Joe Rogans buddies are THE definition of getting lucky. They think they’re special but they’re not. They got lucky, had the right friends, were in the right spot and had stupid luck. When people say anyone can get rich, no, most people who are rich were lucky and had a TON of help. Like Segura and Bert.

I’m just not convinced he quit drinking. “Not drinking” for Bert has always been a completely different thing than “not drinking” for the regular person. He’s the kind of person who can drink a mixed drink in the evenings but still say with a bold face that he quit drinking. He’s always been a walking contradiction and a picture perfect description of denial.

As someone that goes to AA, Bert has struggles with step 1. He's very dishonest with himself and that's dangerous(incredibly common with alcoholics). I hope the dude starts taking it serious because he's getting to the age where his health is going to drop off a cliff. He's kinda in a rough spot for alcoholics because he can convince himself that alcohol has helped his career and since he's incredibly successful it isn't a problem.

@@ZeranZeran Yes, I kind of liked him when the Machine story exploded, but after that it was always the same thing: he was everywhere, with Bill Burr, with Rogan, with Segura, thousands of podcasts, thousands of pointless videos... He is burning himself fast, and also is Segura. And you start to hate the things that you liked about him because it gets old very, very fast. He doesn't reinvent himself, the T-shirt thing is now annoying, his party thing, especially at his age, is super annoying, him wanting to speak over his gests and making it about him is ultra super annoying... If he just brought it down a notch and let other people speak without interrupting... It's like he is anxious to speak, it's like breathing for him.

Im not the biggest fan of Joe’s comedy, but he seems to be a hell of a good person and friend. He shares the spotlight and goes to bat for his friends when they screw up (see Ari). He cares about their well-being (see Schaub and Bert). And lastly, hes not judgemental or hostile until someone forced him to act that way. It’s refreshing to see someone so famous just be a genuinely good person.

As a gambling addict currently going through gamblers anonymous Bert has a big problem. One of the things I learned is even if you only gamble once a year but when you do gamble you can't control it then you're an addict, sake with alcohol. It's not the fact it's a daily thing, it's when you consume it you can't control yourself and Bert obviously fits that.

He denies that he’s an alcoholic but only because he denies the definition. He’s been harassed about it too much now to not be mildly honest about it, but he won’t accept what it means to be an alcoholic. I might agree with him if it was something more benign like marijuana, but excessive alcohol consumption is and will continue to physically kill him. I believe his assessment that he can stop having a drink whenever, physically, I don’t think he’s physically addicted. He’s absolutely mentally addicted to it though and doesn’t acknowledge the harm. That’s what’s the issue right now, he needs to acknowledge that being able to quit doesn’t mean continuing to do it is healthy, it’s still killing him either way, and he’s no better than the dependent alcoholics that he describes

The thing is, I've been to the airport many, many times. I've been through hell dealing with baggage claims, ticket attendants, anything and everything you can think of. Not once did I start swearing at the employees and calling them degrading, disgusting names. I know it's not one person's fault unless it literally is something they messed up, but they still don't deserve to be degraded at their job, or anywhere. It just makes me mad how Tom Segura talks like everyone does it and it's so normal and funny. Before I end this rant, I just have to say I cannot stand his wife.

You seem like a good dude who is really empathetic. Yes, there is definitely a competency crisis in a lot of industries. It is frustrating when things get fucked up. I will complain privately to friends sometimes and even that I need to stop. However, usually, it's a comedy of errors and not one person's fault. I also don't think yelling or degrading someone is the right thing to do.i just don't have that in me. Surely we all have bad days where we might be snarky, However if Tom thinks this is OK then he may not be the type of person I dont want to follow even just for laughs or entertainment.

@@lukep757 thanks, I like to believe that I am. I still feel bad about stuff that doesn't even matter that happened like 10 years ago. lol... People definitely have to understand that working at a place like an airport is hectic and there's so many moving parts to it. Boarding can be messed up or delayed because there's a pipe that broke and their truck is blocking the plane from getting into position. That has absolutely nothing to do with the boarding attendant and it is completely out of their hands, yet people will call them the nastiest things you can imagine. People are definitely unbearable sometimes.

@@lukep757 well said. There's definitely a competency issue plaguing the country, as well as a nihilism that contributes to it. I know ppl view burger flipping as a job, not a career, myself included. However, one should still try to do a good job because you are still being paid. Ppl don't care and when you bring your issues forth, they mock you for demanding quality at some point throughout the transaction. It's enough to limit me going out and expecting ppl to be as decent as they were 10(+) years ago

😂 Bert's like that one guy in every friend-group that just takes things so far and is so dramatic to the point everyone has to conspire around them in order to keep the peace & sanity. But it becomes so taxing for everyone involved, like we see from Joe. It's one thing to adopt that frat-boy persona knowing it's just that: a persona. Then there's Bert who genuinely thinks he's that same guy he was 30 years ago in college, even though he's pushing 50+ with a full on family and mortgage. Although if JP can label himself a "professional boxer" whilst never actually fighting a professional boxer, why not right?

You'll find this is a common trait in almost every addict, immaturity. I've had professionals say that it's that first time you ever drank or drugged is your mental age. Drank the first time at 15 and you're an addict? You probably act like you're 15 a lot of the time still.

As much shit as people talk about Bert, at least he is making an effort to be sober. Kicking alcohol is no walk in the park, especially when you drink as much as he does so kudos to him. Being sober for a whole two months is an accomplishment
@Fallen9xX
@Fallen9xX Жыл бұрын
Alcoholics can quit drinking for a month or two at a time while standing on their head. There are literally sub-classes of alcoholism (examples: alpha, beta, gamma) that show how alcoholism operates differently in people. Also the way Burt views quitting drinking means that he most likely still has drinks, just not as much as he normally would
@tjshaver855
@tjshaver855 Жыл бұрын
If he's really been sober, yes that is something. Good for him. I'm a recovering alcoholic and my opinion is that he's lying. I have no proof, just a life of experience being like him and being around people like him. He has zero humility and until he gets it, there will be zero growth. Just my opinion, just throwin it out there.
