I LOVE DURIAN! And that's a totally wrong way to open one. Lol! Durian and mangosteen come in the same season. Durian is the king of fruit and mangosteen is the queen. Well, at least that's what we call it here in Malaysia :D
@KaleHello10 жыл бұрын
Well obviously these are Asian Americans who don't know how to correctly open a durian. lol There's a trick to it--you have to see which side has the most based on your observations and then start finding the "line" to cut open from there. Very simple once you get the hang of it.
@KaleHello10 жыл бұрын
Poi Yee Chow LOL.. I believe he's mixed black? He looks half asian, half black? But yeah if you pay attention closely, the words he says is not as accented meaning that he probably hasn't had an education on the Vietnamese language. It's not that hard to learn.. just enroll yourself into a vietnamese school and utilize your Vietnamese and engage in conversations.
@kayspace110 жыл бұрын
YAAAAAAAS. Fellow Malaysian! >:D I don't understand how Durian is so stinky when it smells like heaven. Plus, you open it with a butcher knife, not a cutting knife xD

kayspace1 I tried a durian sweet bar from my local Asian store. Lets just say most of it ended up in the trash. Three week old garbage in the heat of summer smelled better than what that bar tasted like.
@smutpow10 жыл бұрын
I may be wrong, but the reason why Durian is the king is because of the thorns and the smell (for those who dislike it) while the mangosteen is the queen is because of the purple sap of the skin. Get it on your clothes and you can kiss it goodbye.

Some of the fruits mentioned here aren't really "Asian" because they are not native to East Asia nor to Southeast Asia. For example, dragonfruit (Hylocereus undatus), also known as pitaya blanca, came from Central America or West Indies. Passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) is native to Brazil and Northern Argentina. Cherimoya (Annona cherimola) came from South America, specifically in the mountainous Andes region. The arrival of these fruits to Asia was the inevitable result of the Columbian Exchange. I really encourage the video makers to learn more about the history of these fruits before calling them "Asian fruits".
@singkilfilipinas55748 жыл бұрын
+Chad Ceredon I'd call the fruits "fruits that Asians eat", not exactly "Asian fruits". Plus, the fruits I've mentioned above are still cultivated in the New World. But yeah, I understand what you are trying to say.
@yukitong889 жыл бұрын
Um... Cherimoya (Chirimoya) is actually from South America. It grows all around Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia. Then it was brought to Central America and eventually Asia. Great channel, though. I'm curious to try the rest of the fruits :). Greetings from Peru :)
@singkilfilipinas55748 жыл бұрын
+Yuki Tong Yes, Chirimoya came from South America. Dragonfruit is also not a native Asian fruit. It most likely came from Central America or the Caribbean.

oh man the durian part made me feel sick...I can't do durian. It smells like feet mixed with rotten meat and dirty laundry and the taste isn't much better, plus since it's so soft it feels like it's rotten to me. For those that don't know, you actually aren't allowed to take durians on the trains in Singapore (because they are so smelly) and you'll be fined if caught with one. But dragonfruit and rambutan are really delicious. Wish I could find them more easily where I live. One thing I love about traveling around Asia was the availability of delicious fruits. (And sorry to the durian lovers! heh I know some people think it's great...but then again some people also love natto [Japanese fermented soy beans that tastes worse than durian]....Heeey...FungBros, I have a great idea for another video ;) )
@mentoswatthehell10 жыл бұрын
LOL i love durian, but my sisters hates it just like i hate ginger and she loves ginger. to each his/her own. :P
@SunnysRoyalSkipper10 жыл бұрын
heh exactly! I know some people that love it. A friend of mine's Mom loves it but his Dad hates it, so he makes her eat it outside. :P But, I'm sure there are things I like that others don't (ginger being one!) so I am not trying to hate. Just personally not something I like.
@mentoswatthehell10 жыл бұрын

hahaha I don't like blue cheese either! I think it's those sort of strong flavors are too much for me. I'm from America but I used to live in Japan and I've traveled a little around SE Asia, so that's where I experienced these fruits and a lot of the snacks they talk about in other videos.
