Root armor's been my favorite armor for exploring the Plains, so far, because the reduced pierce damage means you don't actually almost die every time a Deathsquito sneaks up to you from behind. Gotta test going combo armor for the Plains - root chest piece plus iron or wolf armor.

Deathsquitos are a joke even with level 1 silver armor. They have been nerfed into oblivion since their attack interval is like 10 seconds now. Big lost opportunity to skip testing fire damage. I found a video testing combo armor and potions in plains though. Can't argue with those numbers when it comes to 1st going into the Mistlands, but the viable options increase once you've got established. I've recently been running with conventional weapons (sword, buckler, bow and sledge), but with full Fenris set, lvl 2 staff of protection and 1 hp food replaced with eitr food. At my current skill lvl the bubble is 280 hp, which totally negates the need for the carapace armour set, plus you get the movement speed and fire resistance thrown in from the Fenris set. I still parry and dodge attacks as usual, but that bubble has saved me from several 3rd party attacks from the mist that even carapace armour would have struggled with. Gjall in particular seem attracted to the noise of mining, logging and fighting.

Great combo for movility but not so YOLO as full fenris armor. Remember that seeker soldiers do not apply pierce but blunt damage, therefore the root armor will not have any effect. (Great video reviewing these extra considerations as well!)

Some important details about root armour that wasn't mentioned in this video: 1) You have higher mobility than with padded armour, so you can dodge most enemies and run away easier if the situation gets to hot. 2) If using the whole set, you have highly increased bow skill, so you need fewer arrows to kill each enemy. Very useful when entering Mistlands early on, when the key is to avoid melee as much as possible. I recently went to Mistlands with root armour on a map where we had only killed Elder so far (but found silver with the stagbreaker). I died much less than on another map, where I used padded armour. No problem entering infested caves and so on, as long as you're careful.

You should've finished the video. The actual point is 5:50. If you're using the padded cuirass you're not getting the resistance bonus. But there's an argument to be made for full fenris because you get the blessing. The only problem is that you can quite easily get 1 hit killed if you miss a single dodge or you're still running mid-tier foods.

There is no full armour set that ticks all the boxes for me. The problem is that, even when I enter the Mistlands, I only spend part of my time there. I also still spend time in the Plains, Mountain and Swamp as well. Changing my armour combo for the biome, sometimes a couple of times a day, makes no sense. I want one set that will serve me through all biomes. The Root Harnesk is just a no-brainer. Even with Mistlands, the monster that hits me the most, due to its ability to just buzz in from nowhere, is the Deathsquito. Reducing its damage to single digits with the Harnesk is an easy decision. That it renders Spear Fulings essentially harmless, and helps against Seekers too, is just gravy. I haven't found Gjalls to be a problem. Running away and kiting them avoids their fire damage. In any case, I tend to just avoid them as I don't make Bile Bombs much so they don't have good loot. I mostly aggro them and then run to Dvergr towers so that the Gjall wipes out the tower, meaning I can take the Dvergr items without having to aggro/fight them. I'm actually more concerned with Fuling Shamans, which can destroy you when wearing Root Harnesk. If I'm clearing out a Fuling village, I'll tend to use the Yagluth power. For helmet, I use the Padded for extra armour rating. Feather Cape is another no-brainer which also gives me the Freeze protection needed for Mountains. For legs, I use the mage set. I'm not a full-on magic user, I only use it occasionally to lob fireballs from range dealing big AoE damage. It's handy when clearing out Fuling villages or Infested Mines. Just a bit of mana regen is required and the mage pants fit the bill. Add in a Carapace Shield for big block ability and I have a loadout I can wear all day in any biome and feel comfortable.

Why not just use serpent shield with padded armor? It's resistant to pierce. You can't parry but it could save your bacon against large groups of seekers, especially in dungeons.

Speaking to the increased fire dmg using the root chest, wouldn't the Barley wine help with that?
@jamespeterson12582 ай бұрын
The barley wine resistance completely overwrites all weakness to fire, so yeah definitely. You would just be Resistant with the wine active, even if you have the feather cape's "very weak to fire"

My prev equipment is Fenris armor pieces, combined with the mage cap and eikthyr-or-how-it's-spelled-buff. Nothing beats speed, jumps and dodges and you can glide much faster.

A patch several months ago allows your armor rating to reduce not only physical damage, but all damage types. Having higher armor values will bet better than mix and matching. Also, if you want that pierce resistance, used Padded Armor and a Serpent scale shield. Best of both worlds.

You don't need speed if you're capable of parrying, and you can still dodge hits in heavier armor. Fact is, if you have heavy armor and eat a hit, it's basically 0 damage with two mistlands HP foods to begin with. Plus, what's stopping you from dodging hits in heavy armor? You can perfectly dodge every Gjall projective even in full padded

Fire resistance potion completely negates the fire damage even when wearing the root harnesk. So entering the mistlands, root harnesk + padded + fire resist potions will be your most protected combo. Fenris offers decent fire resistance too but I believe the potions are stronger. Your choice there though as the movement speed buff is *chefs kiss*

I gotta ask, is it worth keeping the root chest piece even when you get to carapace armour, do you think. Great video, thx!
@raphaelgoncalves79 Жыл бұрын
probably yes, carapace atm is only 2 extra defense per piece, probably the way to go for maximum reduced damage is root chest and the rest carapace, instead of whole root set like shown

From the brief bit of testing I did with comparing level 2 carapace chestpeice with the level 4 root armor chestpeice (with otherwise full carpace armor, so helmet and greaves), and its a very similiar outcome as it was with comparing the padded chestplate with the root chestplate (the resistance towards peirce is better for general seeker encounters than just the plain 34 armor the carapace chestplate gives you) so yes I would say its definetly worth it currently... might be a different story once we have level 3/4 carapace armor available tho
