***SPOILERS*** Dangit, Sheepy! Last time, I was like "Wow, so this has gotten really bad for our protagonists! I can't imagine that it could get worse," or something along those lines. *Clearly* seeing that as a challenge (or just generally being a butthole), Sheepy took it upon himself to up the ante even further. Can it get worse than this? I'll just pretend that it can in the hopes that Sheepy won't add in Cthulhu himself next session. So, speaking of strange gods, Harald has unwittingly found his mind pierced by one: some god of blood. Needing little convincing at the promise of power, the wolf-man guzzled a goblet full of dream-blood and turned into something that looks like the "hybrid" thingy at the end of the Underworld film, but with a spiffy skull mask/helm. It sounds as though he may have more control over himself as well, but I deeply question his allegiances at this point. The draugr lack the warm blood that he (and that strange god) so eagerly wish to draw, while the remaining villagers and the surviving vikings have gallons of the stuff between them. And what's worse is that he just became more powerful, with big ol' stat gains which I assume will make him nigh-unbeatable in one-on-one combat. Yikes. I just mentioned the villagers, so on that note, they were threatened, tortured, killed a bit, etc. this episode. As it is later mentioned that they have been making offerings, it sounds like they essentially created the draugr army, and have been fueling - or at least attracting - these ancient deities/beings. As for those offerings, I'm wondering if it's as simple as just animal blood, or if they've been slaughtering outsiders passing by, or unpopular townsfolk? If they're killing people for their boons, then my sympathy for them would be pretty non-existent. Speaking of strange gods *and* killing people for boons, Sven was approached by some god of the hunt in his dreams, and the pair began to barter for viking survival. Unfortunately for the vikings, this deity also wanted the taking of viking lives. I'm noticing a trend here. At least I watched a few episodes of Vinland Saga so I don't feel too bad about vikings dying! It would seem that Sven has committed to betraying the majority of his comrades to save himself and a few close allies. The wording of the bargain about "safe passage" and the village and boats has me curious, though. Who knows what treachery or certain death might be waiting for him there? To be fair, of course, if he betrays his fellow warriors, can we feel that much pity if the god gets him killed, too? Finally, we have Leif, who continues to suffer from his ongoing paranoia. Well, that's not fair. You're only paranoid if you're wrong about all those people/things being out to get you, and Leif seems to be in the figurative crosshairs of just about everything around him. Even fellow vikings are a potential threat at this point, and the village walls are the only thing he feels are keeping him safe. When Sven attempted to no doubt indulge in some shenanigans, Leif and he ended up engaged in a heated argument, with Leif's own comrades stating that they won't do as he says. Now, Leif and Sven are agreed to enter into a duel. The crap really has hit the metaphorical fan. Where will things go from here? Aside from a duel and more people dying, I'm not certain, but we'll have to wait until next week to find out!
