Personally I would pack the handle with lifeboat matches and a striker, wrap as much 30lb Spyderwire as possible around the handle with a Altoids tin containing a decent kit in the sheath pouch.

Very nice review. Yeah the tools included are a strange addition, but I like that there's a barrel-handled knife that seems like it won't fall apart. Between the handle and the pouch there is plenty of room to put a personalized survival kit for wilderness or urban use. I like it. Peace.

Say Heah David, Just yesterday, I bought a Vintage Bianchi Hollow Handle Knife. I do have a few Hollow Handles Knives that I would trust my life on everyone of them except that $10.00 General Hollow Handle Knife, My new Hollow Handle that fits right at home in my Hollow Handle Stable is my Bianchi Hollow Handle that was made before the Nighthawk, But they did copy it's design and it's put together solid that Fighter Pilots used to survive. Yeah, it's all brass with a 6" 440c. Blade that has a serrated Sledge, I guess to cut yourself out of the safety belts and cockpit, a simple awesomeness of a Knife design, a deadly looking spear point and a Zero Grind Saber. It just feels great in your hand, Infact as you pick it up, You can tell.

Great vid commentary. I agree about the screwdriver know idea what they are thinking. I do have a question though. It looks like a saber grind on the blade but I know schrade is a fan of hollow grinds so could you tell me if its hollow or flat? thanks

The toolkit inside the handle is so it can be a "urban survival knife" which can be altered into a "wilderness survival knife" by replacing the toolkit with a homemade one like you did David! Schrade is stepping up their game!! Also looks like an Altoids tin kit could fit in sheath pocket ;)

Reminds me of the late 80's-early 90's Chris Reeves knives I lusted after but could never afford. Kydex sheaths are easy to make so if you don't like the sheath make your own. throw a tek-lock on it, add what ever accessories you want and be done with it in an hour or so (if you take it slow). This review does not mention the utility of using this knife as a spear in survival situations. I was wondering if there is a reason for that? I like the larger size of these knives but wouldn't currently buy one because of the serrations that they seem to have deemed mandatory on those. So this one looks mighty tempting. The pricing is great, good knife steel, durable coating, and fine (un-serrated) edge all make it a winner in my book. Thank you for the review.

Okay. Perhaps this will put an end to the questions. First there was the Jimmy Lyle designed knife for the John Rambo films. It had a hollow handle and the guard ended on each side in a phillips tip and flat tip. The pommel held a fairly useless compass inside. The knife was designed for survival in any environment including urban areas. Then the Buckmaster came out. A better design knife wise because the exterior pouches could hold a compass (mine came with one) and other tools (I always kept a swiss army knife in the other pouch on my 184). There was also a sharpening stone in the sheath. This knife inspired the current designs of the M9 bayonet (blade style, sheath, pouches, sharpener). Now we have the Schrade knife. Machined from one piece of steel. So much better than the other two (bolted into the handle). It comes with it's own screw driver set because it's more likely you will need it in urban settings. Going into the woods? It comes out!

This isn't a knife, it's a work of art! Precision milled from a drop-forged billet of 1070 steel, beautiful, sharp, indestructible, functional. A copy of the Chris Reeve series of hollow-handled knives that cost 8 times more, and to my eye every bit as nicely made. I am buying the big brother SCHF2 with clip blade. They will last a lifetime.
