@JelsmaOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
You dont need a freezer, you are curing the bait. You can either leave it in salt, lasts longer or take it out and put in a sealed bag, doesnt last as long.

Someone told me that after you salt the shrimp for 24 hrs, you can put it in a container with minced garlic overnight and use when ready to fish. This works especially well with attracting catfish. Any thoughts on how this should be done? Will the juices moisten the shrimp or would it be better to use garlic powder instead of minced?

keeping it dry is good enough. freezing is ok, but constant cycles of in and out of the freezer build up moisture and is not recommended.

Thanks but would not it still smell if not put in the freezer? Because the shrimp would deteriorate. Thanks for helping.

Does it need to be covered by lid or keep it open?
@JelsmaOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Salt is hydroscopic so it absorbs moisture at a high rate. if you leave your container open it will go bad, because the salt will collect moisture from the air. You are basically dehydrating the shrimps, or other bait. zip loc bags work well with small batches. So use a container with a tight lid.

I find salted mussels or pilchards/sardines are better. These baits let out more scent to attract fish.
@JelsmaOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Use whats avaible to your area, here we have 9 different kind of shrimp and a small variety of small squid. We dont have access to pilchards or bay sardines and the mullet only come through twice a year. We do have menhaden but they are better used live or fresh dead. As far as mussels they are not a viable option either.
