Thanks. Very interesting - you added information and analysis to what I already knew of this horrible event. You also put the event in a wider historical context - your series is building in an effective way. Putin knows that repetition of a phrase is helpful for indoctrination, especially if multiple sources use the same phrase. And a crisis is an opportunity - for those who are willing to exploit it ruthlessly.

I have been in Russia from 2004 and I did not understand well how stealthily Putin took over all the branches of power in Russia - legislative, judicial and executive. This is an excellent summary of the key aspects of how he did it, even in his first term. It is tragic on a human level, for the people losing their relatives in a terrorist attack and it is tragic in the larger picture, as Russians have been stripped of the citizen rights of voting and legal safety so fast. He is most likely enjoying the position of "savior of the Russian people", a healer of the Russian sense of dignity and also as a person bringing material wealth to ordinary Russians. These terror attacks have benefitted him as does the war in Ukraine now. When will the majority of Russians wake up to the reality of this nighmarish cleptocracy?
