@@CamNicholls wondering how you find those power meter pedals. Looking at either those, garmin or preferably the new wahoo but have never used speed-play b4
@davidtyler51292 жыл бұрын
@@Malcom2345 , I’m using the Wahoo (Speedplay) Powerlink power meter pedals and in my very humble view, they’re a game changer(no I’m not being paid to say this). I don’t race any more (one time very ordinary age grouper triathlete) and I’m an old fart now, but I enjoy the data feedback from these pedals and once you get use to how you clip in and out, we’ll I’ll never go back to Look or Shimano again. Im usually clipped in from stopping at lights etc, way quicker than most of the guys I ride with and even they comment on how fast I seem to clip in or out. Also and it might just be me, but for some reason I just feel the way my foot position sits on/over the pedal/cleat is different to the traditional Look/Shimano pedal/cleat but in a ‘better’ way for me and the down pressure feels more even on the ‘ball’ of my foot. Perhaps this is all inside my head 🤪. Im sure others will see this post and totally disagree and that’s ok. In the end, we all use equipment on our bikes that work for us and we must be honest and admit we all have our ‘pet’ brands etc. Cam may see my comment and given the amount of reviews he does on different cycling gear, I’d be surprised if he hasn’t already done something (a comparo)on the Wahoo Powerlink pedals and he’ll give you a more balanced view and feedback than I. However from where I sit, I say do yourself a favour and get a set of these Powerlinks on your bike and push on 😂 Happy cycling Dave M 🚴🏼🤙

@@pmcmpc my n=1 experience is different than yours with regard to front shifting. Crisper on the new Shimano 12 speed setup. However, that’s just a sample size of 1, so take that for what it’s worth. I have had some noise issues with one of my Shimano 12 speed cassettes that I haven’t been able to sort out yet, so thus far I would say that Sram’s rear 12 speed shifting, while not as quick, gave me less issues overall. 🤷♂️

@@pmcmpc yep, the same is here: 2 bikes with SRAM AXS, some wild chain drops on both, esp. if shifting fast back and forth to find the best gear ration (with compensating shift mode enabled). Fairly speaking, I do believe to SRAM claiming all these issues are due to incorrect setup/adjustment, but I have not met any experienced bicycle technician who know how to do this job (not by cell phone app). I have the same 2021 BMC Teammachine SLR01, but in the Poison Green/Black. I have Dura-Ace Di2 and DT Swiss wheels with 28c tires on them, and I love this bike. I've owned and been through many bikes trying to find the one(s) that I want and although the BMC was not on my radar, it is one that I am keeping in my collection. I've owned the Orbea Orca Aero, Bianchi Oltre XR4, Look 695, S-Works Tarmac (SL3, SL5, SL6, SL7), BH Ultralight, and a few others but I've finally settled on the Teammachine SLR01 and the Tarmac SL7. The BMC just feels like a great all-around bike. Like you said, it's comfortable and fast. I don't see it as much of a climber, compared to my SL7, but perhaps it's just my lack of legs. The bike just surprised me in its versatility. It kind of combines the speed and handling of the Orca with the comfort and quality of the Oltre XR4. It's not the lightest or the fastest in my opinion but it does everything very well. What I don't get in the SLR01, I get in the Tarmac SL7 but with a more aggressive geometry and stiffer ride quality. For an all-around ride and if I'm going on longer rides, I'll take the BMC.

Great vid Cam. Glad to have you back and creating fantastic and relevant content again. I’m looking at the Seka Exceed (non RDC) for my next frameset. The geometry looks spot on (although I’m bang between the M and L sizes and can’t workout if a M with full stack of spacers or a L with a shorter stem would be best) but the value is outstanding. As for BMC, I’ve always had a soft spot for them, again mainly because of Cadel and how much I liked him as a person and a rider. My issue with BMC is that they seem a little overpriced for what you get and I know a few people that have had issues with them. Albeit from earlier iterations when they were using Easton carbon but it’s always stuck in my head how BMC didn’t react very well. Also, thanks to you and especially Neill and his bike fitting expertise, I’m now riding 165mm cranks with my cleats pushed all the way back (Look cleats, S-Phyre 902) and I’m currently experimenting with a set of 36cm bars (feels so much better). Neill said to check skeletal sizes in one of his videos, especially shoulder width and that’s been a revelation for me as well as the other things mentioned above.

Great review. I've got a 2021 Teammachine. Interestingly when I first got it I was slightly under whelmed. I obviously haven't ridden as many bike as you but I've had quite a few including Canyon Aeroad, Giant Propel, Giant TCR etc. Initially it didn't feel as snappy as some of the other bikes, however it had qualities that became apparent the more I rode it to a point where I really love it now and if I considered purchasing another bike, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. I think the geometry is almost perfect for an all-round race bike and it is really good at everything. It is an absolute descending weapon in my experience. I've never ridden a bike that descends as good as this one. I ride sports bikes as well so I'm used to going fast and this bike feels rock solid bombing down hills. I'll defo second the BMC 'flat rear tyre' feeling, but it does come with it's advantages. I previously had a Venge Vias Disc and the rear triangle on that thing was so absurdly stiff that you could feel the rear tyre skipping and losing traction during sprints and strong efforts if the road surface wasn't flawlessly smooth. No such issue along the same roads on the BMC.

@@CamNicholls I also have a stiff race alloy disc frame from the local custom producer which was designed for sprinters with well - stiffness in mind. The feeling is SO HARSH if you put the hammer down. You feel exactly which part of the rear wheel tire tries to not lose the traction. But to my surpise it is not too harsh for everyday riding even on bad roads and so-so surface. It must be the design and hydroforming the tubes so it is stiff when needed but not uncomfortable. 28mm tyres from Tufo greatly improved already ok comfort and it is my favourite bike even for 150+ km rides. Alloy has greatly improved over the years as the material for frames.

Cam, you're very correct about AXS front derailleur over shifting. Unadulterated crap but did you know there is a complete fix? A very clever American guy makes a chain keeper device called a Sentinel under the brand WickWerks. My wife and I have three AXS equipped bikes between us and all are running Sentinels. It's a double sided device designed for 2x cross bikes and completely eliminates the problem of over shift in both directions. Discreet look, modestly priced and worth every cent. The installed height of an AXS FD is greater than other stuff so in some cases you may need to fabricate a small dropper to lower the device deeper over the chainrings but that's a simple mod. I went through the conversations with SRAM Australia and they just didn't want to know .... their view is that everyone but them is a mechanical idiot. I know several people who have suffered the same issue and couldn't tune it out either and none of them are idiots. Enjoy the videos ... many thanks. Mick.

Great vid. I’ve checked out a few BMC’s at a local shop. Might have popped for one if they had my size. Lovely wife too congrats mate. 🚴🏻♂️⭐️

chain catchers solve the chain dropping issue. there are enough different types to suit just about any road bike, as far as I am aware.
@theothervalentin2 жыл бұрын
Chain drops are user error from my experience. I run sram force axs 2x on two bikes. Not a single drop so far. Paid a lot of attention when setting it up. Just buy a k edge chain keeper. 20€ and you will never have a dropped chain again. Take the pro version tho of the chain keeper
@dakalla2 жыл бұрын
Had the chain dropped with the keeper in place, somehow the chain got hooked again in the chainring and got stuck under the catcher and then you need to take out your tool and remove the catcher to get the chain back up. Happened two times and then i removed the catcher. It is Sram Force22 mechanical, have it setup perfectly to guide and even asked in the bike shop to have a look, but sometimes it just drops the chain when shifting down on the small ring. Never had that issues with Shimano Ultegra. Not mechanical, not di2.

Sram sucks I’m selling my red and going di2 have seen multiple guys drop their chain too. Nobody on shimano has this issue

Thanks for another in depth, interesting and informative video. My personal take on this is that the bike that looks the fastest / most aero usually is, and in this case the Seka has the slight advantage, at least in the aero department.

I love my Team Machine (a 2013 SLR02), but find the saddle painful. What saddle do you have on your Team Machine?
@CamNicholls2 жыл бұрын
My preferred saddle is the Specialized Toupe. They don't make them anymore

Doesn’t the data in your test show that the average watts were consistently lower on the upgraded BMC while producing very close to the same speeds as the Saeka? That would make the BMC faster in cases where km/h are the same but you used fewer watts, no?
@madmonkeycycling90982 жыл бұрын
Had a 2014 SLR01. 6kg with SRAM red22; dreammachine. Unfortunately got scrapped by being hit by a car. My dealings with BMC customer service have been sub par, which has me going off mainstream Brands but I do miss the BMC everyday

Sorry to hear about that, I certainly appreciate the impact a poor service experience can have. Thanks for sharing on the thread.

I still don't understand why everyone thinks SRAM runs a flawless drivetrain. And I also have to wonder if your speed test results would be any different with a different system. Any of them.

How tall are you fella? And what size is this bike?

Wait till you go to Switzerland and you’ll understand why the bike is the way it is, and also why no one has every reached out. The country is clean, functional, efficient, beautiful, safe but expensive and lacking in soul and emotion.

Interesting video Cam. Out of interest, how do you find the Selle Italia SLR compared to the Toupe or the SMP you were using, as the cut out on the SLR is smaller, and the overall saddle narrower than both of the others?
@CamNicholls2 жыл бұрын
It’s the closest I’ve come to the Toupe (in terms of feel / riding comfort) since they stopped making them. 😢 Way different to the smps
@lejeon74272 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your detailed review, sir. Im considering BMC teammachine for comfy ride or daily routine such as communication. Seriously, as a rider aero is important but comfort is REALLY crucial when we ride quite decent distance more than 100km. It is literally a fight against a fatigue. BTW, CAN U GIVE ME A NAME OF THE WOODEN BIKE RACK BEHIND? THAT LOOKS GORGEOUS AND WANNA BUY IT 😍

Intersting video, I like the effort to do some real tests. I like the mix of 'cold data', the 'ride feeling' and a bit of 'love' for the brand (I feel the same but for Cannondale !). Good and honest review Cam ! Thank you 👏

I would say 2024 versions most likely. It's normally a three years cycle, sometimes four.
