After the loss of my Son to suicide I blacked out and read your book to aid in healthy grieving. My Son was brutalized and mentally abused by his girlfriends and subsequently killed himself. On page 78 your book speaks of a woman being brutalized by her boyfriend. Many women take advantage of this type of language and the law is on their side. I feel I can state this because I was abused and still feel that not just men should be labeled as abusers. I don’t pretend to be more intellectual than you or anyone else as I just want society to look at each case fairly. The change starts with important MD’s and authors such as yourself. This is an appeal from a fan of your work. Your book has helped me understand my body and with mindfulness I can grieve in a more healthy way one step at a time.

Are you talking about the body keeps the score? I read the beginning of it and I found the medication that I'm taking de motivates people but I still haven't found anyone to be able to help me get off of it! Does it say anything about that in the book until I reach there?💕

Many women and men have what are referred to in the DSM as Cluster B personality disorders, specifically narcissistic, borderline and histrionic personality disorders. Whether or not trauma has played a role in their becoming that way, they certainly can bring trauma into the lives of those around them with their unrelenting abuse. I'm very sorry for the loss of your son, and wish you the best for your own recovery.

It's very well known in psychology that women can be abusers.

@@Grimenoughtomaketherobotcry hi, please do not demonize bpd or any other mental illnesses like that, my bpd made me a victim, not an abuser so we have to be soo careful never to generalize like that as it's damning for people like myself.

Totally accurate1 >> 4:58 to End: Mindfulness >> "Learning to love what you discover in yourself" Loving Self-Compassion. YES, and Yes. >> "Achieving that sense of inner calm, inner peacefulness... IS what we are aiming for these days." YES, and YES! THIS is the medicine the whole world needs now! Let's bring THIS to the forefront!! Thank you so much!

I really want to try neurofeedback. I have had a lot of healing from EMDR for PTSD, but through that I discovered that I also have Complex PTSD. I would like to try neurofeedback for that. I have previously had Compassionate Mind Therapy and it was brilliant!

I tried Neurofeedback 6 months ago and it's the best thing I have ever done. EMDR was not so effective. But 30 session of Neurofeedback with Neuroptimal was amazing. I sleep and eat better. I have better concentration. I would recommend this to everyone 😉👍

Years ago I read trauma is emb edded in the cells of the body. If that is so, cells are constantly being replaced ... why have I attracted the same type men who are emotionally abusive.. i had shiatsu massage during my divorce. It brought relief in the form of tears. After the last barrage of men complicating my life. I no longer cry. And I have picked up a sadist. Who I feel thrives on seeing me humiliated by sending important men my way knowing full well I also have a cognitive impairment from a concussion I had in 2001. Have not had neurologic intervention. Im a body walking around attracting men I am incapable of interacting with.

@@Kareena1988 my mind isnt even thinking of being with a man. Im struggling to survive. I put myself through 7 years of college. It wasnt until I started posting on a rock star messageboard that conmen and sick minded individuals started following me from the celebrity realm. Ive had countless cross dressers and mixed up people attaching to me. It isnt my mind. These people targeted me to rescue them.

Follow cognitive behavioral therapy. Due to certain cognitive patterns formed in childhood, you unconsciously choose partners like this. The pattern/schemas may be Emotional Deprivation, Subjugation, or Fear of Abandonment etc. We sabotage ourselves by not dealing with the patterns that form in early childhood. I'm still learning about all these as a future psychotherapist. I wish you all the best. We all have problems... 🍀❣️🤗

You will make a lousy therapist. Dr. Van derkolk deals with trauma. Why did you answer? I've had men traumatize me. Stay the hell away from me. With your fake name. I didn't pick or look for any man. It was very clear I was looking to reconnect with an educational setting. You are as bogus as the pseudo men who captured me.

Loving your self is good! Hopefully it is the right loving yourself, because it says in God's Word that in the end times , which we are living in, their are many who will be self-loving, money-loving, proud, arrogant, insulting, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, uncontrolled, brutal, hateful of good, traitorous, headstrong, swollen with conceit, loving pleasure rather than God, as they retain the outer form of religion but deny its power.

I am often told I look 10 years younger than I am. However, developmental trauma re-wired my brain to the point that now, my autonomic nervous system functions very poorly. I am physically and psychologically very ill, but look extremely healthy. Don't judge a book by its cover.

That's actually a really interesting point and something that I've often wondered also. I mean it's a spectrum ultimately right? Also like Ben Serkowski says it's two different things I'd tend to have to agree with that.
