most fighting systems comes with it's own measure and range. to have an understanding and knowledge of these ranges, this is a must to learn but it isn't something to impose on others as the way. their bodies structure and reach is their range to find. many don't care for pausing, others rush-in, and others keep the body alive, slowly moving forward until their bodies are inside the enemy space, or simply keeps the body in-place and in motion while waiting to counter.

Most fighting systems? How ambiguous. JKD has this thing called footwork, those other systems lack. It's not imposed, it's fundamental, and clearly beyond your meager reasoning and practical experience.

@@Wolfgath right, not imposed, not in combat but in practice. for example, side kicks, stop hits (either hands/foot) and especially intercepting, that pretty much a long range idea. isn't that the spirit of jkd, intercepting. wing chun is mostly mid range /long range. like I said range is an individual thing. some don't move, wait and focus to counter, others wait and keep their bodies in motion while others looks for their distance measure, and others measure it by continuing stepping forward to make a hit.
