use map pro gas with the 8000 which even though it's only slightly hotter than propane it is more efficient. The pencil torch is propane only. I've fixed plenty of plumbing leaks with just the pencil torch but now do more advanced stuff with the 8000.

This was a great little demo. Nice to see the pros and cons. I actually just came back from Lowes and bought the cheaper all manual model. The kit came with the tank and all. I really don't know what I am doing but got to do some plumbing water heater tank work and while at the store decided against the fancier self-igniting model becase (a) it was more expensive, (b) don't know what I am truly really doing, just a vague idea, hence why would a DIYer need some'n that "fancy" (c) when that igniter gives our and stops working....then the whole nozzle has to be re-purchased? Still I did find your video very useful, I am struggling to light it. I noticed that you insulated our garage door?
