Second even if I wasn’t there is a chance some (not all) of the crusaders who went with Sigurd the crusader were still pagan because in Sweden there was a pagan rebellion that Sigurd defeated on his way back from said crusade if I remember correctly.

If Richard the Lionheart played chess he would have taken away the Queen piece (and probably put a man in her place) adopted all the powers of the Queen, and only use that piece to fight against all the other pieces. He wasn't a good king that is unquestionable. But he was a TRUE BEAST on the battlefield, going straightforward against the enemy being on the first line. Normally soldiers go first and the king is in the middle so in that order they can protect their majesty But Richard was a reckless bastard he was the one who protected his soldiers and positioned himself on the first line. That was also a negative aspect of his life but also his most cherished quality. The association with the Lion wasn't made up for anything and you have tho be a truly skillful fighter and a scary man for making someone as incredible as Saladin ran away from his base by just knowing that Richard was coming. He was a undefeatable opponent on the eyes of the Muslims. He was the devil on the Eyes of Filip II He was a loyal leader for the eyes of his friends and his soldiers a lot of them outlived him but stayed by his side until the end. He was a lovely son for the eyes of hid mother. He was a bad king for the eyes of the people of England. And maybe I think what he wanted more than anything was trusting someone, I think he forgive a lot of his rivals like William Marshall and his own brother for this reason. After Filip's betrayal he wanted to feel secure at someone's side. That is the reason why despite all the horrible things he did, a lot of his soldiers considered him more like a friend than a leader, a Mercenary named "Mercadier" I think got to know Richard over years and years and when he died cried deeply for the king, and his wife was also devastated, never married again after his death that tells you a lot about how you treat your people. We have to think that history isn't written on stone and I think Richard was a better man with his family and friends that he was as a king, but that's a part that has been forgotten about him.

I think, like the Normans, he had great writers. Richard started conflict at a whim for only himself, taxed heavily for only himself. His own father cursed him and he blatantly used the Crusades to bolster his reputation. As soon as he arrived at Acre he distributed bribes to fragment Philip's troops and threw his weight around so much Philip would have likely left even if he wanted to stay. Richard could have taken Jerusalem. There'd no way a logistician of his immense talent would have committed that far otherwise. He didn't care it couldn't be held, he was never going to stay for that. He did, however, realise it'd take too long so he abandoned his oath to go home. He was quote arguably the best general at that time, but he was a douche that needed a reform filled rule to turn around. We'll never know after he died, but things fell appart so easily we must question how good his reign was

The castle belonged to a Scottish Lord and he already lost a big majority of his men to the renegades (either dead or became renegades themself). They were getting ready for the final charge and they decided they will face the enemy with honour on the field rather than die behind walls. They were outnumbered and shit. Honestly being a Jester was actually a pretty good gig if you were good at it. A good Lord, Baron, Duke, and even King would take good care of their court Jester.
